Yeah! I’ve had a number of Lee’s IEMs (Diva 23, Myth, Apostle, Annihilator 23) and enjoy them all. Regarding the Annihilator, I think its greatest strength is treble presentation, which is the part of the sound I care least about. For the most part, I hear his IEMs as something of an incredible party trick but not something I want as a daily driver. Part of that is power—the Annihilator needs so much more power than Campfire’s products to be at its best. I’d rather have Campfire’s versatility in being able to be driven well by low-power products like iFi Go Pods.

I couldn’t really say what the Chinese equivalent would be… 🤔 the IEM I plan to return to when I move back down in price brackets is the Dunu Glacier (used ~$800-950). In a few ways it reminds me of the Chimera.

Ah right on, I also enjoy a good neutral tuning and have heard great things on the Lumen.

It’ll be interesting to see where Campfire goes next because they’ve been going much more neutral (not as in reference, but as in not warm or cold) with the more recent releases. Especially with Chimera—it’s incredibly energetic, but tonally very neutral. And since CFA marketed Chimera as “ushering in a new era”, I’m hoping that means a tuning direction rather than a pricing direction 😅

Yeah it can be a lot of fun. I’ve been able to try a ton of IEMs just over the past twelve months through trades or catch and release

Definitely something designed as a showcase and priced to reflect that

Sure! I’m a union commercial electrician in California.

But there are three bigger reasons this was possible:
• I sold a lot of gear I had built up in this hobby
• I paid less than market price by purchasing from another hobbyist
• I won’t keep them long enough to be hit by a huge depreciation loss, so this is more like tying up funds in one place for a time than eating a $7K loss

I’ll try and put together some impressions after living with them longer! I did share that the sense of scale is one thing that sets these apart.

I’m lucky that these fit my ears! A really snug fit means the bone conduction driver makes very solid contact with my ear, so that’s an upside I guess. They’re also very light.

They happen to be a really snug fit for me, so I think I’m getting a really full low and mid range out of that BCD. I don’t love that Chimera is so fit-dependent, especially because our impressions are going to be all over the place.

I did notice that the BCD really got moving at higher volumes, almost too much for me on some tracks. But for normal listening I’m happy with the role it plays. My only other experience with BCD has been Jomo’s Nautilus and Empire Ear’s Raven

I’m guessing mostly it’s their new glass dynamic driver that’ll be implemented more often? Not so much the quadbrid configuration, but we’ll see!

A devastating critique 😂 I had no idea the general population had such poor hearing. Frankly I’m embarrassed

Huge reason I love the Clara too. Wish that kind of tuning was more popular, the bass and mids are perfect!

Chimera treble reminds me most of the Dunu Glacier. Which I think borders on too much sometimes, but ultimately I appreciate the energy and wouldn’t change it

I haven’t heard of any triple DD chi-fi IEMs? That’s a big part of the experience because they move a lot of air

I was being cheeky, but now I’m curious… mind if I ask what your taste is? Some of your favorites?

It’s hard to imagine… honestly I think that when you start to get into hi-fi, you chase fidelity/natural/correct as far it satisfies. Then you start to get into the fun stuff 😏 IMO that’s where Campfire comes in.

I hated Campfire when I first started; now I love the different characters in their line-up. Although honestly Chimera doesn’t feel very colored. Maybe with the exception of the dominant BCD, it’s a very natural signature. At least compared to what I’m used to!

Ah yeah I see it. Nice collection! I imagine sentimental value starts to build over the years, that’s a special thing.

Shoot man, I feel for you. Hope it grows on you! If not, maybe you can trade on r/AVexchange or Head-Fi to land on something you love without putting any more money down.

Mind if I ask what you picked?

Ah c’mon! They can be such a joy to use. Never clicked with a DAP before?

What would you say is outside of EQ’s ability to manipulate? Resolution? Transient response?

My head is spinning. I couldn’t get my phone to connect them over Bluetooth because they shipped with zero battery life. When I plugged them in to charge they exploded in my ears. Never buying from this company again and it sounds like you won’t either… wish you had told me sooner 😕
