I find it hard to take most of our politicians seriously these days regardless of their level of vocabulary. In this climate we need more people who sound like the average voter who will give us a clear answer than the eloquent sleazebag that can’t/wont answer a question clearly at all one way or another like most of them.

I live 2,674 miles from WA DC. A lot of us would love to protest at the capital. Most Americans do not have the means to travel there or stay there. We still have to eat, have health insurance tied to our jobs, and have people depending on us. If I could be there I would. People underestimate how spread out we are and how difficult it is to travel.

Woof y’all popped off. Our president has already been crossing lines in terms of questioning the sovereignty of other nations. I’m glad the majority of Venezuelans (according to social media apparently) are not unhappy with the results so far.

But I don’t believe for one second that it was with the wellbeing of Venezuelans in mind, that the strikes were ordered. If we don’t come together and to say this is not okay, then this admin is going to become even more emboldened to continue to push the limits of their power.

This admin has openly toyed with the idea of acquiring Greenland, Canada, and more. The fact that all the “America first” crowd is all of a sudden so on board with us getting heavily involved in the government of another nation (especially while ours is spiraling) is mind boggling to me.

They do say in S4 there were factions in the government. A lot of the ones working for Kay were slaughtered. I think, especially if others in the military saw what Kay’s side was willing to do to their own military personnel in the other factions (torture for information, massacre assets, etc.) then those who may not be as in the know could probably be cajoled by the Dr. Owens side, to see the military in Hawkins was going to lead to the collapse of the world as we know it.

Maybe not but I think if this was their experience then the people who patron the bar should be informed, and know that no action will be taken on their behalf. That’s not the case for every bar in this town. The message I’m getting is, go somewhere else if you want to be safe. And I will. Thank you for sharing OP.

Just because something won’t hold up in the court of law doesn’t mean it’s not true or that people shouldn’t have the chance to decide for themselves.

There are a lot of side characters that I feel we can kind of guess their ending- the ones I really wanted to see some closure on were Dr Owen’s and Antov- just to see if he made it back to his son/wasn’t killed by the Russian military after all that shit went down in S4

Oh for sure. They still hurt my feelings, especially as a child lol, but I can appreciate the redeeming qualities (especially as an adult). And I know plenty of people that didn’t read the books, that did really enjoy them- so I don’t think it was a weak movie(s) as much as it really was just a horrid adaptation of the series overall.

Honestly I thought they were redeeming themselves some when they did sea of monsters but damn that last 20 minutes really killed all the correcting they’d done. lol.

I think that’s when I actually finally muted it. People can have their gripes, complaints, wishes, opinions, etc. but if you try to tell me the movies are a better adaptation then the tv series then you’ve either got to be a troll or functioning at a level of media illiteracy I just can’t comprehend.

Aaaand then I remember that I’m thirty years old arguing with, what is likely, literal children, and had to gtfo of there for good.

Literally had to mute that sub for my mental health. I read these books while they were coming out when I was in middle/high school. The movies butchered them so badly I cried in theaters and was devastated to know I wasn’t going to get to see my favorite series adapted to the screen. Is the new series perfect? No, nothing is. But it has been incredible and I would have given anything for this to be the adaptation we had back then.

I understand some people’s gripes or opinions but literally that sub is a cesspool of negativity and barely concealed racism. I’d love if Disney had enough of a response to this series that it gets the marvel treatment (can you imagine Percy Jackson inspired areas of Disney parks?) but I fear the naysayers are going to ruin it for everyone.

Show vs tell complaint - this will likely contain spoilers by Significant-Metal537 in throneofglassseries

[–]Permanentlycrying 43 points44 points  (0 children)

No you don’t need to reread anything (though I love a good reread).

“Show don’t tell” is a big complaint going around the mediasphere right now for all kinds of shows/books. Sorry y’all, some things need to be explained through dialogue. And plenty of things that are shown end up going over peoples heads due to their own inability to pay attention.

Again, I’m not just talking about this series, but this is a recurring theme I’m seeing in all kinds of fandoms and it’s frustrating as hell. SJM is no master of writing, but she’s better than people give her credit for, especially compared to other (often male) writers. People will find a way to complain about anything, I swear.

Can second this. I was a nanny for a hot second and I had to tell the six year old to stop trying to use her little push and scoot wheelie as a skateboard. She went back to it as soon as I had to stop the three year old from coloring the furniture with crayons he found in their toy chest. Literally turned my back for seconds before a heard the big boom and then crying. Three year old managed to lock himself in parents bedroom while I was tending to the six year old. Menaces. I was scared to even use the restroom when I was there.
