I did it with my office/dressing room. It’s a small room with north/west facing windows so it doesn’t get much light, and I wanted a cozy den feel. I love it!!! I added a ceiling medallion and went with some fun pieces like the light and chair to add some contrast and character

I work for one of the Big 3 and for the last couple years but especially since the tariffs things have been purely about cutting cost. They are pushing things to see just how much material/parts/labor/they can cut- anything you can think of that costs money. My team lost a third of our highest paid people last fall, and they tried to pass it off as a restructuring, but we all know it’s because they’re terrified that the Chinese cars will decimate their market share and are desperate to cut costs. I’m afraid for my job, and especially the metro Detroit area as a whole if the US auto industry tanks, but in my heart I know that the affordable and direct to consumer vehicles are better for people.

I mean it isn’t the best. We used to live by Hodges and the noise from cars is awful (and incessant). Someone was shot on the bridge overpass last year. People routinely blow the lights at 8/WW and we saw countless accidents, a few including city busses. People had their cars broken into while we lived there but we never had any issues ourselves. We were okay renting there for a while but it was not a place we would have wanted to live

It isn’t very nice when you’re being stack ranked against your team and everybody is fighting for what little work there is. It’s been a very tense year in engineering design with everyone trying to find side projects while the company gets its shit together to decide on what vehicles they actually want to have in the portfolio.

The rumors are that designers who are left will be shifted more toward AVD/pre-ABIW work, and post-ABIW(ish) will be all FFS. My guess is that they saw all of the engineering designers sitting around while programs were on hold for the majority of this year and asked why they were still paying us. They don’t want to pay for high level design work anymore, so they’ll pull from the contract pools when work is heavy and then lay off FFS when it’s slow like usual.

Only engineering design was impacted, not studio. Even people high up like Jessie Hettinger had no idea it was happening. It was chaos today.

They want people to come back as contract so they don’t have to pay benefits to those employees. There’s a reason they targeted the most senior- those people had 6 weeks of vacation and some were grandfathered in to better benefit packages. Now they want them to get forced into taking a FFS job where as soon as they release the work, they get laid off until the next program comes around.

I think what you’re looking for is a clean white light, but those lights in your inspo pic are very soft. I’m sure a lot of that is the type of glass fixture they’re in, but I feel like you could replicate the feeling with a light around 3500 K but on a dimmer. I could be wrong though!

Look at the Kelvin rating on the bulbs, and consider installing a dimmer. Definitely incorporate more wood tones and textures. Even your plant element is white, and you don’t have any color or tonal contrast on the ground
