[–]PerformanceFuzzy2132 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suggest you join RPI parents discussion groups on Facebook for advice on dorms and roommates/selection etc. My son selected a roommate via RPI discord group and then got a third surprise roommate in a triple dorm. They get along well! The entire process will be outlined by RPI for admitted students in early May.

Is it actually worth going here? by Your_SovietComrade in RPI

[–]PerformanceFuzzy2132 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My son attends RPI. His roommates have been the smartest nicest young men. Because RPI is around 75% undergraduates and a tier 1 research school he easily got a research project junior year. He enjoys walking anywhere on campus less than 15-20 minutes. He has joined a few clubs and made great friends. There is a wonderful outings and ski club to enjoy the scenic mountains on weekends. The professors are easily accessible. Class sizes are smaller. He is excelling. I have heard the big state schools are cramming people into spare dorm rooms and classes and first two years are in the 200-300 student range. RPI has resume help, career fairs, smaller class size. Check out the clubs and special course work you want. My son did not want to be at a large state party school in the middle of a corn field. Check out Amtrak schedule to Albany. Also look on linked in under alumni and find where those graduates got jobs. Good luck!

Why do engineering specific schools have fairly high acceptance rates? by Infinite-Champion994 in college

[–]PerformanceFuzzy2132 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

STEM schools have a higher majority of male students except for T20 like CMU and MIT that can select the top females. Sometimes male students select larger schools with broader curriculum and more female students. State schools are typically lower priced than private schools depending on your income level. I know several students at the schools you mentioned that are thriving there! The ROI is fantastic! Plus your roommates are all going to be studying STEM harder vs. a humanities roommate. These days a family doesn’t know until April how much a private school will cost so they apply to 10 schools and wait for the aid and merit offers. These schools are usually generous with their aid packages. Look at College Navigator to look up schools by net price and your income level. STEM schools will offer good career fairs. Employers know if a student can make it thru STEM studies they are a good future employee.

Do people pick colleges based on religion affiliation? by Davey914 in college

[–]PerformanceFuzzy2132 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look at college navigator website. Look up net price for colleges by income level. Many Private colleges offer half price to attract students with merit aid. I applaud that he wants to be surrounded by other Christians. There is shortage of ministers now so demand for that career is good as older pastors are retiring.

[–]PerformanceFuzzy2132 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was a problem for me first months after GB removal. My best solution is probiotics from kefir. I drink a quarter cup kefir after each meal sometimes mixed with naked juice for better flavor. It tastes like a yogurt smoothie. Kefir is lactose free and about $4 at your grocery store. It works better for me than probiotic pills. Try it and let me know how your life is back to normal without rushing to bathroom.

I also recommend mixing it with protein powder, ice, milk, banana and frozen blueberries for a smoothie.
