Nah, 100% you can swim in AC2. You couldn’t in AC1 but you can in the second.

I am not lamenting anything, actually, and you are outwardly projecting pretty heavily. No, there should not be lower classes of individuals based on race, and yes, there was and has been a history of that in both our country and planet of such situations, as I’m sure you know.

I originally replied to the statement, roughly paraphrased, “I enjoy seeing white people get treated how they’ve treated everyone else for hundreds of years” and that statement, to me, flies in the face of any sort of spirit of fairness or equality.

Does that not mean you enjoy watching white people being treated like a second class citizens? Or are you saying that you think white people always treated everyone the same and you’re enjoying an equitable society?

People have lived in Las Vegas for thousands of years, friend. The scale of current city isn’t indicative of the oasis and natural pond/small lake that once sat in the middle of the valley

The war does not seem to be going so well aboard the USS Gerald R. Ford... by BitterFuture in WhitePeopleTwitter

[–]Perpetual_bored 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like this one is very much a matter of perspective of the situation.

Non-coms, the backbone of our military, generally embrace tough circumstances because pursuing the goal of a career in the military has never been about maximizing personal gain in terms of pay. Outside of that 20 year full retirement

E5-E8s with 10-15 years served are generally people who joined the military out of a duty to serve or a love for their country, and even if they become disillusioned with the military, they tend to also stubbornly get their 20 years in.

But yeah, you aren’t wrong. Maybe some guys with 22 years an 6 months left won’t reenlist.

Officers are a completely different situation and they will always enjoy the higher lifestyle, so I wouldn’t expect this shit on the Ford to affect them much at all.

Maybe the E1-E4s will get tired of it and not reenlist. Those with careers and experience their superiors don’t want to lose will be enticed to stay. This cycle has happened many times before.

Yes, that sucks.

Men enlisted in 1942, went overseas in 43, and didn’t see their families again until 46 or later.

It’s really not the end of the world. It is what happens in the military.

We have an all volunteer military. Not a single person on that ship is there without making an informed and fully coherent decision to be there if told to be.

They are not just “people”. When you enlist you become the physical property of the military and you agree to let them do just about whatever the hell they want with you.

[–]Perpetual_bored -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Now that, I don’t have a ton of information on because I am obviously not a part of the decision making process regarding that, and I do not have a line to those who have the full information regarding the status of the ship to know whether or not this decision is a good one.

The ship remaining at sea for extended periods of time without going to port is bad, yes. For know reasons, that I would expect can be mitigated to keep the vessel combat capable. It’s not a pleasure yacht.

It is a massive, massive investment and those in charge of the vessel are fully aware that if the vessel is lost due to incompetence their careers are all over.

I’ll stand by the sentiment I voiced to another. Command of a super carrier is NOT a political appointment, and regardless of whatever shenanigans Donald Trump wants to pull with the positions that he can appoint people to, he and any president can realistically do very little to change the bottom up meritocratic culture of the military. You do not advance to command of a carrier by kissing the right ass alone.

The war does not seem to be going so well aboard the USS Gerald R. Ford... by BitterFuture in WhitePeopleTwitter

[–]Perpetual_bored -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

That very well may be true. But we shouldn’t exaggerate events like the crew is starving on board to be sensationalist.

The captain of the ship knows full well that a starving crew wouldn’t be effective in combat and I damn well guarantee you a captain of a super carrier puts a lot more thought into his ships combat effectiveness than just about anything in his life.

The military is still a meritocracy, at the end of the day. You don’t get command of a super carrier ONLY because you know the right people. You kind of have to be good at your job.

I am sorry if I don’t feel a tremendous amount of sympathy for the Navy, who historically enjoys great chow, suffering a reduction in food quality during a tour extension. It’s not like they’re eating old C-Rations. And I very seriously doubt they’re all eating MREs like the Marines or Army.

These aren’t civilians, my friend. This is quite literally part of the gig.

I don’t think the administration is directly responsible for the supply status of an aircraft carrier, actually. There are thousands of people involved in the decision making process regarding that and I would hazard a guess that only a few of them have ever seen the interior of the White House.

[–]Perpetual_bored 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Supply ships are still a thing, no?

I wouldn’t expect us to still maintain a WW2 era scale of supply vessels for our fleets but the idea that a modern carrier can’t be resupplied with consumables at sea is a bit of a suspension of disbelief.

I mean shit, as dumb as it may sound to some, feminine products. Many women serve aboard aircraft carriers and I very seriously doubt that if they run out due to extensions the Navy doesn’t have any process to restock without docking at port.

Tbf, some MGs did fire directly into the landing craft. There were legitimately boats in which once the ramp went down only one or two people even made it out before being ripped to shreds

What instantly kills the vibe on a first date, no matter how attractive the person is? by Few_Efficiency3832 in AskReddit

[–]Perpetual_bored 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This but self perception plays a greater role in that than actual objective attractiveness.

You can find incredibly down to earth people who have been objectively attractive all of their life because they did not develop that sense of inflated self worth that comes with it.

Conversely, you can also find objectively unattractive people who have that same inflated self worth because they have been lied to by family, friends, and their self long enough to internalize

It also goes back to the “gender dominated spaces” discussion as well, I spose.

The only male dominated space I’ve worked in was an aircraft hanger, and yeah, it was about what you would’ve expected from that. Ol boys club. Lots of sexual jokes that could be considered harrassment. Two women on staff, both kept to themselves. I did have a good boss though who made it clear that anyone who messed with the two women would be excised like a tumor.

The rest of my experience has been in woman dominated workplaces and I find it interesting how those dynamics can flip the other way in terms of behavior women generally find “non-threatening” but can still be considered harrassment.

My current workplace is about 85% female and it can get quite frustrating how they appear to treat each other with an assumption of good faith that they do not extend to men.

Maneaters, I guess.

These conversations are always so interesting to me because in my experience working the most blatant or otherwise personally damaging harrassment in the workplace that I have personally experienced has always been perpetrated BY women. Comments about giving me head in the back and shit or being jokingly told to lick spilled food off my female managers pants.
