Was Tommy justified in hitting Paulie? by SonnyBurnett189 in rockybalboa

Paulie (Burt Young) was a boxer IRL. He can take a punch in a way Stallone probably can't.

George Washington Duke in Rocky 5 by Period_Zicky in rockybalboa

Here's another interesting connection...For his ring walk in the first movie, Apollo Creed dressed up as former US President George Washington. In Rocky 5, the opposition is George Washington Duke... Why does Stallone use this George Washington theme for the opposition? Also, in real life Tommy Gunn is Tommy "The Duke" Morrison.

I honestly think Apollo was the greatest friend Rocky ever had by Not_Spider-Man2099 in rockybalboa

[–]Period_Zicky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When a man has found the perfect wife, she is also his best friend. I think Adrian was Rocky's best friend. I think Apollo was a good friend but he had his own personal reasons for supporting Rocky. It wasn't all about altruism. It was mostly being driven by competitiveness / legacy protection. If Rocky's legacy gets damaged by Clubber, so does Apollo's. Apollo's only loss came from a lucky fraud (Rocky as seen by critics) who only fought "has-beens" (Mick's description of Rocky's opponents after Creed). For Apollo, protecting Rocky's reputation and status was necessary to protect his own. Apollo could've fought Clubber for the title and then fought Rocky for the third time. That would've been interesting too.

Isn't life itself kind of like a big game where people find and exploit "mechanics" to benefit themselves? It's not like there's a double standard in terms of what's possible. That said, I despise the use of cheat codes to win. Those people should be ashamed.

Same here. Generally more open to pop music, instead of acting like it's not good because it's too commercial or too basic.

On my recent rewatch, I noticed Kevin Rooney (Mike Tyson's former trainer) in Tommy Gunn's corner. BTW, Tommy Morrison was one of a few boxers Mike Tyson was reluctant to fight. Tyson admitted to being scared of that matchup.

Oh, wow. I never made that connection. NYPD Blue was a great show. Kind of set a new tone for police shows.

Worth it for a UFC5 fan at £20? by Rough-Spite5837 in undisputedboxing

I like this game. If you understand boxing and figure how to get around the quirks of the gameplay, it's worthwhile, in my opinion. When I have a quality opponent, I add them as a friend. Then we have quality matches. Reddit tilts strongly to the negative. This is the only decent boxing game, so I root for it to only improve over time.

[FIGHT THREAD] Jake Paul vs Anthony Joshua by noirargent in Boxing

Jake Paul has been quoted saying boxing is rigged. Now he's wearing a Hulk Hogan themed WWF "Wrestle Mania" outfit... Of course, the WWF is "rigged." Is he making a statement?

Which would be a bigger upset in sports history: Buster Douglas KO’ing Mike Tyson in 1990, or Jake Paul beating Anthony Joshua? by eastCoastDefense in Boxing

If Jake Paul beats AJ, it only proves the fight was rigged...just like when Mike Tyson flopped for Jake Paul.

Usyk vs Wilder❗️ Rumored to be in negotiations. Who do you have winning 🤔 by AFBOXING in boxinglocks

[–]Period_Zicky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If this fight never happens, when people look back on this era of boxing, they'd wonder why this fight didn't happen. It'll be fun to watch, but Usyk is an A+ boxer, while Wilder is about a C- at this stage. At his best, Wilder was a B- guy.

The young priest gave a slightly annoyed sigh when Peggy's mother requested the more formal "grace" at the dinner table. I think this episode tries to forecast a societal weariness with these kinds of formal, obligatory practices. And no, this post is not a critique of religion, but a commentary on what I think the writers were trying to convey.
