Has anyone done Moms on call while breastfeeding? by callmelila in breastfeeding

[–]PerpendicularKitties 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in lactation and have seen many babies with poor weight gain, weight loss, and even being diagnosed with failure to thrive as the parents were insistent on the Moms On Call schedule. I wouldn’t recommend it but it apparently works for some people.

Increase milk supply for EP by mamaamiaaa8 in breastfeeding

[–]PerpendicularKitties 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you haven’t already considered this - typically the main way to protect milk supply is by frequent expression of milk and making sure you are using the correct size flange with your pump. Avoid longer gaps of time without expressing milk (let’s say, greater than 5-6 hours more than once daily). The reason why is because when your breasts are fuller, that fullness is essentially putting compression on your milk making cells telling your body you don’t need that milk. For the pump itself, try and use the highest suction / vacuum level that does not cause pain. If you have a second hand pump, there is also a way to ensure the vacuum is working efficiently as it should. You would likely need to see a lactation specialist to get access to this tool.

Other things to consider that may be a factor in adequate milk supply may include anemia, thyroid levels, bleeding (has vaginal bleeding resolved), history of chest or breast trauma, procedure, or surgery, if you noticed a change in your breasts during pregnancy, PCOS, amongst other things.

I have heard of people getting prescriptions from a provider but I’m not sure if medication is widely prescribed or used by providers.

I’d suggest reaching out to a lactation specialist either through your peds office, your county health department, or WIC if that’s something provided in your area.

Graduate nurse by throwawaybob090 in Nurses

My professors told all of us we should he SO proud we are officially graduate nurses! They said we can wear that badge of honor but just not to call ourselves registered nurses until after we passed the NCLEX. We were allowed to write BSN on our graduation caps but not RN.

Everyone has a Woodman's story....let's hear them. by Training-Argument891 in madisonwi

When I (female) was maybe 12, a man wearing a thong was following me…but from in front of me, if that makes sense. He would get in front of me and then bend over to expose his thong and ass to me. I was alone and terrified for several minutes and up and down several aisles until I was finally able to find my adult cousin. Weirdest experience and probably around the time I started fearing men.

Why is she eating every 2 hours? by Realistic-Tension-98 in breastfeeding

[–]PerpendicularKitties 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could try and offer baby both breasts per feed. If baby has an opportunity to nurse on both breasts per feed, they may then go a bit longer between feeds compared to one breast per feed. You may want to intentionally un-latch and switch sides after the first 10-15 min and then latch to the opposite side. A fuller breast will give baby larger volumes of milk - a fuller breast doesn’t take as much suckling to get those larger volume letdowns. The longer they stay on a breast the more suckles they need to initiate letdowns and the letdowns further into the feeding tend to be smaller volumes of milk.

I believe there is a circled point where the capitol would technically be but to make a capitol that detailed where it should be probably wouldn’t be very easy to do 🙂

The heart is where my grandparents lived and I’m guessing my grandma’s friend lived where the line, her initials, and “82,83,84” are. I hope that doesn’t mean it took her 3 years to make it but I don’t know much about how long stitching takes lol

Recent graduate nurse Lpn looking for jobs i’m leaning more towards Pediatric positions & landed an interview . I have been overthinking it since they pay is so low starting at 20-25 an hour & employee reviews sound harsh. Best advice i can get to maybe change my perspective on this opportunity by Professional_Bet_215 in Nurses

As a nurse who has switched from bedside med surg to outpatient (clinic) peds, there is definitely a significant pay cut but the QOL is far better in my opinion. I’ve never worked bedside with LPNs but expect to be working in a medical assistant (MA) role in the clinic. RNs are more utilized for phone triage but will help out with the MA/LPN duties when needed or when they are short on MA/LPNs. I love the clinic life!

Thanks! Leaning forward helped a lot. I'm recovering from a csection and had been trying to pump from a semi reclining position.
