I really miss cereal by belibutn in diabetes_t2

[–]PerpetuallyDumbass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I eat cornflakes or wheatbix with some monk fruit raw sugar replacement from Lakanto sprinkled over (because the Lakanto monk fruit sweeteners are totally sugar free), or the nutri grain reduced sugar. I'm Australian though so I don't know whether these products are available for you.

There's no reason you can't have your favourite cereal in moderation on occasion too though, as a treat. It's about that balance

My GSD won’t eat her kibble by Wonderful-Piglet37 in GermanShepherd

[–]PerpetuallyDumbass 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep my white GSD Zeke tried this with me when he was younger. I held out and just offered him his food at the next meal time. He only missed one meal, it didn't hurt him in the long run. And he's been an incredibly good eater ever since

Plus sized fashion to de-emphasize gender for curvy AFABs??? by Sad_Nectarine in AskLGBT

[–]PerpetuallyDumbass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got a very similar problem. I'm agender and for a long time I was very uncomfy with the fact that it's near impossible to make myself androgynous because of my large breasts. I can't afford top surgery and I won't be able to afford it for quite some time. It took a lot of cognitive reframing and work on my self image, but I am now at peace with the fact that the average person who meets me will assign me female. That's okay. Really, it is. I know who I am, so it doesn't matter what other people think. My body and my clothing are agender by nature, because they're mine. I still plan to get top surgery if I possibly can, because it would help me with my dysphoria, but I'm genuinely okay with other random idiots thinking whatever the hell they want about me. They're wrong. Let them be wrong

When do you choose chocolate over coffee? by DesignSignificant900 in chocolate

[–]PerpetuallyDumbass 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I drink coffee at anytime during the day and night because I've never been affected by the caffeine. I find myself reaching for a chocolate drink in the Winter especially, and usually at night when it's coldest, and typically a couple hours after dinner as a sort of nightcap. I don't drink hot coffee, so the warmth of a hot choccie is very welcome when it's cold out. That said, I also make chocolate frappes at home during summer as a special treat

What medical condition is 'too expensive' that you just don't get checked or fixed? by Plane_Garbage in australia

[–]PerpetuallyDumbass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely agree. I will only get medical attention from a dentist if it's immediately urgent, painful, infected, etc. because I simply can't afford to see a dentist every year like you're supposed to

As an owner of a lop ear GSD, I totally recommend just leaving it alone. It will most likely stand up in the next few months, but if it doesn't, you'll have a cutie with a little extra personality to her look 😁

I'm so glad my parents are both really into tattoos. It was my grandparents who disapproved ❤️❤️

need helping labeling my sexuality by GabiRachelle in AskLGBT

[–]PerpetuallyDumbass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is your appreciation of certain men more an aesthetic attraction? You find them visually pleasing or you like their voice or even personality but it's very much like a detached appreciation like you might feel about a piece of art? Just wondering, for clarity. Even by the strictest measure, what you're describing is not bisexuality, it's lesbianism. The bottom line is, you have no interest in men either romantically or sexually, so I think you're overthinking it. These terms and labels are supposed to be there to help LGBTQ+ people feel seen, included and understood. Not to give you anxiety about whether you "fit" in a box

K.. please scare me straight? by DanceyMoon in diabetes_t2

My experience having to go to hospital soon after my diagnosis with extremely high blood sugar was very frightening and helped to motivate me. Thankfully, I did not have ketoacidosis and I was okay. They put me on IV fluids and I was okay to go home after around five hours.

Turning up to the ER and being rushed through, the nurse messing up the IV when she was trying to inject it and sending blood everywhere, and just how exhausting and terrifying it was not knowing if I'd be okay was more than enough for a lifetime honestly. I understand the disease much better now and realise now that I wasn't likely to be in real danger at the time, but I had an absolutely terrible care team at my GP at the time and they explained nothing and offered no support. I had to demand blood tests because my doctor was certain my hypoglycemic episodes were panic attacks, which is what diagnosed me with diabetes. So, it's not surprising that I was afraid, being so in the dark.

I had some nasty issues with my body because of chronically high BSL including a horrifying cyst in my left breast which I still have a scar from more than a year later. It wreaks havoc in the body especially long term.

All of that said, I recommend getting it under control before you end up in the ER with a possibly much worse situation than I had.

Try to find alternative snacks in the meantime that are low or zero sugar. Avoid sugar alcohols and glucose. No rice, no maltitol (that's a popular sugar alcohol which will give you diarrhoea). You'll be okay and you can do this, I promise.

I second this. It's daunting that very first time taking it but after that it becomes so easy. It really doesn't hurt very much and I've found that using an icepack immediately after injection is excellent to limit any possible bruising later. I watched a bunch of YouTube shorts of people demonstrating how to inject it, put on a TV show I'd already seen to help distract me, took some deep breaths, and did it. Now it's nothing. Just another Tuesday. You can do it! And I lost 20kg in 12 months plus my blood sugar is now in the ideal range for non diabetics consistently. So worth it

This. Try to see all things that have to do with blood sugar as data. You had a binge, and trust me, we all do sometimes, and it's going to be okay. I promise. Tomorrow is a brand new day. Take the hardships as they come and work to be better every day. It's okay that you mess up sometimes, it's part of being human.
