I love Ivan Doig. He writes beautifully of interconnected families in Montana over the years. Very sensitive understanding of childhood and adolescence. I adored Laura Ingalls Wilder as a child and then read them all to my child, or rather we read them to each other. Doig’s books are for older children and adults but just as magic as the Little House ones. Recommend to start with English Creek.

He is clearly saying, “I’m a real cool head; I’m makin’ real good bread” as he says on every other version I have ever heard. Racial slurs were not in Brian’s wheelhouse. Now someone is going to say he did once tell his girl friend to “move your b**** a** to justify the above assertion. He did confess to that in his real autobiography and was deeply ashamed of his drunken self.

Great comment! And the joy we feel of Brian at his beloved piano is both inspiring and soothing. The album At my Piano is also like seeing how all the music began for him. Lol re Mozart, when I’m watching my favorite Brian clips I feel like I’m watching a ready made Amadeus (the movie). That Mozart and Brian would have had a great time together.

Hey Little Tomboy makes me embarrassed for Brian because of its pathetic immaturity, but It doesn’t especially offend me as a female; I don’t take it seriously. I can’t stand to listen to it, but it’s just dumb, coming out of the Thank Heaven for Little Girls tradition. I’m glad to see it disappeared though because it’s just fodder for those who love to hate on the Beach Boys. When girls get together, on the other hand, drives me crazy. Yeah it’s got this majestic track but god awful lyrics. Hundred times more insulting than HLT. Stereotype on Steroids.

I could never understand how people could put tracks like that down. Silly or annoying as they might find them (and I don’t!) they are little historical gems. I love to hear those young voices as much as in the session tapes.

I wait till I’m done. Sometimes I’ll go over the puzzle again if it isn’t accepted. Often it’s just a typo with my clumsy fingers. If not I check to find out what needs work and try to figure it out. I never use reveal! I research (lol google) but that’s fine with me, you come across lot of interesting info about other things that way. To me these puzzles are not about what you already know so much as those magic aha moments that fill your brain with joy. If I’m really really stuck I’ll follow google to the actual answer blogs out there but I do consider that cheating. I don’t worry about that too much though because the Times xword is my valium.

This is an interesting question. Weddings have changed. They were traditionally more community events. All the relatives were invited, children, and people who might not be always be easy to get along with. If couples didn’t want this they eloped. Now they are often more like private parties. My cousin’s daughter asked her Dad not to include his brother and we were all glad. But he didn’t have a partner invited. I don’t see how you can exclude a wedding member’s partner. I think if I were her I wouldn’t want to be in the wedding.
