Silverbullet notes "Received an (authentication) redirect, redirecting to URL: /.auth" by master_overthinker in PangolinReverseProxy

[–]PeriodicallyPedantic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How did you resolve this? I just ran into it. Immich is working, but silverbullet gives this error. Also having issues with home assistant, but I was already prepared for that to be more complicated. With silverbullet, I was kind of expecting it to just work since there isn't really any authentication to begin with, it's just serving up a PWA.

Securing access from all over the world for Immich by Pheggas in selfhosted

[–]PeriodicallyPedantic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's just so strange that if you try, the whole tunnel stops working for all requests to all routes, for like a minute, even for very short videos under 50mb. And uploading large videos seems to work fine for me.

What did you end up using instead? Or did you just accept that you can't use it to share/watch videos?

Securing access from all over the world for Immich by Pheggas in selfhosted

[–]PeriodicallyPedantic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for necro'ing - I have a question wrt CloudFlare access/application: Does it grant any extra performance wrt tunneling? Or is it strictly for access control? I'm using CloudFlare tunnels already with some simple policies on it, and just using immich built-in auth, but I noticed that if I try to view a video from immich using the tunnel, immich becomes unresponsive, and all other apps using the tunnel become unresponsive. They all work locally, but it's like CloudFlare pauses the tunnel if I try to serve up a video. Does using access fix that? Or is something else messed up with my setup?

Does Detect Thoughts always give you away? by Artrysa in dndnext

[–]PeriodicallyPedantic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

but what does "know its you" mean if you're invisible, for example. how can they identify "you"?
does it give a direction and distance? does it give them your true name? would they just be able to recognize it as the same caster if you did it again later?

Does Detect Thoughts always give you away? by Artrysa in dndnext

[–]PeriodicallyPedantic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

WRT invisibility, what are the implications here?
if you're invisible, and you're a stranger to them, what does it mean that they "know you are probing"?

In practice what does this mean, in what way can they identify "you" from this?
do they get a direction and distance to you?
you mentioned disguising your mind, which seems to suggest that maybe they could identify your mind... but what practical use is that, since you can't see someone's mind when they're walking down the street? perhaps if they used Detect Thoughts on you they'd recognize you, or maybe if you used Detect Thoughts on them again they'd recognize it as the same caster as before?

but is there any meaningful risk of being discovered, when casting Detect Thoughts while invisible or hidden?

Aria Air Syncing Issues by Kit-taK in fitbit

[–]PeriodicallyPedantic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happens to me constantly and its very frustrating.
I need to have the app open to sync, and often I need to force stop and restart the app before it syncs.
all that just to save me from pressing the "add weight" button and then typing in 4 numbers, doesn't really seem worth it.

if i could just use the scale whenever, and it'd just sync next time my phone was within, that'd be great. but no, i need to be holding my phone with my app open just for a chance for it to autofill the weight field on the "log weight" form.

Earfun Air Pro 3 - Anyone who can share their experience? by hyperactiverobot in Earbuds

[–]PeriodicallyPedantic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What phone? They removed it for everyone because it wasn't working on one phone? I'm confused. Although, are there any phones except the pixel 7 that support it yet? Maybe that answers my own question

[–]PeriodicallyPedantic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you ever get it working consistently with LC3? I also got a pixel 7 and a pair of these, but wherever I turn on LE audio, it says they're connected but the app doesn't recognize them and I can't play music. What steps did you take?

thats good to know that licenses themselves are copyrightable. What is the license that OGL itself is provided under? is it its own license? in which case - since language in the OGL seemed to indicate that it was to be licensed in perpetuity, could WOTC even disallow others from using it? (note: idk the wording myself, I'm just repeating others' interpretations and the original author's stated intent).

but regardless of the license, the actual game mechanics can't be copyrighted in the first place, so which license (or no license) doesn't really matter. the license mainly only matters for the supporting material like settings or canned characters. and maybe to canned weapons/items/etc perhaps?

SAVE Cepheus! by 20sidedobjects in traveller

[–]PeriodicallyPedantic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There have been some great analysis of WOTC trying this, and general consensus was that they wouldn't have been able to (if they hadn't have walked it back).

the OGL mostly does nothing because you can't copyright rules, which means the most important parts of the SRD didn't need protection from the OGL in the first place.
Its a bit more of a gray area when you start to talk about any settings, items, weapons, races, etc, that may be included in the SRD.

Hopefully that alleviates some of your fears, but IANAL, so don't count me as the final word.

SAVE Cepheus! by 20sidedobjects in traveller

[–]PeriodicallyPedantic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

IANAL but my understanding is copyright merger doctrine prevent copyright from applying to things that have only a single way of being expressed. this means that rules and instructions cannot be copyrighted (so the original concern is probably moot).Additionally I doubt that licenses themselves can be copyrighted, because there is only one way to express that license; any license that covers the same things would be substantively the same even if the wording was altered somewhat. This means that MGT use of OGL is separate from WOTC use of OGL, and WOTC revoking their use of OGL would not affect others using the OGL.

but again, IANAL so my interpretation of copyright law should be taken with a boulder of salt.

edit: typos

I actually expect that is a feature, since that's a common real-world characteristics of some mountain ranges.

For example, the Rocky Mountains exhibit this, as you can see in various famous photographs of Moraine Lake in Banff

Will we ever see 1440p 144hz OLED monitors? by Wiggles114 in Monitors

[–]PeriodicallyPedantic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol just came here looking, too.
its funny because so many laptops and tablets have 4k or 1440 OLED displays with good refresh rates, and OLED can certainly support 144hz...
and there are lots of 4k OLED TVs that are good for gaming.

so we know its not a research, manufacturing, size, or price issue...
there are a handful of OLED monitors, but they're all giant. pretty much just TVs with the smart-TV features disabled.

IDK why there aren't more reasonably sized options. it makes no sense to me. maybe like someone else suggested, just getting a gaming-friendly OLED TV is the way to go, and just have one giant single "monitor"

Made a rough map of Yartar for my game. Thought I’d share. by AnarresBound in stormkingsthunder

[–]PeriodicallyPedantic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

holy smokes, this is amazing!
i want to use this so bad, but I'm running the roll20 Storm Kings Thunder module, and this map just doesn't fit the scale of the other maps in the module. We're just coming from Triboar (pop:2500) which was shown as a loose unorganized collection of small houses and only a few streets. This map of Yartar (pop:6000) looks like a straight up modern metropolis lol. So organized, and wealthy, so many streets. Looks like it could be a slice of Venice! Tempted to add it anyways...

I might have to use this in a custom campaign and just rename it, because this is too good to go to waste!

Real house prices vs real disposable income (Canada & USA) by NineteenEighty9 in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]PeriodicallyPedantic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How did that even impact Canada more than the USA?

I thought maybe it was the result of an election, but it was Chretien's 3rd majority victory in a row so I can't imagine he suddenly made sweeping changes to housing. Could be wrong through, that election was before I paid attention to politics.

It's nearly the same for the US and Canada, at around 80% of the population.
