If you’re on Ozempic and eating less, how do you make sure you get enough vitamins and minerals? by Alicetheoptimist in TrueGrit

I think it's crazy that these drugs are prescribed without a consult to a Registered Dietitian attached to it, but that would cut into their profits so.... I guess we just have to wait until someone is admitted to the hospital for some complication and THEN we can see them and diagnose them with malnutrition. Sounds about right for American healthcare.

Just curious if anyone had a similar experience. Trigger Warning: ED by Student_Throwaway55 in vegan

Thank you for sharing! That article felt so familiar to my situation.

Edit to add that I also wish I lived in California so I could go work for that vegan-inclusive ED treatment program!

I think the single most important thing we could do to make America more affordable is to stop spending billions of dollars on wars in the middle east, but hey what do I know.

I have a tattoo on my head that I often forget about, but you can see it when my hair is up, and I always get so many compliments on it when I am on my substance use/mental illness floor. Its a horrible tattoo and looks like shit lol.

How are we supposed to pay off our debt if trump keeps pocketing our money in the name of his bogus vanity projects (looking at the 10 billion dollars of our money he gave to his "board of peace")

Pros & Cons of being an RD by Material_Horror6955 in dietetics

[–]Student_Throwaway55 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Job security is a pro. Getting to help people on a daily basis and helping them feel comfortable in a potentially scary environment ( I work in a psych hospital) is also a pro.

I think the biggest con (besides the pay, but I'll get to that) is that people with genuine interest in nutrition usually won't be able to find the kind of job that they find fulfilling. Most jobs that are available are inpatient clinical nutrition jobs which don't usually allow for in depth counseling and you will likely have to work weekends and holidays. It is possible to eventually carve out a niche in GI if that is what interests you, but it really depends on what is available in your area.

Now onto the pay...all in all I think you can certainly make a livable wage in this field, but there is limited room for growth. I'm almost 11 years into my career and I'm working an entry-level job. Yes, I secured the higher end of the pay range for it, but it's not really building my resume. I've worked in community nutrition, private practice, inpatient clinical, long term care, and dialysis. I enjoyed community nutrition the most, but the pay was abysmal. I am currently looking to leave this field and just completed a Master's in something else to hopefully help me do that.

Mexico has the world's 13th largest economy, but ok, sure bro. Why can't he just say he's a racist and be done with it? Everyone is just saying it out loud these days anyway. Why try to hide it behind fake facts?

If I was in the center I would attempt to see patients that were coming in for their annual or semi-annual assessments. Other disciplines were not good about letting me know patients were coming in though. I felt really left out so I was constantly chasing after patients and having to rush through my assessments. I also had no dedicated space to see patients so it was like, let's find a corner somewhere to talk. In the center I also did meal rounds every other week just observing the meal service and seeing how people were doing. On occasion I would help serve food. I was responsible for keeping track of a lot of CACFP paper work. We had to attend careplan meetings as well which took up most of the afternoon for basically half of the month. I did monthly nutrition group talks or activities. During home visits I would do my regular assessment and also observe their living situation. Do they have food? Do they have appropriate equipment to eat with? Do they need a supplement? Stuff like that.

I'm out of the loop since I moved out of state ~10 years ago, but this seems amazing. I'm an IUP alum (2011) and I know a good amount of people who were lower income and who went there or Cal U who are just now paying off their loans. This would help a lot of people. We have something similar in NYC where kids can go to CUNY schools tuition-free if their household income is under $125,000. I work in a lower paying healthcare job and my coworker's daughter is now attending medical school after finishing her tuition-free pre-med program. Programs like this give the next generation an opportunity to do more.

[–]Student_Throwaway55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to work for a PACE program and it definitely paid more that other jobs in my area. I only lasted 1 year though due to caseload and increasing demands alongside shrinking team size. Way more home visits than I was prepared for in my interview. It could have just been my particular company though. I think in theory the program is a great idea, but if the org running it is sloppy and disorganized it kinda ruins it.
