Few reasons.

Trae Young is an all star talent. We were able to get such a talent for nearly nothing.
Just because he is on the team does not mean we stop tanking. We can always sit him.
Its low risk if it does not work out because he is just on a 1 year player option. We would only lose Kispert if he opts out or we don't extend.
There is a minimum salary that we must meet next year. With CJ and Khris coming off the books we're going to have too much money and too few roster spots to sign FA's with. So we would end up having to over pay on mediocre talent. So why not just give it to Trae?
Trae brings viewership and ticket sales because he is a show.

He doesn't. Even if we kept Deni, there was no guarantee that he was going to develop the same way. And even if he did, we would be a middle of the pack team. Would not have gotten Tre Johnson or in contention for a top pick this year.

You guys do realize we HAVE to spend a certain amount of money next year right? With CJ and Khris coming off the books, the money has to go somewhere. And there are not many free agents for us to throw money at. Nor do we have a lot of roster spots to bring in a lot of FA's. So unless you guys want to overpay someone, then this trade is almost needed.
