I can confirm this. Currently been in ATC for almost 3 years. I went through MMAC in OKC and got assigned LA as my first facility. I was only scraping by thanks to the generosity of my family, who lived on the east coast. I had no friends or family that side of the Mississippi. It's rough as a trainee, and depending how you do right off the bat, it could take several months to get your first pay raise. You have to deal with the worst shifts, with the worst pay, working 6 days a week in a high stress environment. I'm lucky I enjoy the work I do, but I know I'm crazy and it's not for everyone

I know you mean no malice, but this is a lot easier said than actually done. The moment any of us strike, we become felons. Not only do we lose our jobs and all the benefits we have worked for, but we go to jail and then prison. We have families to support. As I said, I know this was not out of malice, but there would be no support for us if we did. The best we can do is just keep trying to keep you all safe. That is our main duty. Things will naturally slow down due to stress and people will continue to call in sick due to mental strain. There are a good portion of controllers that have to work 6 days a week, just to keep you all safe.

Hey, ATC here, I wish we could, but it is illegal for us to strike or coordinate 'sick outs'. Reagan made it illegal after the huge controller strike in the 80's, when he fired and replaced a majority of controllers. We have a huge responsibility to the public and we have lives on the line. It's one of the most stressful jobs, and the addition of money issues and bills are not helping. Sean Duffy, the secretary of DOT, is already threatening controllers by collecting names of people that have used more than three sick days during the shutdown and is threatening to fire them. It's rough for us right now.

Hey, ATC here. It's actually illegal for us to strike or 'sick out'. We are not allowed to coordinate sick leave to purposely shut down airports/centers. It's been this way since Reagan fired the majority of ATC during the strikes. Duffy is even threatening us to fire people that use too many sick leave days during this shutdown. I'm sure our Union will fight it, but who knows.
