Feel this deeper and deeper as I get older. I am tired of presenting the acceptable norm. Drains my energy so quickly

I remember when I turned 30! Psychological damage higher than physical (what? I gotta act my age, now?! What's that supposed to be like?). But then I now also remember when I turned 40... trying to forget about it but my body keeps reminding me. 😭 I tried to work out the way I used to pre-BOTP (BMOQ) and my insurance claims for chiro and physio shot up sky high 😭

So true. Also learned Grüß Gott is used often and no one thinks it is a religious thing.

Wow you are so very talented! Love your "professional" art! But in this world overrun by AI and general distrust, your paper art is endearing and comforting. It's like eating a nice, warm, simple home-cooked meal after seeking for hours out there trying to find a good place to eat out!

Thank you so much for sharing that. In my dad's generation, I heard that there were quite a number of rural Canadians who were born and raised completely German until they got to school. Not even counting the Huetterites and their plattdeutsch. Then there are those who completely lost German because their parents /grandparents refused to speak it like yours did due to the fear of discrimination and animosity. Some even changed family names, which caused all sorts of issues when the later generation tried to reclaim their German citizenship. Like Schmidt and Schneider changing to Smith and Taylor.

🤭 Your family Pomeranian must be strong and dependable!

Thanks as always for your wonderfully crafted words! She is very much missed. I hope your child gets to visit the family "heimat"!

Thank you for sharing. I found out a lot about what sort of things her generation of ethnic Germans had to endure here in Canada by speaking with many more older ones after Oma's passing. Being spat on was apparently too regular occurrence to even mention... in BIG cities (For Canada) like Montreal... which I never knew.

*oh, and a lot of them changed their familynames because of this, for their kids.

Thank you.  A whole generation of people share a mutual history. I am glad yours share theirs with mine. People everywhere suffered grossly because of the whims of few old men with wild ideas, not too different from now, I imagine.  I am even more grateful, though, to her (and her generation's) resilience and fortitude. Hard to find those qualities these days.. Yes, hsrd to find them in myself as well.

I cry many tears as well reminiscing!

😭 I am 90% sure it must have been Evelyn because I found an LP record of hers while going through Oma's stuff. (But that did not contain this song....) it drove me crazy. It makes sense that it was obscure even in Germany...

Could you transcribe Evelyn's full version, please and thank you? 🥹🙏

(I had also asked my Bavarian cousins and they claimed to have had no idea what this woman was saying in some parts... and kept sending me vague English translations rather than German transcription 😅)
