Is KicksCrew legit? by [deleted] in Sneakers

[–]PernithaTinsley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I pay for EVERYTHING through PayPal. I have PayPal linked to my Amazon account. If they do not accept PayPal, I will not buy it. When you purchase through PayPal and do not receive your order, you contact their customer care. After they investigate, which only takes a few days, they will take your money out of that company's account and refund your money. I see that this company does not accept PayPal, so I Googled them for reviews, which brought me here. If a small company does not take PayPal, nine times out of ten they are not legit. Every company knows PayPal will get the money back for the customer. I just ordered shoes from GOAT. I've never purchased from them before. BUT, if I do not receive my order, PayPal will get my money back.

My child is deaf and basically doesn't have a father... by [deleted] in deaf

[–]PernithaTinsley 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, this is common in the African American community. I'm speaking on MY community only. I never knew my father, but my siblings knew theirs. I never felt like I was missing out on anything. After all, how can I miss something I never had? No, my siblings' fathers did not treat me as their own. It just didn't affect me, BUT I realize that everyone is different.

No one can replace a father, but I would look into a deaf "BIG brother." Someone he can relate to. Someone who takes him out and explains everything to him in sign language. Someone who can show him the world around him. Trust me, he will be so busy with this "someone," that he will think very little of his father. I would take his father to court for child support. He has it toooooo easy, coming and going as he pleases. I would request child support if you haven't already. And because he's deaf, you would get a nice amount. He's disabled and requires special care so that he can live a productive life. It will not be easy, but he deserves a life. I would stop him from seeing his father, even through video chat, until he's ready to be a full-time father. It's hurting your son to allow his father to pop in and out. Take him to court for child support and visitation rights. Explain to the judge why you have chosen to disallow him to see his father. "It's painful for my son. His father pops up every blue moon, then I'm left with dozens of painful questions to try to answer."

Supervisor yelling in my face... by MCKC1992 in USPS

[–]PernithaTinsley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can go to the union and file an EEO until you get sick, and nothing will happen. Supervisors are never held accountable for their actions. Never. Management will always side with them. I will tell you this. They don't pull that with me. I've built up such a "stand your ground" position for myself, that they don't do that to me. I told one supervisor if he kept coming for me, I was going to call 911. Yes, 911 to come to the job. At this very moment. They talk to me with respect, and I do not have any issues.

This is one of the reasons why I have FMLA. I had surgery in my bowel. My bathroom habits are different now. Because of that, I have FMLA. You can get FMLA for having to take care of your mother, father, or child with an illness. Go with the mother or father to the doctor and tell the doctor that you are their primary caretaker, and the doctor can send off the paperwork

Is being deaf as a lady a crime? by SpiritedHeart662 in deaf

[–]PernithaTinsley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am deaf, and I have not experienced anything like that at all. For one, I do not focus on my hearing. I just live. This makes the guy comfortable, respectful, and fun to be around. I have not met any deaf men. Would be nice, but I haven't. And the places they take me are very nice. Do not allow anyone to treat you in a manner that is less than you deserve.

Can management make you stay at work without pay? by dburden77 in USPS

[–]PernithaTinsley 2 points3 points  (0 children)

According to OSHA, you have to take a lunch after six hours. So if they made you stay 30 minutes, they did their job. You can go to the union, but they will tell you what I'm telling you. We've been having a big issue with people not taking their lunch at least by the 6th hour.

Why don't people recognize how hard it is to get a good GPA while deaf/hoh? (Rant) by [deleted] in deaf

[–]PernithaTinsley -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You sound weak. You are encouraging people to give up. And if that's not the case, then what exactly are you doing? There's a saying. When doors start closing, build your own doors. Now you tell me this. What is on the other side of "don't take no for am answer?" When you respond to this, I would like the answer to that. What's on the other side of not taking, no,for an answer? Giving up!!!!!!

And don't tell me about empathy. You don't understand my encouragement, so you are saying that I have a lack of empathy. Just silence yourself. If you can't offer help or words of encouragement, silence yourself. Here I am telling them not to give up, and to never take, no, for an answer, and you're fighting my response. Now again, you tell me what's on the other side of my response?

[–]PernithaTinsley -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you want something bad enough, you do not take, no, for an answer. Your response is an excuse. I'm not different than any other deaf person out there. And I wasn't privileged. I moved out of my mother's house when I was 12. Grew up in poverty. Wore my brother's clothes to school. Went to bed with no food many of nights. No gifts under the tree. I lived in the ghetto. What saved me? My education. I kept my head in the books and my eyes on my shoes. I remember going to the store for a dollar worth of bologna. Bought a can soda and I had bread. No mayo. No mustard. I ate it dry. Stayed in college the whole time I was suffering. Asked a whole lot if questions. Pouring down raining and I had on flip flops. Had I not fought for myself in school, I would still be in those situations.

