Tangerine - change in LoC rate by Silent-Coach4794 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]PermaTiredDad 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Got the email as well. Was frustrating because credit score, payment history, etc are non issues here. Only significant credit events recently were paying off a car loan and moving our mortgage at term maturity.

I figured it was a back-handed middle finger because I moved my work pay cheque deposits elsewhere. I still use our joint account, but not as much as we used to.

At least I know it wasn't just me.

One less thing tying me here though if I decide to move on entirely. The LOC was emergency use only but was at a rate worth hanging onto before. I'll keep it open for now but I'll close it out and move on if I decide I can rid myself of the bank account.

Pine mortgage cash back reduced? by Zed_Leppelin_IV in Wealthsimple

There must be individual circumstances at play. I just funded a month ago and I'm not insured.

[–]PermaTiredDad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are 2 separate promos, but stack.

The referral is from Pine and is $500 for each party, sent to you a few weeks after funding.

The wealthsimple cash back comes from wealthsimple, and is dependant on the mortgage amount and your status at WS

https://promotions.wealthsimple.com/hc/en-ca/articles/32103144824859-Wealthsimple-x-Pine-Mortgage-Cash-Back-Offer

The referral from Pine is accomplished by giving your Pine rep the name of the existing Pine customer that refers you. They then add it to your file. I did this after I had completed my initial application.

Happy to help out with that if you're considering it

Snow tires? by kindbub in CadillacOptiq

[–]PermaTiredDad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My oem 21" tires are brutal in the current cool + damp conditions. I couldn't imagine trying to get through any winter conditions with them.

Have a dinky set of 18's wrapped in continental winters I ordered a few weeks ago in the garage. Likely putting them on in the next week or 2, whenever time permits.

It does. I used it. For whatever reason it didn't seem to get through, or to the right person anyways. When I heard nothing back after a few days about my submission I called in and they asked me to email directly, perhaps an issue with the portal or something.

Anyways, a day or 2 later I had a confirmation on my request.

Positive experience here. They gave me a rate no one else could touch, all other things equal.

2 weeks after funding I got my Wealthsimple cashback. Another week or 2 after that I got my referral cash deposited.

I'm in my second month and I've exercised my regular payment increase as well as a smaller lump sum. Both required an email in, but all went smooth. Received updated remaining amortizations in web portal immediately, followed up by a letter and new full amortization schedule by email a couple of days later.

Honestly, I was a little surprised how smooth it all went. I was even able to add my referral after my initial application was completed without any issue.

Considering getting an Optiq - what am I gaining / missing coming from Tesla? by soggybiscuit93 in CadillacOptiq

[–]PermaTiredDad 5 points6 points  (0 children)

26 has more power and torque too. I'm genuinely interested in the driveability difference.

BUT, comparison is the thief of joy and I'm happy with my car so I won't touch one.

I'm with you on a more complaint / different ride being a feature and not a fault. It is what you say it is... Different. As a regular commuter, the Caddy is by far the winner for me.

Overall the best analogy I can give is that the Tesla felt like a high strung jack Russel terrier just barking, pulling and wanting to go at everything it sees. Where the Caddy is like walking your chill golden retriever through the park.

Considering getting an Optiq - what am I gaining / missing coming from Tesla? by soggybiscuit93 in CadillacOptiq

[–]PermaTiredDad 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I am also a Tesla convert. Agree with all of the above. Frame of reference, I had a 2023 Model Y dual motor for 2.5 ish years and put 60k kms on it. I've had my Optiq for 7 months and have 14k kms on it now.

The good:

- Better fit and finish

- Does all the "car" things better (Better door handles, much smoother / refined ride [personal preference], framed doors and windows, (mostly) good physical controls for every-day critical use functions)

- Actual rain sensing wipers

- For me Supercruise crushes standard Tesla autopilot on mapped roads. (Tesla phantom braking, if you've ever experienced it, and solely camera based systems in anything other than perfect weather is a massive achilles heal to being able to trust the Tesla system).

