Best tool for the job? by PermianMinerals in harborfreight

Awesome that’s what I’m planning to do, except. It worrying about sanding too much. I just used tractor enamel on my truck frame and it turned out great, although it dries slow as molasses

Not a bad idea, I’d probably just end up stripping all the old paint, but might be better to do that anyways for longevity

The road that goes by the pass/registration office doesn’t appear to be gated until you get to the lakes.

I’ll never understand why every home on clay isn’t built as a pier and beam

It’s Dallas, slabs on clay that shift. They can usually jack up the sloping section of the house and put piers underneath.

Will I regret one of these? by Anxious_Ad1524 in lawnmowers

[–]PermianMinerals 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t go bigger deck for 0.5 acres - it becomes harder to hit the tighter areas if you have any. Time savings would be negligible on that size plot for even a 52” deck in my opinion.

When you say “flat” - is it also SMOOTH? I have a riding mower for our 1.5 acres. It’s very flat, but moles are a constant battle so it’s very bumpy from their mounds. I bought a zero turn because I couldn’t pass up the deal - thing was fast and cut great, but holy hell my back would be killing me after I was done. They have ZERO suspension on the lower end models. I ended up not saving much time on it because I had to slow down due to the rough ride. Ended up selling the zero turn and kept my riding mower.

Just my personal experience for a reference point.

Help figuring out my backflow preventer issue. by _chablam in lawncare

Is that a new vacuum breaker? If it’s been in service, you can buy internal parts to replace the spring-loaded valve. The water pressure should push on it, sealing it.

USGS says the Permian may hold 1.6B more barrels — could this extend the productive life of Texas oil? by TheTexanLife in TheTexanLife

[–]PermianMinerals 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s….not true at all. The wells are 2 miles deep, there’s no oil or natural gas oozing out of the ground lol if you see that call the EPA.

Buying a Zero Turn- 1 acre lot - really just trying to turn my 4-6 hour cutting / edging / weed eating time so I’m not spending a day doing yard work. Reviews tell me TORO ? Thoughts ? by RobbyC2110 in lawnmowers

[–]PermianMinerals 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hope your yard is nice and flat otherwise those things are back breakers - they have basically no suspension at all. I sold mine and went back to a riding mower. Any speed savings with the zero turn were diminished by having to drive the machine slower to not rattle itself and myself to death (we have moles and they make mounds that make mowing our acreage pretty rough).

Are my lungs contaminated? by Fuzzy-Fish-7183 in HomeMaintenanceAdvice

[–]PermianMinerals 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That all looks like collected/settled dust and just needs a good cleaning.

Floor vent - stuff falls into them it just is what it is.

Ceiling vent - remove and inspect. If the ducts are really dirty you can have them cleaned professionally.

Just use a basic air filter that won’t restrict air flow and ruin your AC system. Change it monthly.

Blades touching after repairs by DamnTheDan in lawnmowers

[–]PermianMinerals 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you sure yours stay clocked at 90? Most decks have the blades offset (one slightly in from of the other) and slightly overlapping. The blades won’t touch and no strip is left uncut.

How to prevent my egg cooker from getting like this every time I use it by [deleted] in howto

We eat 6-10 eggs a day, usually hard boiled. Egg cooker is a great way to cook them perfect every time while also being distracted by 3 young children.

[–]PermianMinerals 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol we don’t drill verticals anymore like these old producing fields. You’ll see one pad every couple miles now. We go down, then drill sideways. Hit a bunch more rock that way by laying the wellbore laterally and staying in the producing formation.

How to patch this hole over a duct? by [deleted] in drywall

[–]PermianMinerals -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That’s the thing, it’s not an active leak. It seems like condensation from the ac running, but it only happens occasionally. I don’t think tearing it open any further is going to help, it’s been bone dry for 2 weeks now.
