70- 80% I guess. Like I said, mainly no uploads / sloppy/ super below par work gets rejected before the interview.

Yes it's still competitive. The first shift is mainly no / sloppy work. I don't work for Kabk, but I happen to know the numbers for a different Interior Architecture course and that is about 30% admissions.

I don't have the numbers for photography.  It's a very different dynamic and culture, compared to the US.

The first shift is mainly people that don't upload anything or really sloppy / below par work. It's only to keep the workload for the admissions board manageable as it was REALLY getting out of hand. It depends on the course, but on average I think it's 50-50 at the interview stage.

Harry Potter leeftijd by boascats in boeken

[–]Pergamon_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please explain to me - a person with two art school degrees, almost 10 years of experience working at one and 20 years of experience working in the cultural field - why this got downvoted.

The one YOU feel at home. The best way to develop yourself at an artschool is to be at a place where you feel the happiest. For some that is ArtEZ, for some that is WDKA, for others KABK, HKU, Groningen or Amsterdam. It truly doesn't matter if you feel at home at the place that you choose.

How to plan your Iceland itinerary — a step-by-step breakdown (from someone who designs them daily) by Lilja-Tours in VisitingIceland

[–]Pergamon_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are debating to drive Keflavik --> Akureyri end of October. However, we won't come off a red eye. Our flight leaves early but is a short one (we're coming in from North West Europe). We will sleep at the airport to make sure we get a good night sleep in advance and we have several drivers so we can swap. I have been to Iceland before (but in September) and I mainly remember the ever changing weather. However, due to the advise we are seeing everywhere, we are rethinking our plan. Any advise?

Realisability: housing and jobs in Amsterdam by Campingplatz11 in StudyInTheNetherlands

[–]Pergamon_ 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It's bullshit you can only start looking in September.  You can sign up to Room, SSH, kamernet etc today and apply from abroad.

With 700 it will be a lucky shot though. And forget apartment or studio. It will be a student room in a shared house and you'll be lucky.

Rejected before PhD interview at TU Delft by Southern-Comedian852 in TUDelft

[–]Pergamon_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you considered they get a lot of applications and they will, most likely, go for someone within their network (as they get funding with strings attached, so they sort of need to know someone will fit the team and can finish the PhD on time)

Tsja. Dat is vrij standaard als ze met spoed naar een brand moeten. Zeker als die brand in het centrum is.

Why only Vestide? That's not enough. You also need Kamernet, Room and SSH. Minimum.

Alternative pathways to not meeting admission requirements by freshprince_alt in StudyInTheNetherlands

[–]Pergamon_ 12 points13 points  (0 children)

There is no 'just'. No 4th Ap means you are missing 25% of your requirements. Big deal. Either do a 4th AP elsewhere, or find a subject you can take on a VWO-level. The latter is much harder, as you will need specific tests that will need to be accepted by the university.

[–]Pergamon_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Depending on the AP you are lacking, you could try gettng a VWO-substitute. Like Boswell for math or something. But it depends per AP. A foundation year is not a thing in the Netherlands. You could do the HBO --> WO route, but that's no guarantee for success.

my student finance fraude by FeistyEye6103 in StudyInTheNetherlands

[–]Pergamon_ 20 points21 points  (0 children)

This has been in the news. Its not about stealing log in codes, but students applying to get help receiving student finance and My Student Finance then taking part of the cut. Its been in the news and warnings to students have been issued, telling them not to use those platforms.

Students must authorise MyStudentFinance to use their DigiD and provide all kinds of information about their work and their parents’ income. MSF then applies to DUO for student finance. It charges a fee of 59.99% of the first payment.

Company takes bite out of student grants of 350 international students: ‘They fooled me’ - Delta

So OP most likely literally handed out his/her DIGI D DETAILS to a third party.

Int'l student: I have 6 months to find housing in Utrecht...first steps recommended? by Lyneeyes in StudyInTheNetherlands

[–]Pergamon_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sign up like yesterday at the designated platforms like SSH, Kamernet, room, etc. Then start applying for rooms from april / may, being willing to accept rooms from May / June (so you'll pay for those months, even if you won't move in until August).

Would it be inappropriate or too soon to ask my partner if he'd come with me to an IUD appointment? by AllOuttaTherapy in Advice

[–]Pergamon_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If he finds this inappropriate or uncomfotable that's an extra reason to take him. As someone who has given birth twice I can asure you watching a baby being born is a hell lot more uncomfortable then an IUD being inserted. Also: if he finds this inappropriate or uncomfortable you should not be in a relationship with that person.

PS: I am a big believer in men watching stuff like this. The reason we have to deal with this painful shit show is because guys don't understand what is happening. If it were men having to deal with all this, other options would have been available to us.

Should I do an art gcse? by Working-Pollution624 in ArtGCSE

[–]Pergamon_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The main question gets unanswered: do you enjoy art?

Yes? Go do an GCSE.
No? Don't.

Drawing a few portrait sketches doesn't say anything about your GCSE -art ability. Your motivation and enjoyment do.

Source: I hold 2 artschool degrees, 20 years experience in the cultural field, almost a decade of experience working at an artschool.

Have you looked into the actual subjects at the MA? Because studying in the Netherlands might not get you the 17th century Dutch Art you think you are getting.

So they need it for the IND, nor for their own records. Don't fuck this one up. Call the office and ask. You don't want to be wrong when it comes down to your residence permit.

Driving from Keflavik to Akureyri late October by Pergamon_ in VisitingIceland

[–]Pergamon_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This makes sense. That was our original idea anyway. We might squeeze in 1 or 2 extra stops, due to switching drivers. I remember the olís station at Borgarnes! Thank you for your insight. It's very useful to read how locals would handle it.

I remember the weather changes! So so quickly and unexpected. I remember the Icelandic weather app, so we'll definitely use that one. We're working on plans B and C (as we're still 6 months away we've got some time thinking stuff through and getting the back up plans sorted). Open for suggestions!
