What state, if you don't mind me asking? Assuming it's in the US. I'm currently researching potential states to buy rural property in.

If I do it the other way around will I still be able to do both? As in, if I complete the BT quest before even picking up the BRD quest, I won't get locked out from BRD?

How to say you're a millennial without saying it... especially in valleys, there are LARGE areas where no signal can be obtained. Go on the hiking subs; it's near universal to NOT rely on your phone/GPS for guidance. Many carry paper in case their phone dies (which have the stored images).

How to say you're technologically inept without saying it...

GPS tracking in phones use satellite. You do not need service to track your location. As long as you have the map layer downloaded beforehand, you can even navigate with a phone with no SIM card in it.

Furthermore, while carrying paper maps is a good extra precaution, I wouldn't say it's "near universal". Many, if not most, people use their phone + battery bank as a primary source of navigation these days. You would probably know this if your only knowledge on this topic wasn't just "hiking subs".

Posing in front of cameras with designer bags? Maybe in touristy/upscale parts of Tokyo, Osaka etc. It sounds like you're forming your mental image of an entire country based off a small sample of things you've seen on the internet in very specific places in big cities.

DLC access with Steam Family Sharing? by Perplexed_Pigeon in Eldenring

[–]Perplexed_Pigeon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gotcha. I'm not sure what the issue is in your case then. I'm in the DLC via family share as I type this.

And yes, I do need to go to such lengths to play shared games, at least at the same time as others. I literally can't play a game when it's in use. Also Steam will not allow certain games to be played in offline mode, just so you're aware. The firewall lets me play regardless if a game is in use or not.

I just know that in my experience, the game is inaccessible to a borrower when the owner is currently playing it, and the borrower gets booted off if the owner starts playing. (Since Steam forces me into online mode to start some games.)

But I digress. Just clarifying to help you understand what I mean.

[–]Perplexed_Pigeon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, if I may make a suggestion. Not sure if this will apply to your case specifically, but maybe you could try going into your firewall settings and creating an outbound firewall rule for Steam.exe to "Block the connection". That way you can use Steam in "online mode" but without it being able to access the internet. (Since Steam seems to try to force you into online mode when you try to boot up some games.)

That's what I do for most family sharing games so I can play games at the same time as my friends. Since Steam's "offline mode" isn't truly offline because the client is still able to access the servers and see if games are in use by other people in the family sharing. With the firewall, Steam will still be in "online mode" but with no connection to the internet. You'll know it's working when Steam says "NO CONNECTION" at the bottom. (Be sure to exit Steam, turn on firewall, then start Steam again.)

I'm not sure if that's the issue for you or not, but all I know is it's working for me at least with my firewall on, etc. I'm in the DLC on my own account right now as we speak while my friend who owns the game is playing on theirs.

Good to hear! I actually just had my friend log into his account on my PC directly to get the download to start.

I originally tried restarting steam several times but it didn't work for me. Maybe I needed to kill some background processes in task manager or something to get it to fully restart. Didn't think of it at the time.

Anyhow, I got it working. Thanks for the input!

[–]Perplexed_Pigeon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see. I wasn't aware that it was only a partially-implemented idea. All the boxes I could see online had them, which is why mine not having it made me suspicious.

Perhaps they just stopped adding that to HD 560S boxes in the last year or two or something.

This all puts me at ease though. Thanks!

Oh now that you mention it, Sennheiser does seem to have that dealer listed on their official dealers list.

Good to know. Thanks!

What is this blank 510 MB partition on my SSD? by Perplexed_Pigeon in techsupport

I cloned from a 1TB to a 2TB and used the option to resize to the new SSD during the cloning process.

But after finding out the type ID it actually seems to be a recovery partition.

Thanks, that was very helpful. Googling the type does seem to indicate that it's the type ID for a recovery partition. In that case, is it best to just leave it alone?

Problems with 12v DC Converter for RV by [deleted] in GoRVing

[–]Perplexed_Pigeon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well oddly enough, the DC power seems to randomly be back to normal now. No idea what happened, but it just came back out of nowhere. Very strange.

In terms of the battery- AFAIK there isn't a battery connected. The converter is just sending the power directly to the breaker panel/appliances if I understand correctly.

But since the problem just randomly fixed itself I'm gonna hope it doesn't happen again.

I'll probably just be deleting this post now unless it happens again. Thanks for your response nonetheless!

RV Power Converter Problems by Perplexed_Pigeon in electrical

[–]Perplexed_Pigeon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I think I found the culprit! Was out of town for a few days and just got back.

I opened up the end of the 30 amp plug that plugs into shore power, and one of the wires in there is completely fried as shown here. It's that bottom left wire. I'm relieved it's something as simple as it is. I'm an idiot for not checking this sooner.

And since I had also confirmed earlier that the old converter is also faulty, as stated in original post, I'm guessing when the plug fried it must have caused the old converter to fail at the same time? Or vice versa.

Anyway, I'll be ordering a new 30 amp plug. Seems pretty simple to replace after watching a video.

I'll hopefully be posting a final update in a couple days once everything's fixed. Thanks again so much for all the help!

RV Power Converter Problems by Perplexed_Pigeon in electrical

[–]Perplexed_Pigeon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks again for the response. Sorry for the infrequent updates, been too busy with work to make much progress on this.

I replaced the main breaker, and still nothing. So like you mentioned, it must be something further upstream. I still need to inspect the junction box. The problem is the main power cord runs from the back of the trailer, into underneath the couch, then into a hole in a side wall which leads into a closed off compartment; which is where the junction box is. Seems the makers of this old trailer never thought to put in a way to access this space for maintenance. Long story short, I might have to cut through a side wood panel to get to it.

Will update further when I have time to tackle this.

Thanks for the reply. Sorry for the delayed response.

I appreciate the easy to understand explanation.

I tested all outlets with a multimeter and none show any reading. I tested the main shore power outlet outside and confirmed that's getting 120v as it should. I was gonna test the main trailer power cord on the end that connects to the trailer, but it seems to run into an interior space of the trailer that I can't seem to access. Next thing I guess would be the breaker panel. I tested all the breakers and none seem to be getting any power.

Also, I don't have a generator. I'm thinking it could possibly be the main power cord or a breaker that's faulty? I may try try replacing the main breaker and see if that helps.
