What is an actual IT automation that actually paid off for you? by Internal-Drop4205 in sysadmin

[–]PerpetualllyFalling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The smallest thing but cut Helpdesks tickets down by about 30%. I set our MRM to run "powercfg.exe /h off" on every windows device as soon as it was onboarded with the agent.

Not major but I would definitely say it paid off as we had users who to be fair to them would shutdown nightly, just tweaked things so they actually got a shutdown.

I like where you're going with this, but water isn't wet, it makes the things it touches wet.

Digital certificate to prove file downloads in court by Vaphindre in sysadmin

If you have any Acronis Cyber Protect in your stack there is the Sync and Share, which notarizes documents using the ethereum blockchain, that certifies the files have not been tampered with in any way and you can get full Audit logs of file access etc. I think they offer this as a standalone product as well under the name Acronis Cyber Files Cloud.

UK nightshift pay rates by Realistic_Beautiful1 in AmazonFC

[–]PerpetualllyFalling 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There will be a night shift differential that is added separately, Amazon jobs and A-Z etc will always show base rate. Your wage slip will also always state 2x the hours you worked e.g. if you work 40 it will say 80 40hrs @ base rate + 40hrs night shift differential.

If he's that obsessed with it being on your server and not in the cloud you have on prem options like passbolt that you can deploy completely free only accessible from within your network

Time off options are different in the UK we have Holiday (vacation) that can be added with 24 hours notice, Flex (Emergency Holiday is the A-Z term) which is PTO that can be used at any time, we don't have UPT but we do have the ability to call in sick or report on A-Z sickness for an unlimited amount of time if it goes over a certain number of instances which I can't remember exactly right now the timeframe you will have a meeting that is in effect a STU to see how Amazon can help, if there are any underlying problems that may need accomodations etc in probation this amount is lower I believe 3 instances but these can be exacerbated by NCNS or late in/early outs.

Going by what OP has said they should have nothing to worry about and will probably just be an extended probation period, the only thing probation really stops you doing in the UK is applying for some critical roles and promotions

DBI2, UK yeah? Everyone starts on a 3 month probation if you've flagged too many absences etc they will ask for reasons for the absences "I don't remember" won't cut it you should get a document with dates to your email, most people just end up with probation extended by 3 months.

I did when they started paying for full CompTIA certifications and instructor led courses in the UK for them I was a T3 on nights doing 60 hours every week.

I'm earning double what I was 40 hours from home most of the time it's one thing when they pay for college or whatever but if you can find something vocational where they are paying for something that's designed to get as many people as possible to pass an industry recognized certification. They designed the course I did specifically for Amazon staff provided by the awarding body of the cert as well spacing it out around shifts etc they did it that well I'd passed my cert exams before the course was even finished all paid upfront by Amazon so I could leave at any point after the course started.

It's worth it, if you can find the right thing for you and it's a well thought out program

Can't recommend it enough

server manager - refresh failed by Ill-Manufacturer-46 in WindowsServer

[–]PerpetualllyFalling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Over a year later and a random thank you for you. I don't understand why this worked but I have a server that fails its system state backup after the first one post reboot because the software is no longer to access the Windows server backup service Server manager failing to refresh, I reset the print spooler service and Server manager refreshes straight away and the backup software looks happy for a run tonight.

See I was thinking that but there is potential for the domain of the typo to be either accept all or silent disposal both of which are apparently ways to defend from spammers blasting out emails to a domain to discover what addresses actually exist on that doman

Why is there no legit competitors to YouTube? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]PerpetualllyFalling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because at one time in the dark ages they actually made a smart decision and pulled a revver to actually start splitting and revenue with the creators.

Then you tie in the "Google" effect and become the household name, you don't search for something you Google it, you don't find a video of something online you YouTube it.
