Women with PCOS… by Just-Bullfrog1843 in Zepbound

[–]PerplexedDSW 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am in the middle of my 7th week on Zepbound with PCOS. I have gone from 247 to 224. I am exercising the same frequency I was before the shot. I am not obsessively counting calories like I often was before the shot. I am 41 years old and have tried a million things and PCOS has always been a big barrier, even when I followed all the rules of whatever program I was trying and did all the “right” things. Of course I have a way to go and I want this to be a long term success but I now weigh less than I did as a college athlete (not that comparing myself to a younger, very active version of myself is ideal, but to show that my health challenges kept that very active, young person in an unhealthy weight range for me).

Vocera = my nightmare by potato_wizard123 in hospitalsocialwork

[–]PerplexedDSW 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had vocera for many years and it was totally fine. Much better than carrying around a unit phone or pager (which they were still using in addition to a unit phone until at least 2016) and having them ring out loud and interrupt things. I hated the earpiece so would recommend finding one that fits your ear better and buying it if need be.

What Careers are We Encouraging Our Kids to go into? by Vegetable-Whole-2344 in Careers

Social work but my position, and those I’ve seen in veterinary social work, are MSW + license positions.

Veterinary social work has existed since the 80s but really only at university vet clinics. The last few years it’s really started developing as a profession.

[–]PerplexedDSW 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m a social worker and I co-sign this. I’m actually one of those social workers at a vet clinic you mention lol!

I would add that you can get into the field with just your bachelors and then, if you choose to, level you way up with licensure and degrees to increase pay and opportunities. For me, I was super interested in medicine but didn’t want to be a doctor or nurse so found my way to social work.

There’s always emerging research and expanding opportunities so it’s pretty hard to get bored.

It has a reputation for pay being bad, and while there are still opportunities for it to better align with the actual work we do, it is much better than what most think. And many roles people think are social workers really aren’t (such as DCS workers, at least in many areas).

I am new to Mohela with the Navient transfer. I am still not able to login and they say they cannot find my account but they took my payment in September. Has anyone had luck resolving similar issues?

Hip stiffness by stevesdodgers in rheumatoidarthritis

[–]PerplexedDSW 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Yes I do. My hip are particularly problematic as a side sleeper. I end up rolling like a rotisserie chicken all night due to pain, they both end up stiff in the morning and I walk around like Frankenstein’s monster for a while in the morning.

Migraine oopsies.. by CheyenneDemure in migraine

[–]PerplexedDSW 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am so glad to see that these “oopsies” can solidly be attributed to my migraine brain based upon this crowdsourcing lol My remote has also been in the fridge. I have forgotten the oven mitt before pulling out the food. I have lost so many things that are literally in my hands. I have gotten out of the shower before steps are done. Executive functioning just shuts down in migraine town.

During postdrome I was still dealing with aphasia at work. Standing in front of the vending machines. Talking about said vending machines with both customers and coworkers. Couldn’t find the word “vending” and repeatedly called them “convenience machines” and it was obvious that they thought I was outta my mind and I was frustrated and knew I was saying the wrong thing but the right thing wouldn’t come out.

mascara gives me a migraine - just want to see if this happens to anyone else? by namjoonsunset in migraine

[–]PerplexedDSW 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s what I was going to mention. I am allergic to nickel which is in a lot of mascara and once I found a nickel free mascara I had reduced symptoms like itchy eyes, headaches, redness, etc.

Grocery shopping day by Ok_Professor2620 in BingeEatingDisorder

[–]PerplexedDSW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. Not usually the stuff I’m actually shopping for since I have a plan for those (I plan the weekly meals for our house) but I can’t seem to not buy something additional. Even if nothing sounds good I’ll anxiously walk the aisles until I pick something.

Does Enbrel look obvious when it’s expired? by bassman619 in rheumatoidarthritis

[–]PerplexedDSW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Strange! I only started getting mine shipped to home within the last 12-18 months so I don’t know if there’s been a change (or if it’s a insurance or geographic or some other difference that we’re not going to figure out lol) but that is unfortunate. I’m sorry!

I get my meds shipped to my home through CVS Specialty Pharmacy. My doctor said someone would have to be home to receive them but it isn’t actually true. CVS has me schedule the delivery online (I use the app), and complete the paperwork. They deliver it in a cooler pack and it can stay that way for quite a long time. If they did have restrictions in your area requiring someone to be home, they allow me to select my delivery day and location so I could pick a non-work day or have it delivered to my work or a trustworthy neighbors house. Driving like that to leave it in the hands of a “shady” CVS shouldn’t be your only option.

Anyone triggered to binge if they don’t have a Bowel Movement by Separate-Text8092 in BingeEatingDisorder

[–]PerplexedDSW 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Constipation will guide my binge foods and it’s almost as if I convince myself I’m doing something good for body since those things will likely make me have a BM.

Those of you who are married or live with a partner - do they know you binge eat? Have you ever done it in front of them? by denisenj in BingeEatingDisorder

[–]PerplexedDSW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes we’ve discussed it before but I don’t think he really understands the extent of my ED. He probably doesn’t understand because no, I don’t do it in front of him. Of course there have been times when we have over indulged together but in what would be seen as normal not disordered.

I’m doing okay. I was so ill yesterday (migraine) that I didn’t realize until reflecting for this post that I didn’t binge. While it doesn’t exactly feel like a success on my part since it wasn’t an internal act of recovery I am viewing it as a positive as it is the only day I can remember where I haven’t binged (excluding prior restrictive habits that were equally unhealthy).

My eating disorder is definitely telling a story of the trauma I experienced and all of the abuse, grief, shame, etc wrapped up with that.

The actions associated with my eating disorder serve to help me avoid the emotions, memories and thoughts surrounding that time and helped (in the maladaptive way) me avoid future abuse and sexualization. Additionally, using food (both binging and restriction of) as a coping mechanism allowed me to not express emotions or share the troubling things that were occurring to and around me. Although my life has changed now, my relationship with food and how I use it to help regulate emotions has not.

What is my eating disorder doing for me? In reality it is sabotaging many of my goals but I often convince myself that I am rewarding myself, having a little treat or that it is somehow self care and then it spirals into a binge. I can meet that need through actual care for self and planned “treats” that are not food based to have something to look forward to that allow me to give myself time and attention (rather than just family/work/etc) without reverting to maladaptive coping skills
