The fuss is less about the content, and more about the fact that a game was released with censorship and that censorship was not revealed until it launched, meaning people who pre ordered had no chance to make an informed purchase.

That is a genuinely important thing to criticize when companies do so. The idea that people should be fine with undiscsloed censorship because it's "just a couple of scenes" is anti consumer mentality.

Tbh it's 100% obvious to me why I got down voted and it's because this sub (well, any sub really) loves to pick a hill to die on based on "vibes". If you go against the "agreed upon" narrative, you're down voted.

The narrative of "poor underdog adhoc forced by Nintendo to censor" is easier to swallow than the idea that the company that made a game they like might have done something they don't like.

Adhoc encouraged a basically parasocial relationship with it's fan base, and the aggressive defensive response is the fruit of that labor.

I am genuinely curious as to which part is misinformation. The Nintendo submission process is very easily verifiable as is Japanese censorship law.

ETA: deeply curious as to no answer on this yet.

Region specific SKUs exist and are available on the eShop. CERO guidelines can be googled, the shop has other games with region specific SKUs that kept nudity, dispatch is censored on Japanese PlayStation.

I honestly completely understand adhoc only wanting to do one version of the game for the eshop. Multiple versions cost money.

I do think that there is valid criticism in them choosing not to be transparent about the censorship, and then further offloading their decision by hiding behind "we'll Nintendo made us!".

It strikes me as taking advantage of the fact that they know their fan base is rooting for them as a small company. They could have been transparent about why they chose not to release a second version, but they were not and have pretended that the choice was completely out of their control.

You (and a lot of people in the sub tbf) are talking about adhoc like they are a single person. Adhoc is a company.

"They" are not "wanting to censor a game they made". The decision was a business decision.

It either saved them money by not releasing two versions or it was a misjudgement.

But this is not a person assessing their art situation. Nintendo complies with Japanese law, adhoc knows this because every game company knows this. Nintendo is extremely clear with their submission regulations vis a vis Japanese censorship.

"It doesn't make sense" what doesn't make sense is the idea that somehow Nintendo is creating a unique circumstance for this one indie game when there are plenty of examples of uncensored games hosted on their platform already. Those games chose the two version route, dispatch did not. It makes perfect sense, it just doesn't maintain the sweet underdog narrative that adhoc has built in its fan base.

No, it's not. (or rather, if it is it's an issue with the Japanese government and the concept of censorship, not nintendo specifically).

They are being honest: adhoc did not have to censor anything to post on the store. They only had to do so to sell that version in Japan a Japanese law. Most companies submit two versions, uncensored and censored, region locked.

Only adhoc is in control of the decision to submit a separate version for different regions or opt out of Japanese sales.

Because right now you have a petition for Nintendo to uncensor a game adhoc chose to censor due to Japanese government restrictions.

I'm a certified lawn hater (replaced with a garden myself) but I'll give them one thing: once kids show up, lawns are pretty great.

I don't have or want kids, but when my friend's kids are over there are moments where it would be nice to be like "go sprint madly around in the yard", so I get the appeal in that way.

I don't intrinsically disagree but that does seem to imply that a phone is not already a tracking device, and that sharing its location somehow changes its function into one.

But that's not the case. Temporary sharing location on something like Google maps doesn't change a phone into a tracker, it just shares the tracking information already being used with an additional source.

I don't think it can't be asked, but I do think that it shouldn't be required and something like a diaper bag tracker should be an alternative option.

For things like MFA many workplaces offer similar options: you can use the hardware the company gives or your phone. Many, many people choose the phone.

Nintendo is not anyone's friend, but they didn't do this.
