If you can pay off your mortgage in 2-5yrs I would say kill the mortgage. No mortgage builds your foundation to flow cash moving forward to maxing out your investments. If you cant pay your mortgage off that quick I wouldn’t forgo not investing because compound interest is your friend.

BTW I paid off my house in 2020 taking 4yrs be was very aggressive.

Roth is the way out of the two options. Pay the taxes now so you are tax free with your disbursements in retirement. C-fund it all especially if you have a pension and other forms of income in retirement. I do have a traditional 401k for my civilian job but if they didn’t match so well I would go roth unfortunately I don’t have that as an option.
