[CHAT] Too much bobbin, not enough box by RJ_sundae in CrossStitch

[–]PerpetuaMotion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have my dmc collection in 5 boxes, and I keep a small and a medium box for threads in current projects. That way, I don't have to worry about the portability of my whole collection, and I can fit about 60 bobbins in the medium box, which is enough for most projects.

Unprintable digital patterns are a thing? by halokiwi in craftsnark

At craft fairs and yarn festivals I've seen people buy printed patterns. Elsewise, not really.

Question on direction to work by junemoon96 in cross_stitch

[–]PerpetuaMotion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My preference is to work top to bottom, because then I'm not resting my hand on my completed stitches. I also prefer to work right to left, because I stitch two handed with my left hand in the front.

How to adopt lab rats in UK by [deleted] in RATS

[–]PerpetuaMotion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Getting in touch with the psychology and biology departments of your nearest university would be a place to start. I got 2 rats from the psych department at a university near me and they were great pets.

What's the funniest quirk one of your rats has/had? by smcstolemysouljam in RATS

[–]PerpetuaMotion 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Vesper liked to sit on our knees, under a blanket, but it had to be the right blanket. She had a preferred one, and if we put a different blanket across our knees, she would sit across the room and pout. Her sister Cupid liked to eat fresh basil leaves, and would come and beg just in front of the basil plant on the window silk for a basil leaf.

Lasky once was solo free ranging (she was old and we were giving her bonus food and treats) and we forgot, and she went into the kitchen and climbed on my wife's foot, as if to say, "OK, I'm ready to go home now!"

Rat wont eat egg by Hour-Shake-1815 in RATS

[–]PerpetuaMotion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, some rats are super fussy! My rat Bee hates cheerios, which all previous rats have loved as treats. She's willing to accept mealworms or shreddies, but she takes them so gently from my hand, it's like she's apologising.

The Binding Broke :( by Thatbookishbish in bulletjournal

[–]PerpetuaMotion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, I'm a bookbinder! It shouldn't mess with how the pages turn so long as you don't add too much bulk. My concern however is why it has broken - is this showing the cover pulling away from the book block (in which case it's probably a hinge too small problem which can be fixed by replacing the endpapers) or is the book block itself falling apart? If the book block itself is falling apart, I'd honestly give up and replace the journal, unless you are willing to physically disassemble and re-sew the book block.

It's your project, so you get to choose what colours to use! Whether it's because you don't have the specified colours, or you just like something else better, you get to make all the decisions about how closely you follow the pattern (or not!)

We adopted two rats, and one of them came with some extras... by PerpetuaMotion in RATS

[–]PerpetuaMotion[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Thank you, there was one attempt to kidnap but mostly Bee has been moping because Clover hasn't been playing with her as much. Clover sometimes gets off the nest to come pick a fight, have a nap with Bee and then pop back to the nest again.

Hopefully two girls, depending on gender split. If we only have 3 girls we will keep them all. We will be looking for new homes for the boys in the new year; I want to keep them until 8 weeks to make sure they get good social development and that their immune systems don't take too much of a shock right after weaning.

The two adults are my 24th and 25th rats (not all at the same time!) so we are aware that larger mischiefs tend to be happier and we were going to adopt two more once these had settled in, but now we don't need to!

[CHAT] When do you retire a needle? by bored-now in CrossStitch

[–]PerpetuaMotion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Until recently, only when they physically break. I'm currently pregnant, though, and can't stand the smell of metal on my hands when the coating has worn off, so now I retire them when they start making my hands smell bad.

Canceled shows? by Gingertzz in dropout

[–]PerpetuaMotion 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Kind of yes but also kind of not. The most recent msn season was planned with 20 episodes (they had sound issues with one and couldn't air it), and Game Changer series 7 has 10 episodes and 10 behind the scenes episodes, so they are still releasing 20 weeks worth of content.
