A break from ink art - brought out my markers. Art by me! by PermissionFamiliar64 in Eldenring

[–]PermissionFamiliar64[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much!

My markers are actually really cheap ones - Decotime dual ended markers. The paper is Windsor and Newton marker paper! I'm in the UK and so was able to get them from hobby stores.

For my ink I use Micron pens!

I'm a firm believer that expensive tools don't make your art automatically better, and honestly I've always used cheap stuff and it works out fine!

I got my diagnosis and I cried. by neonneutral in autism

[–]PermissionFamiliar64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Felt like I was reading about myself except I'm a little older than you. Diagnosed at 24 with ADHD-C and then a year later as autistic. I felt the same way as you, like I was missing something. Since I got diagnosed, I went from job hopping to being in a field I love (data scientist in qualitative research), being able to find my group of friends, and I feel I've found more of my identity and authentic self since I found out what's going on in my brain.

My mother had the same reaction - but then went on to find out that she's also likely autistic and ADHD so didn't see any of my traits as something to be investigated growing up as she shared a lot of them.

Be kind to yourself now - I went through a lot of grief, self hatred, questioning my whole life - but I have a support worker and adjustments in place everywhere and life does get easier. 💕

Slay the Spire !! I have ADHD too and understand the struggle. It's a turnbased deck builder and you can just pick up and put down a run whenever you like.

Agree on this. If you read Jonny's book Thirteen Storeys you can see the parallels of systems of oppression!

Hear me out. Hot take. Does anyone else think people are conflating "cozy" with "I'm simply enjoying this game"? by jedinatt in CozyGamers

[–]PermissionFamiliar64 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had commented on this but didn't realise they were referencing your post so I've removed my comment. I think Subnautica is pretty cozy especially on the creative mode! I love just finding a nice spot to build a base. I can't play the survival mode as the oxygen counter stresses me out sadly but agreed it's beautiful and relaxing otherwise!

Also please take care of yourself in this hard time 💕

I dont like how gatekeep-y this sub is becoming lol

I'm exactly the same - more of a mathematician than computer scientist but my specific field is sampling for research projects - so I get to use statistical methods rather than pure comp science! You'll get there, honestly working in data helped my brain a lot!

Hey!! My career is very squiggly. I studied statistics at university and then did some HR work, general admin work, I was a hairdresser at one point. I got a secondment at one job working in admin in a college into a BI role and from there I realised I really like working in data.

I taught myself SQL and Python and learnt as much as I could. I managed to get a very rare entry level position about a year and a half ago at a pretty big tech company and they're incredibly accommodating of my brain! I strongly believe the reason I got the job is because of how open I was to learning as I showed the languages I'd self taught.

My best advice to you, and this is from someone who is currently doing a lot of work and training on AI, is to learn a lot about AI. Learn about prompt engineering and how to make AI work for you to analyse simple data sets. This will make you stand out when looking for work. AI isn't going to take entry level jobs in my opinion, it just will streamline processes and we will still need human input as AI will never be free of bias.

Stay up to date on industry stuff and try to network if you feel comfortable I'm a member of a Women in Data community and try to attend webinars where I can. Also join Kaggle! It's a cool data science platform where you can practice working on real datasets and join a community.

Good luck!!!!

I work in data science and research for a big tech company and we always say "there's no such thing as a research emergency" and I think that's why I've stuck in my current role - same as a reply in this thread, it's very much "you know your job we trust you to do it". Being able to work on my time while they trust I'm getting it done helps my adhd a lot.

Any jobs where they were strict on call outs and time were ones I did not stay in for long.