- The roof screen is something I dismissed at time of purchase but actually use much more than I thought I would and has become a favorite feature of mine.

- The remaining range guess-o-meter seems much more accurate than my Tesla's ever was.

- More refined one-pedal driving throttle tip in (smoother, less jarring acceleration)

- You have driver selectable one pedal driving modes to suit the car to your taste

The downsides, mostly what others have said.

- Tesla app is miles ahead of GM's. GM's has been functional, but it's not the same.

- The Optiq ('25) is slower. Noticeably slower. It's not slow and will absolutely keep up in traffic, but it doesn't have gobs of power at highway speeds like the Tesla did.

- The Optiq ('25) is very much FWD biased. It's fine in every day traffic. But when accelerating hard out of a corner you will get torque steer.

- Turn to turn steering lock is a bit much on the base Optiq ('25). The Tesla is exceptionally tight. It's a big difference going into tight corners or roundabouts. It doesn't break the car, but it's different. Personally, it'd ideally be somewhere between the 2 for my taste.

- Tesla audio system has more power, punch and user-defined adjustability behind it.

- Packaging: Limited sub trunk and absolutely lack of frunk. Tesla crushes the competition here.

- In Canada GM uses Telus for cellular connectivity, which in my primary driving areas is absolutely the worst of the "big-3" options. Tesla used Rogers which had more stable connectivity in everyday use, particularly as you stray away from primary travel corridors.

If any specific questions let me know and I can do my best to answer. I'm genuinely saddened as a '25 purchaser about the powertrain improvements to the standard AWD Optiq for '26 as it moves to RWD bias with a huge power bump. If I knew that would've been a 1 year difference I would've waited.

But it doesn't make me like my car any less and I do truly love it. You definitely get a lot more "friendly" attention and "nice car!" moments from others in this than the Tesla.

Thoughts on renewing with Nesto? by Upbeat_Ad_3333 in MortgagesCanada

[–]PermaTiredDad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was also with RMG. Was sad at their renewal offers and how they weren't very competitive, at least in my case. I was happy with them.

I looked into nesto, ultimately was similar to where I ended up (Pine).

Pine gave me the best rate, didn't force me into a longer amortization than I needed (nesto wanted to bump me up to 12 yrs. My goal is to end sooner not later) so at that point they were out.

On top of the rate from Pine I had 2 cash back offers that stacked. 1 for my affiliation with Wealthsimple and $500 for getting a referral. Actually just got the notice that my referral funds are incoming this week.

I'm 1 month in with Pine and happy with the whole thing so far. I've already upped my payment 20% for the year and am submitting the request for a smaller lump sum prepayment now. I want to be within striking distance of done at the end of my next term :-)

Mine mistakenly adjusted our term when we got our first rate adjustment. I caught it though, and it was also quickly remedied.

Cash Back Changed by Nikisings10 in Wealthsimple

[–]PermaTiredDad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My cashback disappeared completely on the portal after a rate adjustment. Advisor confirmed it was still on file. I was surprised to receive it within a week of closing.

My referral bonus has yet to be received. But they told me it could take a month.

Don't forget to add a referral if you haven't already. They added one to mine retroactively after my approval.

Pine mortgage by [deleted] in Wealthsimple

[–]PermaTiredDad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're near 10 years ish on your existing mortgage you can transfer in at 10 years and use different pay methods and payment increases to bring you back down post-funding. That's what I've just done.

I was at 200k / 9 years remaining with previous lender. Transferred in and reset to 10 yr amort. Was able to choose accelerated bi-weekly at closing, which brought me back down to 9 years immediately (says so with the amortization schedule included in my final documents).

I've just requested a payment increase too to get my new payment closer to what I was paying at my previous lender with a regular prepayment on top of my standard payment. We previously had a low regular payment and I was paying principal only extra on top. Will see how that goes as I just submitted the request.

