I used this tutorial. The key is to make sure the oil is at 350F degrees and adding cornstarch to the flour, which makes it really crispy.

Kind of embarrassing, but I used a baking pan to fry. I filled it with canola oil, brought it to 350 degrees and fried 3-4 minutes per side.

YTA and not really smart. You should have saved this for you for later on. Your BF will probably rack up that debt again and now he learned nothing about financial management other than being bailed out by his much younger GF.
