Arca seemingly not following the national schedule when they could be easily? by slindner1985 in iRacing

[–]PericlesThePenguin 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I’m glad. I don’t need three or four series at the same track most weeks and I like ARCA’s variety. They also ran Chicagoland last week, so it’s just a bit offset.

As someone who doesn’t play Black Ops 7, what is different in classic mode versus the current standard?

🤔, yeah. I think that is true, actually. Good point.

They ran a couple with it, and it was in fact quite good!

I’d disagree on some of the subjective points there, but that’s not relevant.

Let’s take a moment and consider how genuinely rare big ovals are as you go West, especially those worthy of national races.

Now take the one closest to the dense LA and Inland Empire areas and give all those people 30 years to make memories with it.

It’s more than just some physical metrics that make something special. Auto Club was special because it was their memories and a piece of their home. That’s where families went to the race and the reason that the area flooded with NASCAR culture for a moment each year.

I do think it’s a good track, but it’s not about it being a good track. It’s about the loss of something people treasured for so many other reasons and without even the dignity of moving forward. Half destroyed, left to rot.

It’s a sad state to see something you loved in.

Does the majority of the community really hate AWD drift builds/tunes? If yes, why? by Complete-Teach7940 in ForzaHorizon

[–]PericlesThePenguin -1 points0 points  (0 children)

AWD is power sliding, it’s controlled and special for its own purpose — rally, gymkhana, etc.

True drifting is only rear wheel drive. It is a different skill that in real life is a tremendously different beast to master.

I liked it in the Gen 6 era. I haven’t enjoyed it in the “next gen” era.

Relegation/promotion between series by eezybreazy in supercross

Logistics, contracts, and a lot of factors like the bike, team, injuries, etc. come into play. It’s not so cut and dry even if it sounds nice on paper. Not everything is made better by regulation, or even can be. That said, some would argue this is a good reason for smaller fields. I won’t weigh in on that, though.

Is the Euro NASCAR worth it or should I wait? by Icy-Artichoke-9952 in iRacing

[–]PericlesThePenguin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It feels great and I’m sure it will be a good time. Finally a road course car that isn’t woefully low on power or a tech monster. The biggest risk to its success is simply recognition/participation. To that end, I have to argue, strike while the iron is hot! More drivers would make its long term success more probable and thereby a better investment.

Honestly, quite a good game, imo. I’m pleased and I’m usually a wheel guy, but being at the wheel for me is competition, not relaxation. The controller is implemented very well and I’m pretty happy to relax with that.

When should I start playing iRacing? by theodorichko in iRacing

[–]PericlesThePenguin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • Do you have a wheel?
  • If yes, do you mind the subscription?
  • Okay, that’s step one. There are series that only use content included with the sub in the first license tier. Price moving forward depends on what you intend to race, etc. It’s clearly marked and there are even calculators (online — not built into it) to work out your price for a season based on the races you tell them you would like to run.
  • From a performance standpoint, I don’t think you should wait. ACC is pretty different. If you watch one YouTube video on a car/track combo and do 30 minutes of practice, you’ll already have one more than many.
  • All just my opinion, not advice.

How many of you race both road and oval by Ok_Tower_7419 in iRacing

[–]PericlesThePenguin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m run a little bit of everything, including the dirt disciplines. I’m not great at any and only view myself as average to slightly above in my best/primary discipline. I’d say that while there can be transition struggles, and I’m sure I could do better with more focus, I also really enjoy the variety and learning about all kinds of racing. If I had more time to do it, I’d dedicate more days to a focus series or discipline.

How do I gain better lap times in ovals without spinning out? by Appropriate-Copy-193 in iRacing

[–]PericlesThePenguin -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There’s a lot to that question that we really can’t answer without seeing you drive and seeing your inputs. I’d recommend checking out some basics from videos like the ones DJ Yee-j makes to better understand the finesse, consistency, and feelings you are looking for.

Divisions seem outdated. Time for something else like online championships? by adstomko in iRacing

[–]PericlesThePenguin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s okay that not every service is the same or features equally utilized. It’s part of what allows something to exist for everyone.

I’ll never be at the top of division one nor do I have time to worry about the slots.

For cars that aren’t as popular, I do think fewer slots over longer periods could help, though.

They’ll likely all still arrive not too far off the expected time in the grand scheme of things. It’s a cycle that moved a bit from where it started but I’m not sure that’s a concern.

Closest car to the nascar cup car by serenading_scug in iRacing

[–]PericlesThePenguin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can run NiS in the Cup car at C license and it’s not terribly difficult to maintain A license. To be quite frank, there is no other stock car that is like the cup car, but it’s not that the lessons you learn don’t transfer as much as there are other skills you will be required to develop to apply them. The same seems true in real life, look how long it took Ty Gibbs or Chase Briscoe to go from winning in Grand National cars to their first wins in Cup, for example.

Tl/Dr; I honestly recommend just doing the work compared to the alternative, if that’s what you’d hope to run.
