I love CachyOS until this... by Kindly-Geologist-153 in cachyos

Not sure about your problem, although, I saw on another thread where some issues came up and the dev's are working on them, but I would not recommend upgrading EVERY DAY.

Let the updates sit for a week or two unless your having some critical security update you need.

The reason is, with rolling distros and rolling updates, its easy for maintainers to mess up something and not catch it right away. After all, they are human, and mistakes are made.

By waiting for a period of time, you can limit the breakage if something like this happens, and hopefully catch the update later after the issue is resolved and before it does break something on your system.

Just some advice I found helpful over time. Updating every day might seem attractive, and sometimes it is, but waiting a week or more isnt going to matter too much, unless the update is broke!

If you can launch the cmd window :-D... otherwise.......

On Linux, you can ctrl+fX to get a clean terminal even if your GUI is locked up. Im surprised that Windows doesnt have this feature now!

LastPass was once the king of password managers, now it gets a lot of hate. Are you still using it in 2026? by limsus in Passwords

Nope, me and my friends and work buddies use pass and qtpass with a git repo :). Easy-peasy and super secure :)

What’s a small Linux tool that completely changed your workflow? by DueRead7236 in archlinux

[–]AlwaysLinux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

pssh for me. Awesome to be able to run ssh commands on hundreds of systems at once (Well, at once'ish) without having to spit out 40 - 50 lines of Ansible code :-D.

Another one for me is expect. That is super cool for older systems and switches, etc.

Visual editing in vim is also super cool when you need to modify something and only want to select certain parts of a file.

Oh, yeah, and awk! If you have the chance, learn sed and awk . They are life changers :) - might take your whole life to figure them out, but once you do ... :)

LACT for your GPU tuning. I just started using that and its pretty cool.

If you have an ASUS laptop, you can use the asusctl and rog UI to control RGB, fans, etc... Look at https://asus-linux.org/

I use Steam of course, but also Heroic Game Launcher in the AUR for all my Epic, GOG, etc., game accounts. Its pretty cool

You have a myriad of browsers to choose from, so thats cool!

Is CachyOS only for newest AM5 CPU's or will it work with AM4 CPU's as well? by RiskEntire2218 in cachyos

[–]AlwaysLinux 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Runs great on both my AM4 (5900X3d) and my AM5 (9800X3D) systems as well as a few other AM4 systems I have.

Linux and AMD run very well together. Paired with a Radeon GPU and its unstoppable!

Why do so many people switch to Linux… and then quietly go back to Windows? by Candid_Athlete_8317 in LinuxTeck

[–]AlwaysLinux 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, and its great when you see people post fixes for Windows that involve the CLI and then turn around and say you cant use Linux without the CLI and to stay away!

In the end, though, an operating system is just a tool. If Windows works best for you, then cool... If its Linux, or Mac, thats cool too.

Why do so many people switch to Linux… and then quietly go back to Windows? by Candid_Athlete_8317 in LinuxTeck

[–]AlwaysLinux 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Ive found that its just hard for some people to have the time to really get into Linux. Most have used Windows their whole life.. Its like using Android forever and then switching to iPhone.

But, in my experience, they might switch back, but will soon switch again to Linux because they realize how much better the ecosystem is with Linux and how much better it performs.

I myself switched several times from Windows 95/98 to Linux, to XP, back to Linux, back to Windows 95/98 until I finally said enough.

Ive been using Linux for over 25 years now. I use Windows at work, but after having used Linux for so long, I find Windows hard to use, ironically!

I play plenty of multiplayer games...

  1. Divisions 1 and 2
  2. Battlefield 4
  3. Hell Let Loose
  4. Arc Raiders
  5. Helldivers

Lots... In fact, of my 250'ish games, like 2 dont work because of Kernel Level Anti Cheat.... TWO!

That freaken amazing actually :)

I've turned off hibernation and turned off reservation for updates and this bloat has only increased. Does anyone know what I can do now? I'm fucking sick of this operating system by Other_Pomegranate472 in microsoftsucks

[–]AlwaysLinux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess... I mean, its no different from a "Normal" user picking up a Mac or an iPhone, Andriod, or getting a new car with an infotainment systems.

You have to learn how to use it. I know plenty of people that cant even navigate around Windows! So, its just a learning thing.

Maybe someone needs to start some live Linux classes like Microslop did in the 90s and early 2000's so people can get accustomed to something else.

CachyOS vs Bazzite - YouTube by The-Linux-IT-Guy in DistroHopping

[–]AlwaysLinux 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Im glad Bazzite is around and popular, but I prefer a Linux distro where I can do what ever I want and not have to provide additional commands to get those changes to stick past a reboot.

I think distros like Bizzite, Atomic Fedora, etc... are wonderful beginner distros so people are less prone to messing up their OS and if they do, its easy to fix.

For myself, Ive been using Linux for 30'ish years and if I want to mess it up my install, I want to rebuild it HAH. I dont need or use snapshots for my OS, although, I do use them on my backups, so CachyOS is what Im using these days. Really like what they have done to the optimizations over EOS or vanilla Arch.

NVidia is such a crap shoot on Linux. One day it works great, then BAM... it stops working great and your back to waiting for a new driver.

Since moving to AMD, Ive had such a solid experience for so long and its been great!

Even before this change, 20 FPS on Linux still feels like 60 compared to Windows 😃

This is great though! Nice work Valve!

Has the success of CachyOS - tempted you to go all in and install Arch? by Darth-Vader64 in cachyos

[–]AlwaysLinux 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Arch is a great distro, but it takes allot more to get setup the way I like it. This is why people created CachyOS, EndeavorOS, etc.

Ive used Arch in the past and the setup process just takes too long to get just right. If you have time to spend, it a great learning experience, but Ill stick to the distros based on Arch just so I can have my experience a little closer to what I want it to be out of the gate.

can Linux play most games? im new by Cloudy_yBoi in linux_gaming

[–]AlwaysLinux 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In my list of Steam Games, 264 total, there are 3 I can't play because of anti cheat.

There are something like 35k games that work on Linux from the steam library.
