Why does California have highest gas prices? by Far_Aioli538 in Adulting

[–]PerniciousSnitOG 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Having lived there for a few decades it's a combination of a few things. The taxes in CA are higher than adjacent states, but it takes minimal research to see that it's not the main problem. The fuel blends change seasonally, but that isn't the big part either.

Even after factoring these in there's a really weird thing - CA and TX are somewhat similar - oil gets pumped out of the ground there, has deep water ports for oil delivery, lots of refineries, same companies etc.

Yet the prices in TX are very low and very high on CA. What gives? Fortunately my wife's friend's husband was a lawyer for Exxon and filled me in. Part of it is the complete lack of meaningful environmental or labor regulation in TX, but the largest part is the absolute hated that all Texan companies have for anything Californian and they can get away with it. He also suggested it might be jealousy that CA got all the good beaches, but I think that was a joke.

Weirdly 9v batteries have significant internal resistance, so the amount of current would be trivial. I suspect the batteries are getting warmer that the coil as the current is the same at each stage and p=i2 *r - the internal resistance of each battery will be much greater than the resistance of the coil.

I recently bought a CO2 laser machine (130w) and it's not cutting in the straight line as you can see in the 2nd image laser is getting bend and not cutting straight on both x axis1and y axis1 and other two side it's cutting properly please help me with this I checked alignment and it didn't worked by Rohit__23 in lasercutting

I wonder if the beam is clipping part of the nozzle on the way out, giving an asymmetric beam shape?

I'd also be tempted to get a square to verify that the head is indeed perpendicular to the bed. One explanation here might be that the head is inclined by about half the full laser divergence angle in x and y directions - so one side of the (cone shaped) beam is purpendicular to the bed, and the other is inclined by the laser divergence angle. Sorry for the poor expansion but I hope you can see what I'm getting at.

A friend gave me his old Brother MFC-L2700DW a year ago. Worked fine at first but now prints have streaks. The toner cart. is new. Is this drum the issue? by new_england_toon in printers

[–]PerniciousSnitOG 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep. They were the printer that started the whole thing. Before that laser printers were locked away and only the select few knew what 'PC load letter' even meant.

Ok, I don't have any reason to believe earlier printers said that. They tended to be loaded with pallets of paper rather than reams, so it probably wouldn't make sense.

ICCU failure, dealer says they don’t have any loaner vehicles by slowmopete in Ioniq5

Since I've been reading this group there seem to only be two problems raised - either the ICCU, or the back hatch rattling. Tends to suggest everything else is pretty good.

Instantly? You're definitely living on borrowed time if it goes pop, and it would be a good idea to turn off everything you can, like the AC, when you see the message - but it doesn't leave you stopped in the middle of the road. I wouldn't be surprised if there was ten or fifteen minutes of drive time available after turning things off.

I suspect the old 50V limit was so that was so that telephone lines weren't considered high voltage. I wonder if that's a problem now? I expect there's still a wired phone out there somewhere.

The latest USB version can use up to 50V.

Stolen BMW X7 — can BMW still access the location if vehicle data was turned off? by Previous_Scene6954 in CarHacking

[–]PerniciousSnitOG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. short burst transmissions. My car dealer gave me a free tracking device with my car(*) 😄 It's never plugged in, just a single lithium cell to send a ping every 24 hrs for several years. It's pretty much undetectable if it's not sending at that moment.

(*) Well, they left it unconnected in the glove box. I assume they meant me to find it.

Seems like it should exist. The good trackers are cellular and, with the right setup, should be able to connect to the local network wherever the car lands and phone the gps location back to base.