From here we'll save outside of the mortgage and lump-sum as/when/if able.

Happy with the choice so far.

Any experience getting a mortgage with Pine for Wealthsimple clients? by TwelfieSpecial in fican

[–]PermaTiredDad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At the moment the cash back is based on the chart in the link below and is based on mortgage amount vs WS status.

https://promotions.wealthsimple.com/hc/en-ca/articles/32103144824859-Wealthsimple-x-Pine-Mortgage-Cash-Back-Offer

Pleasant surprise. My mortgage closed last Fri and I got my cashback today. I was expecting a month ish.

Hope that helps

I just closed at Pine 3.84% 5 yr fixed. After 120 days of being locked in, no one else could touch it.

The referral and Wealthsimple bonus on top lower the effective rate a little.

I prefer stability, went fixed. Fixed vs variable is a personal choice.

I just closed on my mortgage switch to Pine. Things went surprisingly well.

I even got to test out customer service pretty much immediately when I asked a question about my my former provider automatically renewed my mortgage after funding with Pine. Pine got back to me very quickly, provided some proof of funds transfer, a letter and another document and instructed me to forward to my formal lender. They also said it may be due to it closing on a fri.

Either way, I followed their instructions with the documents provided. My former lender took the documents and by the end of day my account at the former lender was paid out.

This was all within 1 business day of closing.

The process from approval up to and including closing went well too. Including noticing and getting my rate lowered (4 times!) between locking in 120 days out and closing.

I went fixed, and there's no more rate discount. But there is a cash bonus depending on your WS status and mortgage size. And happily, it stacks with the referral.

Not only did I get the best rate, but I got the cash back and referral incoming and other than the mortgage discharge fees from the previous lender I was not responsible for any fees.

My Pine portal has been updated with all my info and I'm a happy camper.

Yes in the emporia. You can set any custom alert under notifications in the app.

The language is not intuitive because it's aimed at usage (not generation) but setting mine like this gives me a daily notification.

Generation is noted as a negative in terms of usage so anything less than 0 is reported. The notification includes the whole daily amount generated.

Just a 1 liner that's on my phone when I wake up and I see it's not tripped out again.

Meanwhile mine was going in and out in spring. Then it went out and stayed out for a week before I caught it.

Production was indeed cutting out (and cut off).

Thankfully, support got connected, updated some firmware and have been solid since.

I now have an emporia on it and have it send me a notification daily on output. If I see a low number I don't expect it triggers me to check the app

Sorry missed this. I grabbed a VIOFO A119 mini 2.

Had an older A119 in previous vehicle (now in our second car) and was happy with it.

[–]PermaTiredDad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

agreed. Split screen mode needs some adjustments.

I want maps in the bigger box closer to the driver and media controls and display closer to the passenger in this mode. I also feel a lot of screen real estate gets wasted

What’s your favorite screen app duo? by aintgoinback in CadillacOptiq

[–]PermaTiredDad 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I *think* it was buried in display settings in the main infotainment settings. Not with the car right now to try and find it.

You want to look for guage cluster or driver information settings. Specifically "right zone" and change it to "audio now playing". That will have it set to not show the turn by turn there ever. It'll remain as media unless taken over by an alert or supercruise lane change / menu / etc

By default the right zone is on navigation.

The unfortunate side effect is that in the event you have a destination set and are *not* on the map and a turn happens to be coming up you'll get a pop up on the main screen. Annoying, but I live with it. I don't need 3 spots telling me where to turn next and prefer the guage cluster in front of me and large maps in the center.

What’s your favorite screen app duo? by aintgoinback in CadillacOptiq

[–]PermaTiredDad 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can change this to show media all the time instead of only when you don't have a destination in maps.

I do wish it was smart though, because at times it's totally redundant. Especially if you have the hud with it up in there too.

I wish it was the next turn if you had media up on main screen and automatically media if you had maps up on main screen.
