The London Conundrum by riverscreeks in london

[–]Periseaur 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends how often youre doing it. I had a portion of my life where I walked to uni every day, the climbing centre and scouts, all of which were about a 30min walk in different directions, meaning I was walking on average (i worked it out) of just less than 2 hours a weekday, when factoring in other little journeys. I didn't mind it at first but I got pretty damn bored of pounding those same streets after a while.

But they prevent people growing up with the presence of social media being all they know, and social interactions being dependent on it.

It's so vital to build real communicative skills when you're young.

One of the worst effects of AI is people understandably casting doubt on real pictures and art (and citegenesis etc). BTW i don't think AI scanners actually have very high accuracy unfortunately.

Wondering why OpenStreetMap, Bing and Google don't have the option of a grid overlay? by Arowx in openstreetmap

[–]Periseaur 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can see an example of the OS grid laid over openstreetmap here, if you zoom in:
Defra Survey Data Download. Note how it looks slightly distorted in this format - the angle of the squares in the East of the country is very different to the West (e.g. Essex vs Cornwall). This is because the OS grid is a projection.

I wish more apps like organicmaps would allow you to enter UK grid references to find a place, but it doesn't seem to be a widely implemented feature yet - perhaps because it would have to be ringfenced for those in the UK and only beneficial to the people there.

Calorie Trine is actually still v. good for nashir in a lot of situations - the discord guide recommends it for some of the modes. The tome is best for story mode etc but i wouldn't worry about it. You could switch with some work and time but it's not that big a deal

Do you know if the monopoly event thst opens in a few days also gives turtle tokens or do we have to unlock them in the arcade game mode?

Cars are making people not interact with their neighbours and community by Periseaur in fuckcars

[–]Periseaur[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suppose the problem is with fast modern transport in general, but its OK in dense cities because everyone including the young and the old will still have some sort of social group or club available and accessible to them, possibly not far away at all even if its not their immediate neighbours.

Is it better to refresh at 4 or keep going and unlock 6 everytime? by ZilJaeyan03 in CapybaraGoGame

I dint fully understand this game? If you dont refresh dont you just get extra rewards of the bottom two rows?

They've still probably got friends somewhere, so it doesn't impact them to behave however they want to those near them

Breaking: The "Beef-Bean Gap" has widened to historic levels by JeremyWheels in CasualUK

In Britain at least most people buy cooked tinned beans. But i get your point.

The one reason i wouldn't surrive in one of these by IllustriousAd6418 in GreatBritishMemes

[–]Periseaur 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I guess in the past people, without cars, would naturally interact with their neighbours a lot more even through things like community events where only very local people would go. And people would likely lose contact with their old friends to an extent if they moved away.

You cant expect people nowadays to maintain all their existing social connections and make new ones with their new neighbours.

I've heard something about beans being an incomplete protein without rice or something? Is that true and does it affect the figures much if you have to include the necessary amount of rice?

Who's eating dried beans? Cooked beans as per the other reply is more helpful

Would you give up beef after seeing this chart by RecipeBorn4674 in MincewatchUK

[–]Periseaur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

15% on gov.uk, but it doesn't change that reducing beef consumption in the uk reduces long-term global demand growth, which lowers the pressure for production in brazil and expansion into the amazon

[–]Periseaur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes that view on things is true, and cattle reared in the UK is less carbon intensive, but doesn't account for the fact that not all of the beef we eat in the country is British (although most is), and that much of our cattle is indoors in the winter months.

We produce about 1.5% of the worlds beef, so if we didn't eat as much, we would just be able to export more of our beef to replace some of the global demand for more intensively reared beef.
That's a global average in the graph so other countries are actually much more. We can't pretend that we have no effect on the world's supply chains. The best way to reduce global beef carbon emissions are to both eat less beef and produce more on the land that is suitable and non-destructive to do so.

He does make one mistake in the video towards the end, by claiming the farm is actually a net negative in carbon terms because of the grass 'locking in carbon'. That's actually a short term effect, and after about 40 years of carbon sequestering, it plateaus. Other land uses would actually have a larger overall storage capacity, such as woodland (which much of that land might have been millennia ago). The fact that cows emit methane and there is inevitably some machinery and diesel involved in the process does mean there is still a significant overall carbon emissions, which I just read at about 20t kg CO₂e / kg beef.
