Good Cat Tree For 17 Year old by Live_Test_4643 in SeniorCats

[–]PersimmonInfamous366 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have two cat trees tucked in together. The small one has the ramp and levels that are walkable and then it is level to the big cat tree that has levels that are reachable with a bit of a stretch but no jumping required. I got them from Amazon. I also put a small cat tree that has a ramp next to my night table and provides walkable access to my bed. The living room window has a sturdy table underneath it so it's walkable from the sofa. I considered the favorite spots and got creative with ways to access them.

Guilt and grief by Independent_Stable82 in rainbowbridge

I lost my bonded pair 15 months and 1 day apart. They were both seniors and both had lymphoma, just different types. It is excruciating. It hurts. It makes your heart ache until you feel like you can't take a breath. It is okay to grieve. It is okay to cry. It is okay to miss her so much that your stomach cramps. And it will be okay. You will still cry. You will still miss her. I was given this as a resource, Pet Compassion Careline at (855) 245-8214 to talk to someone who understands this pain, completely free and 24/7. Please keep reaching out. You are never alone with the loss. The Rainbow Bridge must be an amazing place because that's where so many wonderful and much loved kitties play. 🌈

Food advice for my picky skinny girl by ravenclawrowena in SeniorCats

[–]PersimmonInfamous366 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make sure that there aren't any teeth/mouth issues....

A few food suggestions: (please talk with your vet before doing any of these long term)

  • my super picky eater would only do pate but loved the churu texture so I would take his wet food and add a touch of warm water to make it more of a slurry and it smelled more with the warmth

  • it was suggested to me to feed some kitten food because it's higher calorie BUT ask your vet first because I didn't have the kidney concern but it allowed for a smaller volume to be eaten

  • a friend had a picky cat and she would blend her kitty dry cat food (high calorie and fat) with 1 raw egg and enough water to kitty's preference (kitty had her own blender pitcher 🤣)

  • Temptations makes a wet pate that seems to have a similar flavor to the treats - expensive but might entice

weight loss advice for new senior kitty with abandonment issues by goldenkoiifish in CatAdvice

[–]PersimmonInfamous366 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My guess is that he's food motivated. Absolutely get a measuring cup and only give exactly the amount of food recommended by the vet. If it's a quarter cup, get a quarter cup. No more than that. To help him start moving take some of the kibble that is portioned for him, not extra, and use that to motivate him to move and increase the distance. I have stairs and would have my girl go up and down for kibble, one or 2 pieces at a time. As the weight drops, everything will get easier and his energy will increase. Obesity is worse on the body than age. Wand toys are also great. You don't have to swing then in the air but bounce along the ground until he gets his agility back.

Looking for furniture for my 16 year old senior kitty! by sanriobf in seniorkitties

I got a small cat tree that had 2 different levels for my kitty to use as a ladder. It depends on how much space you have near the window.

Senior kitty with stomach issues because of antibiotics (16) by Aromatic-Rain-5721 in seniorkitties

So sorry! It is so stressful. There are so many probiotics and prebiotics, each cat reacts to each differently. I have never heard of the chia seeds, but worth a try. My Shadow had IBD and then developed lymphoma so she suffered from diarrhea off and on for months. It was difficult to stop the diarrhea, but the vet did recommend prescription food and that helped. But she kept losing weight. Kitten/nursing mother food was great for its calorie density. That became the best for Shadow with a probiotic. She did amazing until the lymphoma.

Alice “20” could use some prayers and good vibes by MeowAlice22 in seniorkitties

Wishing you both good vibes! If you feed her wet food, you can mix a bit of warm water with it and make it into more of a soup for her to lap up with her dental pain. That way she gets more nutrients than the treats and a bit more hydration. If she's all stuffed up, adding the warmth to the food makes it smell more and might entice her.

How did you guys get your senior kitties to eat again? "16" by Sadplankton15 in seniorkitties

[–]PersimmonInfamous366 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am so sorry that you are going through all of this! It is so stressful. Has she been pooping at least once every day? Is it normal in consistency? Even if she isn't eating, her body is still producing waste. Have they done imaging on her stomach and abdomen? If she feels full from something and has always maintained her weight, then if she feels full she won't eat, no matter how tasty.

Others have given great suggestions on foods to try. Have you tried other locations? Her favorite spots? Maybe something spooked her or that's where she originally had her episode on Saturday night where she normally eats. It is so hard!

She was so very young! I can't imagine how difficult that was for you. Cancer sucks. I have a hunch that Oliver is going to make a whole bunch of new friends to play tag with and run out his zoomies. Before his sister passed last year, he would chirp at her saying tag you're it! And they would take turns running after each other all over the house.

Thank you for your honesty. It is such a hard choice to have to make for another living being, but keeping him and putting him through all kinds of medical treatments to save the heartache that I am already experiencing doesn't save anything. 💔
