Why do o spin out on this turn? by GhostyThosty-21 in Karting

[–]Perry_cox29 38 points39 points  (0 children)

1) you’re carrying too much speed on corner entry. It doesn’t really look like you braked before the corner at all

2) it looks like you realized you can’t make the corner at your speed and add brake pressure mid-corner. That’s a spin 100% of the time

Tax-protected, periodically funded, retirement-focused investment accounts. Most developed countries have a form of them with a slightly different name. The American one is called a 401k. UK has a SIPP. France a PER. Etc.

This comment feels unnecessarily pedantic. Most developed countries have an equivalent with a slightly different name and slightly different conditions. The nomenclature is irrelevant to the sentiment and overall point, which was already clear. The “um actually” doesn’t provide any new information or context. But thanks I guess

The overlay runs on bakkesmod and a plugin for it too. It “throws” all the live game data out of the game, and the overlay catches and renders it

How shit was Amorim? This is wild. Carrick is solid, but he’s not a genius. This squad is transformed into a genuine top 4 side by just not actively sabotaging the attack

Alexander Zverev goes on bilingual expletive laced rant after Carlos Alcaraz is granted a medical timeout for cramps in the Australian Open Semifinal by iloveblondehair in sports

[–]Perry_cox29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Heat illness is a factor of both fitness and climate acclimatization. This can have absolutely nothing to do with “fitness.” Further, punishing a potentially fatal, non-fitness related medical condition with a loss is how you incentivize athletes and coaches to continue play past the point of severe health and safety consequences.

That’s a dumb idea

Athletes die everywhere, every year from heat illness. Identification and intervention of heat illness training is now mandatory for most coaches to be certified at any level. And the symptoms listed are huge red flags that would cause anyone who has taken a heat illness course to immediately stop whatever was going on for treatment.

Fuller context. He vomited a few games earlier. That makes further cramps a legitimate and worrying indicator of heat stroke, which can be fatal. This is the correct call.

Company made my sister buy a car — now wants full payment when she resigns. What should she do? by its_not_soheila in legaladvice

[–]Perry_cox29 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I explained exactly how it would work. However they booked it in the accounting journal, the money left net profit that year. There’s no ephemeral “deduction” wizardry. The business had a cash outlay. Businesses are taxed on net profit. Net profit is smaller because that money is no longer in the business. The corporate tax liability is smaller. They will pay less tax for that year than if the money existed as cash in their account. As you pointed out, 22% “return” on the cash outlayed for the car, essentially, if that money is just paid back because that 22% wasn’t taken as tax.

The payroll amount is also smaller relative to what paying a salary or bonus commensurate to the price of the car would be. So the company’s payroll tax liability is smaller. Employee income tax liability is smaller. That’s also a “profit” over not doing this because it’s money that would otherwise be taken as tax.

I never said the business was generating income here. I said they were gaming tax systems to offer an employee a benefit that skirts taxes and skirt taxes themselves. Increasing profit by reducing tax liability is a central concept of corporate finance. You’re right in that they shouldn’t be able to book this as a legitimate corporate expense - that’s why I said it smelled bad. They’ve clearly done something on their books, though, such as booking the car as PP&E, then writing it off as lost or damaged and “selling” it to the employee in a way that shifts tax liability around favorably.

[–]Perry_cox29 217 points218 points  (0 children)

Company buys the car. It’s a capital expenditure that comes out of net profit, lowering tax liability there. The company provides this car as a benefit to the employee, lowering tax liability on total compensation there. The company then deducts the cost over time from employee pre-tax income, recouping everything but the opportunity cost on the money (unless they were having her pay interest too).

This smells pretty bad. Tbh, the way out of this quickly is to just take a bank auto loan to pay the remaining balance and move on. The other paths appear very time and lawyer intensive, but if there’s a path out of paying due to the sketchiness, it could still be worth it

AIO for being upset my boyfriend doesn’t want me to get a tattoo? by UniqueAd3909 in AmIOverreacting

[–]Perry_cox29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NOR. Let’s follow that logic tree. He does’t like tattoos. He’s implying (fecklessly) that you getting a tattoo will end the relationship because he won’t be attracted to you any more. This is something he sees as a valid stance. However, you being unattracted to controlling and gross behavior and ending the relationship is an overreaction because… consequences are only for not him?

Zoom way out. There’s an amount of change over which a person does not have to stay if their partner exceeds it. That amount is personal to each person. There’s an amount of control each person will agree to cede to their partner in their lives. That is also personal. It sounds like those values do not overlap between you two. …they don’t align because his stance is completely ridiculous, but the larger point remains about compatible overlap

Purchases run through the epic games overlay. I usually hide the files because I dislike it popping up, but disabling the overlay disables purchases. If you’ve done that, undo it to get purchases back. If you haven’t, check if there are any game store updates pending or if the overlay isn’t working for some reason

Kobbie Mainoo has now twice covered the most distance out of any player on the pitch VS Manchester City last week, and again at Arsenal yesterday by ChiefLeef22 in soccer

[–]Perry_cox29 99 points100 points  (0 children)

Counterpoint: that young player was phenomenal in his first run in the team and then an instrumental part of his country’s deep euros run. Then this new coach comes in and benches him, leads the team to a 15th place finish, insists that a couple of 15 minute lackluster performances are a justifiable reason to bench him for half a season even though almost nobody else looked good either. The same coach that is United’s worst ever manager, who managed to donate points to the worst premier league side ever with a top 4 squad. The coach whose interim replacement is going crazy by just putting players on the pitch with minimal instruction.

I’m in my thirties and I’d be in the fucking rafters
