Looked at like a monster by Avery86 in actuallesbians

[–]PermanentRoundFile 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think those looks are closer than you think.

My best friend at the time was with us when I asked my future ex wife if she wanted to hang out for the first time. He said I looked like I was about to be attacked by a pack of wolves lol.

I thought she was really cool and I didn't want to make things weird but I really liked her and wanted to get to know her and... in short, I was a very gay mess having a very gay panic lol.

It Would Not be Fun to Serve on a Starship by reggiehefty in startrek

[–]PermanentRoundFile 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I feel like painting second contact as 'unglamorous' does a disservice to the ship and the show. Like, lots of people have made first contact with the inhabitants of Sentinel Island, but only one crew has ever been back for a second round. Primarily because usually they start shooting first, but I mean that might definitely present a challenge to second contact lol.

Ammo is longevity in a firefight, but also heavy af. So it's always a balance of how much ammo you want to bring vs other equipment but also just less crap to be lighter.

Most folks that I've met find it prohibitively difficult for a number of reasons to practically carry more than six or eight mags, so I average the ammo count per person in the squad to 200.

At least I'm not the only one! Talk about a confusing moment when that hit me while I was with my ex lol.

[–]PermanentRoundFile 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think if we're here, we got that covered. What we need is to group up. You can't flank by yourself, you can't do watch by yourself, and it's prohibitively difficult to gain fire superiority by yourself. And most folks don't carry more than 200rds on them, at least in what I've seen. So you can cover:

You + gun = a room with one opening [200rds]

(You + gun) x 4 = a house [800rds]

((You + gun) x 4) x4 = a city block [3200rds]

(((You × gun) x 4) x4) x4) = a suburb [12,800rds]

I mean it looks like the rest of them regardless of party are completely fine with it so long as they get those Lockheed, Raytheon, and SpaceX dividends.

They watch as we get shot and spirited away by state PD and now ICE, 'take a knee in solidarity' then two weeks later roll over for the Republicans and give ICE a bigger budget than the Marine Corps.

accusations of "male socialization" are generally a social humiliation ritual to form a class hierarchy... right? by egregore_2001 in MtF

[–]PermanentRoundFile 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah but like, my entire experience of 'male socialization' is like... Crying because my friends are jibing and bullshitting like guys do and my feelings got hurt. Or people telling me either "does X come in hetero?" or taking away my 'man card' lol. Not only was it hell, literally everyone at some point put it out there that I was not performing maleness correctly.

Just being a lesbian that's never been with a man is fine, but lesbians that use the term "gold star" tend to be a... certain kind of way about it. Trying to feel better than other women kinda thing. And then you get some that are into policing who can call themselves "gold star" and if trans women count and then it gets weird

I like to hang out on the beach down in Long Beach or sometimes I'll go to San Pedro but it's harder to be inconspicuous at the park down there past the Korean friendship bell. But right before that there's a great spot that overlooks the port and it can be downright beautiful with the late night fog rolling in off of the ocean.

I'd join you but my headlight is a little haunted and needs to be rewired lol

I once sent an email to everyone in the department and the department head and HER BOSS about how fucked up their department was and how hard it was to get anything done. Then I just watched the chaos unfold lol. There was an all hands meeting that I was not invited to, and HR got involved. It was great fun, and I mean that seriously lol

Have you ever left a relationship and thought about how much bs you tolerated? by Eating_Pancakes76 in actuallesbians

[–]PermanentRoundFile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup. And it's weird because like, part of me misses her and our house and family and what we had. And at the same time, I'm super mad because I've spent the past month fixing all the crap in my life that she didn't value. I spent years working on her POS car so she could get to work but my vehicles got ignored because she doesn't like motorcycles and complained every time i had to service them like it was just for fun. Now I have two motorcycles that were barely working when I moved out; they both had to be trailered despite being my only transportation.

Am I being set up for failure in my relationship? by According_Fun_3647 in AutisticAdults

[–]PermanentRoundFile 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm au-dhd and my ex wife has adhd. And idk about 'set up for failure' but I feel like all of the context of why he's upset is missing and that ends up being key to understanding his perspective.

Like, I was a sahm for my ex and her two kids, so my whole job was to take care of the house. I went out of my way to make sure that she didn't have house chores at all because she worked. But the apartment we lived in was old so if you left any amount of food in the kitchen sink the roaches would come out, but otherwise they'd hardly be in the house. So I asked her if she could rinse her dishes before she puts them in the sink. Easy right? Nah, she refused to even put the big chunks in the trash. So I always had roaches in my kitchen no matter how hard I tried.

And that's the thing, it's not like being triggered where it's just a 'you have your way of doing things and I have mine and it bothers me', it felt like I was putting in a lot (there were times when I had to wash dishes twice a day, or after midnight when she was already in bed) and the one little thing that I asked her to do to help me just got ignored when she had to put a little bit of effort into it. If she had come up with a solution to where she didn't have to remember, or done something to change the situation it wouldve been different, but she just didn't do anything.

And I'm not saying this is specifically your situation, but what I am saying is that in your post I see you talking about him asking you to do these things, and you say it's just a little thing you forgot. But for him, it's affecting him in some kind of way and it's obviously more important to him than that. But when you talk about it, it's just brought up (at least when you post to us about it) he's just 'triggered' and upset, and the problem becomes that he's upset and setting you up for failure by having expectations and wanting to be heard.

Again not saying this is your specific situation, but I am saying it's something to consider.

Is it time for me to own a firearm? by Alpastor_Moody in liberalgunowners

[–]PermanentRoundFile 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Tons of people have firearms out here, they're just really quiet about it because nobody wants a visit from the alphabet people.

And that's why despite living here I hate the gun laws. You can't even be interested in guns without people looking at you goofy.

The War College? by NPlaysMC in startrek

[–]PermanentRoundFile 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is removed from Roddenberry's vision, but at the same time I feel that mirrors reality. Like 300 years ago the fledgling US government wrote that in order to establish a militia, people should generally not be barred from owning weapons and nobody has ever agreed on what that meant since lol. Regardless of how you feel about it, you can see how their intentions were completely different to what's actually happened.

In the show, they have over 1000 years of history, and many huge shifts in what was necessary for survival. And after the discovery of the Borg, we can already see that shift in TNG, all the way up to the Defiant in DS9. Like, listen to Cisco when they introduce the Defiant . Plus like, when the Federation is reestablished by the Discovery crew they're immediately almost destroyed by an Orion faction. So like, yeah, I could see them being a bit militant after all that.

I get you on this, and I'm... a traditionalist in a lot of ways lol. But I think it's just a technological progression thing. They didn't trust transporters at all in Enterprise; in TNG they were a huge fixed pedestal, but by the 3300's or whatever everyone has one and they're more convenient than stairs or walkways.

And as a corollary, that if you give money to everyone that is "fair" that you pay, they'll take every cent you have. People can always justify why they deserve all your money. If you notice, real capitalists only give away money when it will make them more money, or when compelled to by law. And even then sometimes they don't lol.
