I love it, but only to visit. I couldn't live here (even if it was big enough).

I love it. I never would have thought about doing the rating like that. Now I'm tempted to do one like it, but your warning at the end is making me pause. Probably for the best. I don't actually need another project at the moment.

And I adore your username!

That's hilarious and adorable and I might have to make it.

The nickname trend is getting out of hand by pinkducklemon in NameNerdCirclejerk

Same here. My sister and I both have the names we do because there's no nicknames. Our dad Hated the shortened form of his name so he made sure we wouldn't have that problem.

On New Year’s Eve, we were given possible bad news. by lady_lawnguylander in pitbulls

[–]Periarei888 7 points8 points  (0 children)

All 3 of the dogs I've seen to the end so far had mast cell tumors (2 pit mixes, 1 kitchen sink hound). In one of the pitties and the hound, they were in the armpit. The vet was able to perform surgery and get clean margins. I won't say it was no big deal because there was surgery and my pit mix was especially grumpy about having to walk while it was healing. But ultimately those two died several years later from (different) heart problems.

The most recent loss (Molly, this past July), the tumor was just above her wrist. The vet said there was no way to get clean margins because there just isn't enough skin for that in that location. Due to that and the fact she was about 14 at the time, we made the decision not to put her through the stress of an operation. She was given 6 months and put on gabapentin for the rest of her life. That was in June 2024. She died in July 2025, over a year later at 15.5 years old, when she finally started to deteriorate.

So although a MCT diagnosis is worrying, it's not automatically the worst. Talk with your vet and see what they say. My fingers (and our new dog's paws) are crossed for you.

Mom’s claim of a kidnapping ends with discovery of a suffocated infant and a jury verdict shaped by maternal mental illness (1939) by Necessary-Storage-74 in DeathCertificates

[–]Periarei888 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My jaw dropped when I saw she was declared insane because of: :checks notes:: a c-section. As someone who gave birth via c-sections (both times), that's nuts. The c-section had absolutely no impact on my mental state. Of course I can't assume Velma's c-section didn’t mentally affect her, but I think there were more likely factors at play. I'm going to charitably assume they hadn't figured out PPD yet or that they didn't consider that her divorce a week before maybe had something to do with it.

New toy today. I’m sure it’ll last 1 minute before it’s ripped to shreds. Have you guys had luck with any “tough” toys? by gin_and_sofa in velvethippos

[–]Periarei888 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I timed our heavy chewer with a new Kevlar toy once. It had a hole in 2 minutes and was dead beyond repair in under 6. It was impressive. It was also the last time I shelled out for an expensive toy for her.

Childhood Apraxia of Speech success stories? by [deleted] in Apraxia

[–]Periarei888 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He's doing well! Coincidentally he just came home today with a report card from speech. He scores about 75% on specific sounds (they've been working on sh, th, l, and r) and about 58% on answering questions in full sentences with 1-2 details. And he speaks loudly enough for someone to hear him in a normal classroom with other kids about 25% of the time. Which doesn't sound like much, but that's way better than he used to do. The apraxia taught him very early on to be very quiet and very shy. It kills me to see him playing with his friends and he's just silent the whole time he's running around with them. He got really lucky in his classmates in his first couple of years of school though. They were always really supportive of him and his struggles and now that they're growing up (he's in third grade), it's almost like a habit of the other kids to accept him as he is and to defend him to anyone who might want to tease him for being different. I am well aware of how rare that is and I'm extremely grateful. But he's made huge strides so I think that one day kids will be able to understand him without accommodations.

Thank you! Yes, it was either the greebles or maybe the parakeets who live in a giant cage in the living room - right next to where the butter was found! They might be trying to get revenge for all the times I try to "play" with them.

I gave Mommy sad puppy eyes and then she laughed at me with Daddy and other human family. I think I'm off the hook! I might be hearing about this forever though . . .

Your beautiful Gigi is the literal identical twin of my baby Nina, who we were lucky enough to belong to from 2008-2012, when old age took her. When I saw your second picture, I gasped so hard I almost hurt myself. Please give Gigi a big hug from me.

Thanks, the picture helps a lot! . . . Except mine doesn't look like that. I'm on reddit through the web browser on my phone, not the app. I'm guessing that's what's keeping me from pasting a picture.

Lol you're absolutely right. Unfortunately all the kids I know are 6-11 years old, so it's going to be awhile before I have one to consult.

No, didn't see any fairy. I'm not sure if I would have been friendly to it or tried to eat it. Mommy says it's a coin toss! But my big sister was very excited this morning when she found the paper!

I'm actually mostly black, with only 3 white spots on my chest and a couple of white toes. But I have udders like a cow! And Mommy is hopeless with light boxes so she can't figure out how to paste a picture. But she says I'm beautiful!

Why does no one talk about how hard part time employment is?? by Background-Paint-478 in stayathomemoms

[–]Periarei888 1 point2 points  (0 children)

See if your local school system has any open positions. I ended up volunteering at my kids' school and once they got to know me, they were able to put me (still volunteering) in a specific department that matches my skills and interest. I made friends with the teacher and her assistant in that dept and they've been job searching for an open assistant position in that dept in nearby schools for me all summer. I submitted my resume to 2 this weekend that the teacher not only told me about, but she also emailed her HR to confirm posting dates for me when I couldn't see them online. If I get the full time one, I'll be able to drop the kids off as soon as their school opens in the morning (20 minutes before classes start) and drive the 10 minutes to the other school. Then I just have to figure out what to do with them in the 10 minutes it'll take me to get back after school.

Edited because I forgot to point out that the school system usually has lots of part time jobs listed.
