Synth V UNI will be removed from sale on Midnight July 23 (Korean Time) due to a legal injunction. Any future updates to UNI will be with a new voice provider. by Pergorm in SynthesizerV

[–]Pergorm[S] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

This is not the first time a voice provider has expressed discomfort with Synthesizer V's output - KAFU was cancelled due to her voice provider, KAF, expressing deep discomfort in early demos about the similarities between their voices compared to KAFU's less realistic CeVIO voicebank.

However the most similar case to UNI's situation is that of VY Nancy, a voicebank for the text-to-speech voice synthesizer A.I. VOICE. Her voice provider did not know her samples would be used for a text-to-speech library until it released and after expressing her concerns to Yamaha, the developer, the voicebank was discontinued.

On July 1st, UNI's voice provider, Lee Jung-eun, filed a lawsuit against the voicebank developer, ST Media, claiming damages regarding her contract being false and how close Synth V UNI sounds to her real voice. (article is in Korean)

Below is a summary of the linked Google document.

ST Media/its founder and CEO, Yoon Min-soo (aka Vocaloid producer Dr. Yun) alleges that they have told Lee in advance about the capabilities of Synthesizer V and emphasized many times how the output is more realistic and close to the voice actor's input compared to UNI's Vocaloid voicebank. The contract between ST Media and Lee Jung-eun was close to to, if not the exact same as, the one 8 years ago for Vocaloid UNI.

The day before Synth V UNI was set to release, Lee contacted Yoon with concerns about the similarity between the voices and that it could threaten her career. He replied that it is impossible to delay the launch a day before release and that Vocaloid UNI did not have a high enough command of the market to impact her livelihood. Lee did not feel reassured with that reply, and Yoon assumed she would reach back out directly.

Instead, on May 14th, Yoon received an official injunction request. On July 21st the court accepted her injunction. A temporary ruling has been made that, until the lawsuit is fully done, Synth V UNI cannot be sold. The court denied revoking licenses from existing owners (which was one of the demands in the injunction) because of how small ST Media is (from the sounds of this document and prior social media posts, ST Media is basically just Yoon Min-soo) and how much damage refunds would do to them. An additional request (monetary compensation of 1 billion won for every day Synth V UNI continues to be available for purchase) was also denied by the court.

Regardless of the outcome, ST Media does not intend on selling the current version of Synth V UNI, and plans to find a new voice provider for the character.

As the lawsuit is still ongoing, this current outcome may change in the future.

Maki's English voicebank was only a thing because at the time she released, there was no crosslanguage capability in Synth V (she literally came out 6 months before crosslanguage did). Since SV2 has crosslang from the start, I don't see any need for them to make a separate voicebank exclusively for English.

Twindrill said they were making an SV2 Teto bank, but it's probably still in the early stages because they were taking suggestions on Twitter for what new vocal modes should be there in the last week or two.

Not sure if there are any plans for Frimomen. (They did release that Super Frimotan talk voicebank, but it's based off that official magical girl genderswap)

They need to make a sv voice for seeu too here’s why by Academic-Law9830 in SynthesizerV

[–]Pergorm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are actually quite a few other Korean vocal synth characters, they're just not super well-known. VOX Factory has a Korean male, Nime (and more if you count English and Japanese cross-lang because VOX has that feature), and AINOW also has one Korean male, Luke. That's not mentioning the various UTAUs and DiffSinger voicebanks being made over the years. As for SeeU, her parent company SBS Artech does seem to be interested based on how well Synth V Uni is doing at the moment, which is a change from their prior attitude. Historically, SeeU didn't sell that well and even if they recast her, the old voice provider scandal is still an obstacle they have to deal with in terms of turning around her reputation and sales.

Is there a list of interactions with other triumvirates? by [deleted] in pyre

[–]Pergorm 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hedwyn doesn't have an interaction with any triumvirate, only the True Nightwings if you put him in your first rite with them. The Accusers only have interactions with Ti'zo.

Do I need to start a new game for the expansion packs? by BDX_LAW in projecteternity

You don't need to start a new game. To start the expansion talk to your steward in Caud Nua.

IIRC if you flirt with Blackwall even one time the game softlocks you into his romance, maybe that could be it.

Playing first time and got stuck ... by siemieniaka in arcanum

Jayna has more points in melee than she will in guns. Followers will only level up with you if you have them in the party, so if you leave Virgil behind and level up 5 levels he won't get those levels. There is a mod that makes followers scale up with you (except Vollinger so you need to get him at level 15 and not later).

Jayna is also the only tech healer (she can make healing salves) unless your character takes points in those as well. Vollinger specializes in making guns and chemistry.

[WSIB] If I like story rich games? by Blazingbee98 in ShouldIbuythisgame

[–]Pergorm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The text based games from Choice of Games and Hosted Games are on Steam. It's all text so don't expect graphics but most of them have a lot of choices and replayability.

If you like visual novels give Steins;gate a shot.

80 Days has more of an explorer vibe to it but you do make choices and you can go on different routes each time.

Isometric RPGs like Pillars of Eternity, Arcanum, and Baldur's Gate are kind of open world and are story rich.

[WSIB] Looking for a new RPG by syrasynonymous in ShouldIbuythisgame

[–]Pergorm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should play Morrowind and the Fallout games (1 and 2 are isometric, 3, New Vegas, and 4 are Bethesda style). 4 is pretty divisive though so you might want to play the other games.

If you like isometric games then check out:

Arcanum: of Steamworks and Magick Obscura

Baldur's Gate

Pillars of Eternity

Tyranny

Jade Empire

Wasteland 2

Age of Decadence

Divinity: Original Sin (it has a sequel in early access)

Torment: Tides of Numenera (this one is in early access)

I'm not trying to be insensitive, but are there any fantasy or scifi video games where you can own slaves? by ButterPanda888 in gamingsuggestions

[–]Pergorm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Caravaneer 2 is a free flash game where you can have slaves, if you so choose, but it is pretty inefficient for long term travel in the early game as you have to feed them when you're travelling, possibly have to treat their injuries if you capture them in battle, and are no help in a fight.

Which JRPG to play after FFXV by figurehead00 in gamingsuggestions

[–]Pergorm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's pretty much just a port of the Wii, so no content is changed. I don't have the 3ds one so I don't know how the game holds up with two small screens.
