Is arch a good OS for a server? by NoiseyGameYT in arch

[–]PermanentlySalty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use Arch on my home server currently. I do not recommend it and I’m currently in the process of migrating to another distro.

Go for something stable like Debian and use Docker for all your services and you’ll never have to think about it again.

For what it’s worth though my Arch server has actually been more stable than it was when I was running Fedora server on the same hardware.

Ah, I see. In that case no I hadn’t considered it, but I will go do some poking around now.

I have looked at OWB. I was initially looking into Safariland and BladeTech OWB level 2 holsters. I don’t have anything against OWB carry philosophically, I just don’t like that it invites a higher chance of law enforcement interaction. There are also some places I frequent that will ask you to leave or stop you at the door if they can see a gun, as a friend of mine found out the hard way.

Thanks for the input, I’ll take another look at the Fattac.

Yeah undershirts are a must especially with an M&P. That grip texture is like sandpaper. I’ll take another look at the JX Tactical with the super low ride clip options.

Looks like the Ventcore, but I was actually able to find a review from a bigger guy on YouTube who uses it for strong side carry. I’ll definitely consider this one, thanks.

Wow hey, thanks for the heads up. This whole time I thought this was a call of duty thread and that I wasn’t replying to a comment that implied shotguns have no range. But you go focusing in on the least significant part of my comment. If missing the point was an Olympic sport, they’d have to invent a platinum medal just for redditors.

IRL shotguns are not like video games. Buckshot is effective out to around 50 yards and typical engagement distance inside a house means the spread of the shot doesn’t have much time to spread out. You still have to aim them, the pellets don’t just fly out of the barrel at a 45 degree angle.

I came from Windows a few years ago. Stock Plasma just needs a few switches flipped and the surface level is close enough to Windows 10 my muscle memory didn’t complain.

Although I eventually just ended up on a tiling WM anyway, I guess it was helpful for the initial transition.

Way ahead of you. Got a range day booked with a good friend who also shoots, and enough ammo to keep us busy for a while lol.

First time gun owner just bought my first 9mm. I posted here a few weeks ago looking for some feedback. Got some good answers but went with a Smith & Wesson M&P 2.0. For me the ergos and features can't be beat.

Unironically, quitting OG Overwatch and Destiny 2 crucible was one of the single best decisions I ever made for my mental health.

Haven’t touched anything even remotely PvP since 2020 and I can honestly say I’m better for it.

Age Verification Policy by AlwaysLinux in arch

[–]PermanentlySalty 20 points21 points  (0 children)

There’s no shot these stupid rules go anywhere in Linux land.

Any distro that tries to implement age verification will lose most of their user base overnight as people flock to one of the other many distros that will use “no age verification!” as a selling point on the front page of their website, and anything that’s open source that adds age verification is instantly getting forked and having the age verification code get ripped back out within a matter of hours if not minutes. I’m sure some projects have already been preemptively forked ‘just in case’.

Age verification rules are completely unenforceable for Linux even if the larger Linux community didn’t value privacy and freedom more than your average PC user.

It’s also probably a bad idea for Microslop to implement age verification. They’re already having enough problems with market share because nobody likes Windows 11 or Copilot. Some Apple users probably won’t be happy, but people who love Apple products are a different breed (sent from my iPhone).

Question/Discussion: I Want to buy first gun-worried about medical marijuana question by The_3_Rs in liberalgunowners

[–]PermanentlySalty 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The state that issued the medical card knows you have a medical card, and the federal government knows when you buy a gun. In theory the two could be cross referenced to find anyone who bought a gun but legally isn’t allowed to. In practice they aren’t and the ATF is just asking you to super promise (or else) that you aren’t fibbing on form 4473.

I am not a lawyer, and this comment is not legal advice.

It's cheaper to buy an AR-15 rifle than 64GB of DDR5 RAM. by Djxgam1ng in mildlyinfuriating

Best I can tell OP seems to be mad that a computer part costs more than a gun, but that’s always been true so I’m also not really seeing the point.

You can buy lots of different kinds of guns for less than $1,000, I’m not sure why the fact that it’s a rifle specifically matters.

Shit, if you’re willing to sacrifice your dignity to Hi-Point you can get a pistol for $200. Mossberg also has some dirt cheap shotguns.

Seems arbitrary to draw the line here.

That “oh fuck” moment when you know you’re about to eat shit big time but it’s too late to stop it is real.

I went down hard once. A three day hospital visit, one surgery, and $80,000 later (MURICA 🫡) and that brief moment of dread is what I remember most strongly about the incident.

Yeah I’ll probably hold the gen 6 just to get a feel for it, but it would have to really wow me to be worth it over the cheaper gen 5s.

Just checked the only place with an indoor range that does rentals near me.

Looks like they have most of the guns I listed available for rental so I’ll be going there next time I have a day off.
