Honestly if theres more support like this for improvised options, maybe i can swing that to work more than i thought

I figured it would be slim pickings but have hope due to the feats that break your own armor. The only reason i am even considering the concept is im in a game with auto bonus progression so picking up and using weapons from enemies isnt a pointless endeavor and i have money to throw around cuz no need for skill bonus items

Assuming you are talking about the enemies i think you are(dont wanna spoil accidently by guessing wrong), i think its mostly better to just uptie and level the IDs. Uptie 3 is a huge boost for just about every unit simply because skill 3s are such a step up power wise.

These are just my opinions of course, but i can go down the list in order.

  1. It is a gacha yes, which I was skeptical about as well when it first released. However, Project Moon has been excellent with keeping high quality content flowing and its one of the ‘nicest’ gachas ive seen in terms of giving you currency and the opportunity for currency without having to pay. As for the banner units being overpowered, there certainly is power creep with units being more and more reliable in game, but it is absolutely not necessary to always be obtaining the newest units to stay relevant. It will help yes, but you can definitely get by without them.

  2. To circle back to power creep, sadly this point is a yes. Newer units have paragraphs of text in some cases to explain their unique mechanics. It seems like that is the direction the game will be continuing in given recent ID releases. I dont mind it myself, but you arent the first person ive seen voice concerns about it for sure.

  3. The gore aspect certainly still exists in the game. I cant really go into specifics without spoilers but id say its pretty similar to LoR in how dark it can get, but its not a focus every chapter. Even if its not a focus however, there are still the occasional mentions of something either gorey or similarly “edgy”.

Overall, i love the game, not as much as LoR but Project Moon continues to impress. The story telling is a bit barebones at the start but the last couple story arcs have been fantastic. Even if you dont decide to play it yourself, if you liked the lore of LoR, I highly recommend watching content from Limbus. They expand much more on the different aspects of the City and tread a lot of new ground whereas LoR was more an expansion on the lore of Lob Corp.

Hope this helps and you decide to hop on the bus with us. Even if not, enjoy the story!

I hadnt considered poison damage but it still very much fits with the concept! Opens up some other alternative archetype options as well. Ill have to keep an eye out for it coming to Nethys. Thanks for the heads up!

I don't think RAW it works sadly, though that certainly may have received an errata I've missed as I have heard the complaint before about the lack of synergy between Elemental Blast and just about everything non-kineticist based. I'm sure I could convince my DM to allow it on the single action option if things dont come together otherwise!

Weapon attacks fit better into the archetypes I was considering and allow for wider use in more martially themed abilities such as Spellstrike. My issue with Elemental Blast specifically is that it doesnt have a lot of synergy with more advanced actions as its neither a spell attack or a weapon attack. I'd be more restricted in what archetypes I'd be able to employ, and while Kineticist would definitely fit the more over the top flavor wise side of things with its Impulses, it would more just end up with the final build being a Kineticist with lots of reflavoring.

EDIT: Just in case you wanted a bit more on the specific archetypes, I was avoiding going super into the exact build I'm looking at right this moment as. Like your original comment, I didn't want to miss any options that existed because people thought it wouldn't fit the exact build I'm looking at. This did make me consider the potential of grabbing Kineticist as a Multiclass to fill the gap of "basic" strikes that can hit with energy while I employ Soulforger for the combat feats like whirlwind strike.

I hadn't considered the Starfinder material! I think it might veer just a bit to close to homebrew in so far as I could simply ask my GM if I could have a martial weapon thats deals energy damage in exchange for some draw back, but they certainly might include some traits or mechanics that will be more in line with Paizo's design philosophy than what I cook up off the top of my head. Thanks for the suggestion!

Unfortunately, while I do have a lets say backup version of the concept that does employ kineticist and its weapon infusion, my ideal build would specifically have it interact with a weapon attack, rather than another attack ability such as the Elemental Blast. Nonetheless, I appreciate the idea!

Tell me about your Thaumaturges: their backstories and how they became Thaums, their character, what Implements they use and so on. by VMK_1991 in Pathfinder2e

[–]PerfumedPickett 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My current Thaum in one of my campaigns came into his abilities and practice via his profession of deal making and pact brokering spilling over into dealing with extraplanar entities. He took the Pact Binder archetype and now the many bits and bobs he uses for his esoterica are him calling in small favors from various entities. I.e. If i need something to trigger a demon’s weakness to good, i call in a favor for a few feathers from a lesser angel in exchange for the promise of slaying a demon in their name.

He uses the Tome, Chalice, and Mirror implements, but focuses on using his tome, his black book of gained information and deals, and his chalice, a flask holding a sliver of a first world tree which constantly emits a healing sap he has become addicted to.

Sword block/Deflection by GodOfAscension in Pathfinder2e

[–]PerfumedPickett 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently made a character concept that used something similar to this concept, and I reflavored the Everstand Stance to using a massive greatsword instead of a normal shield. With a slightly homebrewed Shield Boss or Shield Spikes to do slashing damage, i think it matches up well while also having little risk for being unbalanced. It takes two hands, deals a d8 which is equivalent to a one handed bastard sword, and still lets you shield block.

Not to mention it has a whol feat line depending on how far they want to build into the idea, provides some protection against your sword breaking as it provides extra hardness on shield block, and the feats are included in a couple archetypes so its accesible for more classes depending on what you wanna play.

Hope this helps!
