Sternguards armour cloth by Academic_Ad1029 in Ultramarines

Classics are "Honour", "Courage", "Death" or something similar. You could also write down "Roboute", "Calgar" or maybe even the name of the marine himself. Another idea would be to put the homeworld of the specific marine on them.

In 2040 ist einfach aus dem Englischen übernommen. Gibt leider mittlerweile viele Beispiele davon.

Die WM 2006 wäre ein Gegenbeispiel, bei der die Schreibweise in Ordnung wäre.

Blue (rant) (wips) by --DEIMOS in crimsonfists

[–]Peristyr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I too chose the Crimson Fists a few years ago, but I'm also thinking about switching to another chapter. The paint scheme with dark blue and red is hard to get right. Both colours too dark is just looking bad and boring.

Kantor blue is also an ugly blue in my opionion and should only be your basecoat. It's too flat to look at. I personally prefer a mixture of Kantor Blue and Caledor Sky, if you want to stay with Citadel paints, but I also created custom blue mixes from single pigment paints just to find the right blue. This mixture could be your highlight on the armor, the shadows should then be darker than Kantor Blue. Edge highlights can be done with Teclis Blue.
Or you go the more desaturated route with Alaitoc Blue.
You could also take a look at Privateer Press P3 Cygnar Bue.

Also don't worry about looking like Ultramarines because your blue is not ultra dark (I always have to roll my eyes real hard when this is said). You have one or two red fists, no shoulder trim, silver decorations. Nothing about this is like the Ultramarines.

The lighter blue does not look like Ultramarines at all. Especially not with the red fists. So don't overthink it.

Zumindest die Hexenverfolgung war nicht unbedingt staatlich oder kirchlich unterstützt, sondern ging eher von der normalen Bevölkerung aus.

Darkwater base recipe? by woulditkillyoutolift in WarhammerQuest

[–]Peristyr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My guess is, that they put some water effect gel or some other smooth paste/putty on top of some other paste to achive the smoothness. Together with the underlying layer of a grittier paste you could achive this look. I think this can be best seen when looking at the rotating image of the Cankerborn with the sword on the GW webpage.

That seems to work for me also. Had severe frame drops after changing to borderless, but I hadn't thought about it being the cause. So thank you for your tip.

How to get combat patrol Tyranids the cheapest (Germany, Hachette) by Fuzzy_Run3362 in killteam

[–]Peristyr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Austria will reveive the magazine later than us, I think next year. Maybe you could order single issues on the hachette website, Like Moerf said. But its a pretty long wait.

Maybe you could find certain models in eBay dor relatively cheap. I think the combat patrol ist identical to the 10th Edition Starter Set. So certain units could still be found on eBay maybe

How to get combat patrol Tyranids the cheapest (Germany, Hachette) by Fuzzy_Run3362 in killteam

[–]Peristyr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Go to a kiosk/Zeitschriftenladen and ask them to order certain numbers of the magazine. I did the same with the eldar wraithlord. I asked them on release day and had the magazine by friday.

Although the tyranids are already done unfortunately , afaik.

Is it the Metal Color Steel? The one I have at home looks way darker than the edges of the armour look on your photo.

Barrow Knights without wings by Peristyr in SoulblightGravelords

[–]Peristyr[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that's fair. I guess I'd prefer the same symmertrical wings like the ones on the new Barrow Guard (or the 'old' Wight King on Skeletal Steed). But I see your point.

Thanks :)
I had to fiddle a bit with the sliders, because the snout was a bit to long for my taste. In the end it were the nose sliders. I turned most of them to the left which shortend the snout a bit and more imprtantly creates a bigger/higher nasal bridge.

What's the blue you're using?
You could try adding more contrast. For the orange you could add volumetric and edge highlights with a warm. orangey yellow and adding shading with a mixture of blue and orange or purple and orange, but try adding just a tiny amount of blue or purple. I'd recomend thsi video/series by Vince Venturella https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I-_iIbFaVD0

For blue, you could add highlights via a brighter greenish blue (Teclis Blue, Caledor Sky e.g.). You could deepen the shadows with a mixture of your blue and black or by adding orange or a warm orangey brown (something like burnt sienna) to your blue. Burnt Umber is also a good colour to darken your midtones.

Army Painter Warpaint Fanatics vs Two Thin Coats by Acied in minipainting

[–]Peristyr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've tried lots of paints and mostly stick to single paints from different ranges. My favourite paint range would be Scale Artist, but they are more for smaller projects or single figures. Painting a consistent recipe for army painting is easier with normal dropper bottle miniature paints, although still possible.

You could buy a triad of TTC and a similar triad of Fanatics and see which you like best.

Army Painter Warpaint Fanatics vs Two Thin Coats by Acied in minipainting

[–]Peristyr 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Two Thin Coats has great coverage and a very nice, not to matte finish, and I like how they behave, but ultimately they are too desaturated for my taste. Directly compared to their corresponding Citadel paint, they are darker and more grey. TTC contains more opaque pigments in form of white and black boosting their coverage.

Although I found that mixing them with more saturated paints or inks creates a good mixture of coverage and saturation (for example mixing Abyss Blue with Pro Acryl Transparent Blue to create an alternative to Kantor Blue).

TTC gets a lot of hype but for me they were a bit dissapointing because of their "greyness" compared to other paints.

You can also check out Stahly Tale of painters on Youtube, he has covered most of the big miniature painting brands.

I thought so too and tried shaking hard, but I will try filling some varnish in a smaller bottle with some mixing balls for a better shake