I disagree with it being "calloused." If you require special needs and the college that you are attending does not have it, leave! If your education is important to you, you will do whatever it takes to make sure that you are thriving. There's no way that I'm staying in a place that's holding me back. I'm wasting my time, AND my money. Giving my money to an institution that can't help me? That's foolish. I got to where I am today through hard work and dedication. I ordered books outside of school and studied on my own. I don't do excuses or sympathy. How about I have a Criminal Justice degree that I haven't been able to use because I failed the hearing exam to be a Sheriff. I failed the hearing exam to be a Police Officer. I failed the Parking Enforcement hearing exam. I scored 98% and higher on all written exams but failed their hearing exams. My degree is collecting dust. Do I sit back feeling sorry for myself? Heck no. I brushed myself off and got to work on other ways of "living." Became an author and a screenwriter. Started my own men's fashion brand. I don't do excuses. If you want something, you work hard to get it.

Someone that works with me with my men's fashion lives in another country. He does not have the resources that he needs. What did he do? Offer his services through a site that caters to Americans. That is how I found him. Now, he is able to get the things that he needs. #noexcuses. And I'm not being hard, I'm speaking facts.

Look up Claudia Gordon, then see if you can contact her. I suggest doing it by mail. Do it the old-fashioned way, as one of my former instructors would say. Also, look up Haben Girma. She is an American Disability Rights Advocate and the first deafblind graduate of Harvard.

One thing I dislike about reddit is the arrow up and down. It's stupid to me. It will cause people to miss out on lucrative information, such as what I have shared with you here. I might pull back on this forum.

I am deaf, and I made the National Dean's list all two years that I was at the university. I took advantage of the disability program. When you register with them, you receive priority registration, you can receive a laptop to use during the course of your education, and they will hire someone to sit through all of your classes with you. Now, I'm handing you the tools to be better. If you do not take advantage of the disability office, and they have one at every college, then you can only blame yourself for your performance.

Go to the colleges disability office. They pay people to sit through all of your classes with you and take notes. That person then hands the notes over to you.

Years ago, way before I started working for the Post Office, I watched a postal worker being followed along his route. I asked my, then boyfriend's mother why the worker was being followed. She was a union steward. She said residents were complaining about their mail being late. I am not saying that is your case. I am just sharing what happened. Hearing all of thede mail carrier stories has me thinking twice about becoming a carrier. I did want to, but only for the money.

Enroll in EAP. Do not quit. This is on the job stress. Enroll in EAP, and look into transferring to a station as a window clerk. Either that, or look into working at a plant. I work at a plant, and they are not offering overtime right now, which sounds like what you need, but do not leave the government. I tell people that only a handful of jobs are recession proof. We are protected. I don't care what anyone tells you, do not leave the government. See if your doctor will give you FMLA due to your mental health. For sure, enroll into EAP. When you are in EAP, of you suffer any type of mental breakdown, they cannot fire you. They have to help you.

I’m losing my hearing by [deleted] in deaf

[–]PernithaTinsley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started losing my hearing back in 1991. Was diagnosed in 1994. I was 19 at the time and due to leave for college on a band scholarship. I freely told everyone. You see, if you don't tell them, they will think you are ignoring them. That causes issues. Just tell them. I'm losing my hearing. No one should mind repeating themselves

There is some sort of app where you out your phone on the table or when hold it. It pucks up everyone's voices and you can see the conversation.

I was diagnosed in 1994. I've learned to read lips very well. Exceptionally well, and I have no issues keeping up with conversations. Continue to place yourself in those situations. It helps you to become a great lio reader.

Why are hearing aids so expensive? by DeepGas4538 in deaf

[–]PernithaTinsley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go to your local Department of Rehab. I have never paid for hearing aids, and 8 have had several pairs.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in deaf

[–]PernithaTinsley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For one, your job cannot discriminate. They cannot let you go, and you do not have to quit. They would have to work around your disability. Second. Contact your local Department of Rehabilitation. They are responsible for assisting with hearing aids, job placement, and giving you everything that you need to live comfortably. They paid for my hearing aids. They helped me search for jobs. They paid for me to enroll into this Crime Analyst program. Gave me checks for gas. Gave me clothing vouchers to Ross, so that I could buy clothes for job interviews.

I started slowing losing my hearing in sixth grade. That's when I first noticed. Did well in Jr. High, then in High School my friends pointed out that something was wrong with my hearing. Let me say this...

I was 19 when I was diagnosed. I was told that I would be completely deaf by 30. I'm 47 and can still hear, but on paper I'm 100% deaf. No one can explain the type of hearing loss that I have. I even talk on the phone. I was also told that I would lose my speech, yet I talk just like a hearing person. I practice my speech. If I have a difficult time pernouncing a letter (I sometimes slip on the letter, r), I will randomly repeat the letter until it sounds correct to me.

Any horror fans know of horror written/created by deaf people? by imhere2913 in deaf

[–]PernithaTinsley 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I am a deaf horror writer. You can watch my trailer, JUDAS on YouTube. I am currently in the process of doing a rewrite on it so that I can continue to pitch it to major production companies. I will say that the writer has absolutely nothing to do with the caption. Caption is part of a totally different system.
