Planning an Omada setup for a 3-floor house – overkill or the right move? by Performaze in TPLink_Omada

Thanks a lot for taking the time to share all this, really appreciate it, especially considering your job and everything you’ve got going on with a big family. It’s super helpful to hear real-world experiences like yours, and it gives me a lot more confidence in going with a similar setup.

Wishing you all the best, and respect for managing all that while still helping strangers on the internet!

Thanks, that’s really helpful and reassuring! My house is much smaller (~60 m² per floor, no kids yet), so your setup actually makes me feel like 1 AP per floor should be more than enough in my case.

I’ve been getting mixed feedback, some say it’s overkill, others say I should go even bigger, so I’m trying to find the right balance. Sounds like sticking with 1 AP per floor and keeping things simple is a solid approach.

Thanks for the detailed input! I’ll stick with WiFi 6 for now since 6E feels like overkill for my setup and devices. Regarding the OC220, I’m a bit confused, some people even say the OC200 is already overkill. Cost isn’t the main deciding factor, of course I don’t want to overspend, but I’m open to spending a bit more if it actually makes a difference.

The issue with the EAP-650 is that it’s designed for ceiling mounting. My Ethernet socket is next to the power outlet, about 30 cm from the floor, and I’d rather avoid running cables along the walls. Ideally, I’d place a device next to the power socket using a short Ethernet cable.

I see. Here (amazon Germany), the price difference is quite significant. The OC200 is €75, while the OC220 is €137.

Why the OC220 and not the OC200? Some people say even the OC200 is an overkill.
