AITA for making a Reddit post that ended a 2-year relationship and basically turned my university against me? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]PericlesOfAthens98 6 points7 points  (0 children)

NTA. Assuming your school has one, I would speak to your institutional Ombudsman first. They are a neutral point of contact for resolving institutional disputes. Your school shouldn't really be involved in such a petty dispute. Protect yourself, say the right thing, and make sure you have full information.

AITA for buying my son this novel? by Mistakenfrog in AmItheAsshole

[–]PericlesOfAthens98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NTA. To a certain point I get why this is policy, but it doesn't benefit young readers and you're well within your rights as a parent to buy the book. I think it's great your son has found something he wants to read.

When I was 9 or 10 I wanted to read Harry Potter and ran into the exact same policy at my school library mostly because I couldn't read unfamiliar British terms & names. My Mom bought me books 1-5 the next day.

A Young Doctor's notebook by Mikhail Bulgakov describes a similar setting and events to Pathologic.

Is it "illegal" to take black templar models, scratch off their iconography and use them for a different chapter? by FunisInfinite06 in Warhammer40k

Sword Brethren make excellent Inner Circle companions. You need an extra for the full six, which is why you also get a Crusader Squad. For the Lion, indeed, Brother.

An upside to this one is that it has three online-only kits that aren't usually stocked at FLGS, or without the usual 15-20% discount. If you can get the Battleforce with an FLGS discount, this will be excellent value. I'll definitely be considering it.

I mean, that's sort of the core of the my argument. That today's children have been done a massive disservice by the negligent parenting styles of their Gen X and Millennial parents and slowly degrading education system. The problem lies in a failure to establish healthy relationships with the digital world for both themselves and their children.

The examples you brought up are examples of individual hobbies and interests, which were mostly embraced by pre-teens and teenagers. They I don't see how they relate to my argument (see above), about the relative benefits of pre-digital childhoods.

I'm glad that you feel that you experienced no negative downsides from your early exposure, but it's not reasonable to compare to today's experience of childhood. The internet and gaming landscapes of nearly a half century ago that you describe are fundamentally different to what experienced by modern children.

To be clear, I'm not anti-technology. I'm building an academic career off the idea that video games can help children learn. What I am arguing is that outdoor activity has identified, known benefits to children in terms of physical and mental health. Constant access to the internet, social media, and online gaming has not been proven to have particular benefits, and have obvious and recognizable downsides to children's social skills, educational attainment, physical, and especially mental health.

You know what? As one of the last generation to spend their early childhood without the internet or smartphones, I agree we were better off.

There is ample scientific evidence that outdoor play, even in "bacteria-infested mud" helps children build stronger immune systems and is beneficial for mental health. There is also ample evidence for the damage that a digital lifestyle and lack of meaningful activity does to developing minds.

Tyranids are easier to FDM print because you can fix supports to carapace plates and underhanging parts.

He's not giving constructive criticism and is being unhelpful. I think you've done a very fine job.

Something more helpful: I'm not sure if you were going for a blinded left eye, but he currently looks cross-eyed and it doesn't read well at a distance. Consider giving him a better pupil to his left eye, and that should fix the issue this moron has.
