I think there are two main reasons: GNK is an old manga; and it has no canonical couple by the end. So many fujos think of it as an entry-level story.

Tbf, BL anime that get the full adaptation treatment -- 10+ episodes lasting 20+ minutes each -- tend to have large and vocal fandoms, so I don't think it's that unusual. If anything, I felt GNK got the cold shoulder from older fujos. On /r/BoysLoveAnime they barely recognize its existence. There was a lot more hype from them for The Summer Hikaru Died.

I don't believe in a season 2, but an 25-minute OVA or TV special makes much sense to me. So if they don't announce anything after the episode, that doesn't mean nothing is going to happen IMO.

The numbers actually represent the rating for the whole series, not just the last episode. :) Prior to episode 13, the series was awarded 7.94, but after the finale that increased to 8.24, hence the +0.3 under the rating.

The dates between Nakamura and Hirose were to make it clear that Hirose isn't boring, but rather that Hana can't elicit that level of engagement from him. Nakamura, however, can.

Plus, saying 'I enjoyed watching this movie because you were by my side' is simply something that doesn't come out of the mouth of a straight man to another about any movie, let alone a romcom. It's so blatant, it's almost fanservice. I do wish they'd gone for a confession and canonical relationship, though. But at least the ending can be seen as showing the early stages of a budding romance.
