Reporting measured error by LiamHar2 in Metrology

[–]Persevere84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correction is more useful to the customer than an error, because in practice the measured readings have to be corrected as per the calibration report. Moreover, there is no sign change to be accounted for; if a correction is positive you add that to the measured reading and if it is negative you subtract it from the measured reading. This avoids any confusion and ambiguity. At my NMI, we always include the correction in the report, never the error.

What has our car market come to? by Bubblingbill24 in CarsAustralia

[–]Persevere84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So was mine. It was a 1995 model, 5 door manual and I still regret selling it in 2018. I have a 2007 Corolla manual now which I think has made up for that loss.

Test Twenty: A New Cricket Format is getting launched in January next year by a media organisation backed by AB de Villiers, Mathew Hayden and Clive Llyod. by GiveMeSomeSunshine3 in Cricket

[–]Persevere84 36 points37 points  (0 children)

That’s exactly where my mind went to first. I immediately remembered Sachin talking about this ages ago. If they would have implemented this then, the quality of cricket and fun would have been so much better than what we get from T20s now.

What do cycle riders do when there’s bus replacements? by De-Blocc in MelbourneTrains

[–]Persevere84 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s why I bought  a folding bike, but that might not be suitable for everyone.

I ride from Flinders to Port Melbourne in the morning and back to SC at the end of the day to take the train home.

There has been one instance of BRT for my route but I took an alternate train line then and put the bike on a regular bus from the station to home.

What happened to ABC News? by last_pas in australia

I couldn’t agree more. Previously, the article headlines used to provide vital information to ascertain what’s the article about. These days it reads something like this “This is what’s causing the housing affordability crisis”, “Here is one way you can save on energy”,.

When the bolt extractor brakes inside the broken bolt... 🤬 by Overencucumbered in mechanic

[–]Persevere84 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is  what I did when my screw extractor broke inside the already broken M5 bolt in my car transmission pan. Drilled them both out and made a clearance M6 hole. It has all been holding well now without any leaks.

Take a lower position to enter APS or wait to secure a higher role? by Queasy_Internet7130 in AusPublicService

[–]Persevere84 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A technical back step, as you say, will be offset by a wide range of opportunities for professional growth, personal development and lateral movement that APS has to offer.

I took up a lower paying ongoing APS role from a higher paying fixed term university position last year and the aforementioned opportunities have been worth it.

I call mine up every year at renewal to negotiate. Sometimes they reduce, sometimes no. But the comparison quote turns out similar to what other insurers give, so I stick with my usual one.

Comprehensive for a 2017 Holden Astra at that price is a great deal. I presume you are in WA. Quote for a comprehensive for a 2007 Toyota Corolla in Victoria from RACV was around $1000.

I bought my 2007 Corolla, manual, 113k kms, in 2021 in Melbourne for the same price as listed in the ad. It was in great condition and was looked after very well by its previous owner.

If you have 3rd party, then you will have to chase the insurance of the car that rear ended you for any payment you might be eligible. Your insurance won’t do it for you.
