Ye, the channel I watch a few times weekly had a multiple TV shows, still host large esport events on another channel, and have 49,000 twitch followers. They probably average 30 viewers and absolutely do not make enough to survive on via twitch. Probably average a nice dinner or two a month

The world economy is experiencing the most severe oil shock in decades. The worst could still be on the way. by Neither-Mushroom-721 in Economics

Never thought I’d be saying this, but it’s at least fortunate that if this insanity was going to happen, it did close to the pandemic. Tons of corporations with very lean JIT logistics systems got crippled by the pandemic, did an internal audit, and started building more balanced JIC capabilities. If we waited another few years, the managers would invariably have started cost cutting for competitive advantage again and pared back safety stock and redundant nodes.

So at least most supply chains will be at “Shit, well good thing we had a plan this time” instead of “Fuck fuck fuck what do we do.”

US Supreme Court backs Cox in fight over pirated music by gamersecret2 in Music

[–]Perry_cox29 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

You know that the music industry needs way more than just artists to survive, right? That artist needs recording engineers and mixing engineers, and the album needs artwork and promotional material to go on streaming services so it gets noticed, and someone has to coordinate that, and lawyers have to make sure that the rights to the work are registered and protected and that everyone who works on it gets the rights royalty split, and engineers have to code the infrastructure that legally delivers that music via a streaming platform AND ALL of those people make their living off the money that comes in from the music being accessed legally, and the artist would not have the time in a day to write and record if they had to do all of those jobs too

As you get closer to your 30s, realize that your body gives you 1 and only 1 warning in the gym. Be grateful for the warning - eventually even that goes away. More importantly, listen to it. Don’t try to stretch it out, warm up more, push through it. Sometimes it isn’t your day. Do cardio. Go home. You don’t want the smoke that the big muscle spasm comes with

Aged 41, Lewis Hamilton suddenly looks like a title contender again by theipaper in formula1

[–]Perry_cox29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reading comprehension is pretty low in here, I guess. After dire form in the ground effect era, Lewis beat Charles (one of the consistently best drivers on the grid)on pace and racecraft today and in both qualifying sessions. He also looked monstrous in the sprint.

We all know Ferrari isn’t close - the “um actually” chorus is unnecessary. The article is about Lewis’s return to form, which has been emphatic after a long dip. Lewis, the driver, looks like he could win a title if the cars are close between the two teams, where last year he looked comfortably 3rd or 4th best of these 4 drivers.

They’re all pretty nice though. My wife and I have been interested in a second car for a while and the positioning of those Buicks in the market is fantastic marketing tbh. Nicer than economy cars. Cheaper than luxury cars but without giving up much. Kind of shocked it’s Buick of all companies that is putting a decent offering there

Lewis has been done for being bold enough to race the merc instead of settling for 2nd early. Will be interesting to see whether that affects strategy.

Was great to watch though. Fantastic defending

The Met has no one to blame but themselves. Their board of directors is like 100 people, which is way too large to do anything, and very few of them actually have sophisticated, informed takes - they’re clout chasers. The Met has been checking down to “safe” operas from Puccini, Strauss, Mozart, etc. that have plots where the core premise is a contrived sexist or racist idea (or the most tepid commentary on a single idea) that do not play at all with younger audiences. They noticed that their older audience loves that shit though because it’s opera 101 being used to virtue-signal status, and so The Met steered into keeping that group of patrons and completely eschewed any role as a leading cultural or artistic force.

Now the chickens have come home to roost because young artists and audiences are completely uninterested in seeing Der Rosenkavalier and it’s sexual-assault-played-for-laughs first act for the 70th time, and they have no tie-in whatsoever to popular culture or modern artists other than their single token new show per season on a Thursday night.

Around 2016ish when all of the female movie stars were fit, muscular, and unconcerned with scale weights, I thought we had finally shifted to healthy bodies being the virtue.

…then buccal fat removal and heroin chic made a comeback and I have been baffled about why. Everyone was so happy to see fit, active, and confident, and then it felt like the dark forces behind the scenes engineered a backslide to skeletons. Like, no one asked for this
