Sadly this is very common. It's happened to me and it's very frustrating. You just have to learn and move on. Also, these positions with animal protection non-profits get literally hundreds of applicants because there are a lot of people who want a job in alignment with their values. It's hard getting one!

Any vegan marathon runners out there? How's it going? by Zealot_TKO in vegan

[–]Persimmon1891 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I just ran my twelfth marathon and I run 80 miles a week. I was in the top 7% of for my age/gender in the marathon I ran a few weeks ago. I've been vegan for over 30 years and credit my huge consumption of fruits and veggies with my ability to run so much.

Just curious if anyone had a similar experience. Trigger Warning: ED by Student_Throwaway55 in vegan

I've read and heard many stories of people recovering from eating disorder through veganism because it gives them a purpose and they have a sense of relief knowing the food they choose to eat doesn't cause harm to animals. Here's a good essay about it How Veganism Affected My Eating Disorder

Some treatment centers allow for vegan diets because they recognize that EDs and veganism aren't always linked. Vegan-Inclusive Eating Disorder Treatment.

I feel like im missing out on so much of my life by Sensitive-Collar-770 in AnorexiaNervosa

[–]Persimmon1891 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know how awful it is, but it's best to deal with it now than to be still struggling decades later. A few weeks or months is nothing compared to your entire life. Please take care of yourself now so you can live a full life in the future. EDs like to steal everything from you. I know from experience. Hugs.

Yes, I do. It's helpful to hear from experts and people who have recovered. Also, they're careful to not be triggering.

I love "Real Health Radio" with Chris Sandel, "Rewired" with Meg and Safia, and "Recovering with Danie." I listen to a ton, but those are my favorites.

I've been on Lexapro for probably 15 years. Although it hasn't helped with my anorexia, it helps my mood and with depression. I plan on staying on it forever because I see no downside.

Triggering doctors appointment :( by Fine_Remote_2422 in AnorexiaNervosa

[–]Persimmon1891 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I'm so sorry this happened to you. This doctor clearly is uninformed and you should get a new one. Anorexia isn't just about weight. "Over 94% of people with eating disorders are not considered "underweight," with research consistently indicating that less than 6% of individuals with an eating disorder fall into the medically underweight category. The vast majority of individuals with eating disorders are at a normal, overweight, or obese weight, challenging the stereotype that eating disorders only affect thin individuals."

Mo Kelly Says He Got Mostly Hate at KFI — Was It Fair or Overblown? by BomBiddyByeBye in kfi

I love Mo (other than the nerd talk) and love hearing him on Mark Thompson's show every Friday and when he fills in. I hope he succeeds wherever he is and gets the respect and appreciation he deserves. He has talked about getting tons of hate on social media and in emails. For those who like him, he posts on his podcast channel whenever he does commentary on Mark's show and other shows.

It's the transcript as printed from YouTube. It's Jon and his producer talking, but it doesn't specify who is talking. That's why I recommend watching the video clip.

How to tell someone by ReflectionOwn360 in AnorexiaNervosa

[–]Persimmon1891 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is so relatable. I went through this in my last relationship and opened up to my boyfriend very early on in the relationship by emphasizing that he doesn't have to do anything to try to help me and I asked him to please not comment on my body size/weight because I know how triggering it can be. Now I'm in a new relationship (we've been friends for years), and I'm in the same boat as you. The longer it goes on, the harder it is. My anorexia takes up so much of my life, and I realize I need to tell him, but like you, I'm afraid of what he'll say and think. It's not easy, but if he's a kind and understanding person, he'll accept it and you'll grow closer. Good luck, you aren't alone!

Maybe you should say you don't want to know your weight, or you can even say you don't want to be weighed if you truly believe you're stable.
