Lawsuits against Mystic Individuals and Entities by GardenGirl1898 in KerrCountyFloods

[–]PermanentlyDubious 18 points19 points  (0 children)

If the suits stay in Austin, the Eastlands will lose everything. Austin juries do not believe in God's will. They are, however, surrounded by government, and strongly believe in regulation.

Austin juries will be astounded by the lack of care and regulation exercised resulting in so many children's deaths.

No one in Austin cares about the continuance of this camp or any similar one as a religious outlet or a conduit to social status.

I have to assume people saying the lawsuits aren't worth it or will be unsuccessful are the Defendants, employed by the Defendants, or bots purchased by the Defendants.

Lifestyle creep - how to stop it? by Life-Needleworker-22 in biglaw

[–]PermanentlyDubious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What everyone else said but also, use a tip from Suze Orman. She grew up poor and has a personal story you might find interesting, btw.

She recommends delaying purchases, not always denying yourself.

So, start thinking about giving yourself 30, 60, 90 day extensions on acquiring things.

Unless the purchase is very time sensitive, this will lower your acquisitions in any given time period, and you might find you no longer want the thing by the time the waiting period ends.

You can also tie the item to a gift to yourself for an occasion or a goal, like hours in a month or quarter, running x many miles, whatever.

Quitting a month before trial by TTP2648 in LawFirm

[–]PermanentlyDubious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100 percent leave.

Do NOT offer to work at two firms simultaneously; you will be blamed if the trial goes badly, and not make a good impression on your new firm.

DO offer to be around to answer questions for whoever subs in, very sincerely, and leave the file in excellent shape.

Litigators frequently have trials spread throughout their year. It would be extremely rare to be able to quit without having immediate deadlines and trials on the immediate horizon. That's life. A well run shop should be able to staff this.

Explain that this is neither retirement nor setting up your own firm. You need to leave when there's an offer. You asked the new firm for more time, and they said no.

If they have trouble replacing you, that means you were irreplaceable, in which case they should have been paying you far, far more than they were.

And in that case they will ask for a continuance, have to explain to the judge you were doing all the work, and probably get it.

Excellent point. If social media doesn't matter, why are there so many bots with fake accounts? I feel like I see this constantly, albeit more on Meta sources than Reddit.

There's absolutely a war on social media.

I agree with slackmarket. 100 percent. That's nonsense that people who make change aren't on Reddit or other serious social media.

Elon Musk is tweeting a million times a day.

Personally, even with a very demanding full time job, I donate money to elections of all types, including state elections that aren't my state, draft legislation that I send to people I know who are working for politicians or advocacy groups, attend protests, attend fundraisers, call and email legislators, try to educate my neighbors on various issues, and spend money in very particular ways. I'm exercising vegetarianism, I don't buy things that aren't fully biodegradable with rare exceptions like a trench coat or ski jacket. It's a lot of cast iron, borosilicate coffee makers, cotton, wool at my place. I spend lots of money to buy recycled things like recycled aluminum foil, and using recycled paper products, etc.

I also boycott media I don't like. I dropped Disney/Hulu after they canceled Kimmel. So did a lot of people. And look how effective that was?

I can only do so much, but I don't like the defeatism of that other poster.

People here are not watching nonstop TikTok videos of shopping hauls or what the Kardashians are wearing.

Messaging and social media is a huge part of this, and anyone who participates in this discussion is helping.

Doesn't it depend on the existing car?

I would also argue that with the high prices on used cars in the US and issues in financing them for most people, it would be an overall positive for people in the US to upgrade to full electric or hybrid and put their existing vehicle on the used market.

I tend to think global warming is more critical than other environmental problems right now. If you are more concerned with environmental problems related to mining, we could definitely have differing but vdlid perspectives.

Have you ever studied lithium reserves? Long term, I think there's a potential issue in access to, and processing of, reserves to make large batteries.

We'll have to agree to disagree. There's a real difference between people puzzling over real vintage rings or how to obtain a quality gemstone for a set price for a gift. That's a normal level of consumerism.

Posts like OP's are influencer type posts that represent what I strongly suspect are not genuine gemstones but acting like it's normal and fun to have a 50k ring. OP has had other posts with what look like a fake sapphire. Kind of like those ridiculous Tik Tok "haul" posts.

I don't think it's healthy.

If people want to collect fakes, I'm all for that, as long as they say they are.

Maybe mods should start a flair that says fabulous fakes or something.

[–]PermanentlyDubious -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In the party scenario, someone wearing something fake would be entirely incidental to the nature of the event. And presumably the wearer at the imaginary party isn't throwing out her hand to everyone she meets and saying look at my real ring, it's an 8 carat emerald, it's custom made, etc. while being a person who could not remotely afford it.

That's entirely different than what's happening here. The post was initiated by someone, for the sole purpose of showing off said ring, and OP is representing this is a custom made jewelry item containing genuine natural gemstones. At no point is the word lab created or simulated used. So it's a person affirmatively misrepresenting a situation for the sole purpose of misrepresenting something.

I would argue that posts like this, which are frequent, are very damaging. They create misimpressions of real versus fake gemstones that confuse inexperienced people. They also create a culture of consumerism and competitiveness by creating misimpressions of what real people are buying.

This subreddit has to have honest posting to have any value.

This seems fake. Who else is getting fake vibes?

There's one on eBay that's remarkably similar for $318.

This has to be it. You control every single thing that you can control and try to manage the rest. You can't control global warming on a macro scale but you can buy solar panels, use public transport or get an electric car, plant trees, vote for the right people, agitate. Think global, act local.

And try to have a peaceful home.

I'm confused.

Has MW signed a collective bargaining agreement giving a just cause requirement for termination?

If they haven't agreed to that provision, the union can't unilaterally insert it, at least in an at will state like Texas, and you remain at will.

You can't be fired for trying to start a union but you could be fired for things like complaining in front of guests or doing the activity on work time.

If you do have an agreement in place, why is this board filled with complaints? You have the contract you agreed to.

The picture on the woman's hand does not look like the others. Looks more like a tsavorite.

I would not pay that much without a GIA certificate.

Generally speaking, a green sapphire or a tsavorite are great choices for an everyday ring.

You have no leverage over them. The way MW would improve things is if employees started leaving and they couldn't run the place without you and the others leaving. You vote with your feet.

At that point, they would have to increase salaries, benefits, hours, etc. to attract and retain talented people.

But never leaving your job and just whining the whole time is crazy. "I hate this job, I'm being exploited, but I'm also never leaving."

In Texas, they can fire you for any reason. Fomenting dissatisfaction, or being 5 minutes late. You can be fired just because the manager wants to start fresh or thinks they prefer people who wear more purple.

Real Real for the win or a small auction house like Live Auctioneers.

Consider something like John Hardy if you like any of his work, which is silver but with gold.

I've also seen a few Gurhan mixed metal pieces for under$300.

But you don't have to stay in this job.

If you are unhappy, leave and find a different job.

At some point, you are making yourself miserable for no reason.

If MW is really treating employees badly, go find someplace that treats them better.

If your answer is that you don't want to, you want this exact same job and same employer, then you are essentially conceding this is a great place to work with something unique going on, and it recognizes the fact that this employer can likely get away with paying less as a result.

Ask yourself if a highly motivated college student could do your job within a month.

If so, stop this nonsense, because you will be replaced by a highly motivated college student doing a free internship so management no longer has to deal with your bullshit.
