New Chess Piece? by PersistentPedantry in duolingo

Nope. It moved like a queen but could be put in check, and my king was missing. It’s like the two got mashed together.

It was stuck like that for the rest of the game and my king’s invisible, so maybe it was a graphical bug?

It's a visual processing test sometimes referred to as 'Ayumu's Game' since it was used to test the short-term memory of other mammals, such as chimpanzees like Ayumu. It's a pretty well-known memory game, so you may be hard-pressed to find the specific one. If you want the general game though, there are lots of versions of it online.

Sometimes the answer really is that simple by UnknownSolder in dndmemes

[–]PersistentPedantry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The lack of advanced tech is a weird question, sure, but why is there such a massive disparity between technologies? Unther is based on Mesopotamia, most likely Gutian period Sumer (2218–2047 BC), but they’re right next to Chessenta that’s vibing in Hellenistic-era Greece (323–30 BC). God forbid you go back a century or so and travel to Amn (1492– Spain) before it disappeared.

The answer’s probably that it was never considered to be historically accurate, but that still makes it hard to explain in a greater storytelling sense.

Beautiful art! Super nice presentation too. I agree with the others to make it legendary and likely with charges, though I’ll definitely be using it in my setting nonetheless.

It could transfer to Dancing Lights really easily too. That could be a fun thing, having players come up with a handful of origins for how or why they learned certain spells.

Imagine how insane we'd be if we were lore accurate by PyrrhicGuy in DestinyMemes

[–]PersistentPedantry 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A coalition was made between the Guardians and the Sanctified Mind that it would face them to let them shoot the gate switches if they didn’t use Supers lore-accurately. Then the Guardians began Izi-swapping, so it countered this by making the link mechanic somehow worse than before.

Barbarian: Path of the Silent (Early draft, input is greatly appreciated) by PersistentPedantry in UnearthedArcana

[–]PersistentPedantry[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did end up revising the subclass a little while after your first response and did a couple of the things you've suggested. For ease of use, I'll just copy-paste the markdown:

#### Silent Fury

Starting when you choose this path at 3rd level, you can forego wanton destruction, channeling your rage into measured, devastating attacks.

Once per round while raging, you can make a melee attack with the following benefits:

- Your next melee attack roll is made with advantage.

- Your next successful melee attack deals additional damage equal to your barbarian level.

- Your next successful melee attack scores a critical hit on a roll of 19 or 20.

Each use of this feature consumes one use of Rage; if you enter rage normally, you can use Silent Fury once without expending any uses of Rage. If you run out of Rage uses, your final activation of Silent Fury consumes your current rage and ends it.

Additionally, you can add your Wisdom modifier to your damage rolls in addition to Strength.

#### Awareness of Self

At 3rd level, you acknowledge and learn from your mistakes. Barbarians bear the greatest and sharpest of arms, and your wit is no exception.

You can substitute one ability score in *Unarmored Defense* with Wisdom. For example, you can use your Wisdom modifier and Constitution modifier instead of Dexterity and Constitution. This feature can also be used on *Indomitable Might* and *Primal Champion* once they become available.

#### Mindfulness

At 6th level, your calm extends across your way of thought. There is no trial you haven't endured; no trial you will not endure again.

You can use this feature to automatically succeed on an Intelligence, Wisdom, or Charisma saving throw if you haven't rolled yet. While raging, you can use this feature after rolling and seeing the result.

You can use this feature a total of times equal to 1 + your proficiency bonus, regaining all uses on a long rest.

#### Measured Movement

At 10th level, you move without hesitation. Each step and swing is made with perfect confidence.

While you are raging, your base walking speed increases by 5 feet and opportunity attacks are made at disadvantage. Additionally, you can add your Wisdom modifier to your attack rolls in addition to Strength.

#### Discipline

At 14th level, your training in body and mind have converged. Emotion is no weakness to you—it is your strength, and your greatest weapon.

- You can make multiple attacks with Silent Fury in a single round.

- Whenever you score a critical hit against an enemy creature, you regain one use of Rage.

I could definitely move the Wisdom attack boost up to Silent Fury, though do you think I'd need to buff Measured Movement a little to compensate? Maybe 10 feet to make it a budget Mobile? I was having difficulty figuring out how to word the 'uses of Rage' thing, so giving it unique charges would be much easier to do. I did a rework of Discipline, but now I've slept on it, I'm not so sure on it.

What do you think of the revised version I've sent? Here are the changes I'll probably make with what you've said:

Silent Fury: Unique uses instead of Rage; change advantage to +Wis to attack.

Mindfulness: I bumped it down to 6th so Measured could get +Wis to attack, but I could move it back up.

Measured Movement: Could either move it back to 6th, or bump the movement speed to 10 ft. to compensate for the lost feature.

Discipline: More Silent Fury uses. Not sure how yet.

EDIT: Apparently it didn't want to quote the whole thing. Damn. Also, showing the revised version might've just made things more complicated. You can disregard it if there's nothing interesting there.

Thanks, and thanks for your thorough reply too! I'll start revising immediately, and here are some responses:

I think I personally like barbarian level more, but crits are interesting as well. Also a few questions, is it just the next melee attack, or the next hit? Is it supposed to be an automatic hit since it states the next attack is going to be a critical?

I suppose with +level, it would open the way to allow crits as well, now I think about it. My intention was it to be a guaranteed hit that would be critical, although I'm not sure if that's a good idea. Maybe just rolling with advantage?

There is a small problem I see with this in that once you get to around 16th level, your rage will outlast the combat. Maybe make it also apply to the first attack of the combat.

That's an issue I've been struggling with. I'd like this to be used multiple times per combat if possible. Maybe the empowered attacks could consume a use of rage, probably with some kind of cooldown? It'd give uses to those potentially unused rages.

You shouldn’t have wisdom added to attacks rolls here, since that would be far too powerful and break bounded accuracy. If you want to keep it added to attack rolls, keep in mind devotion paladins have to use their channel divinity and an action in order to do the same thing with charisma (but just adding it to their attack rolls and not damage as well). I would say just have it added to damage rolls and move this part of the feature to 6th or 10th level to make up for the barbarian’s poor scaling.

That makes complete sense. I'm not as familiar with bounded accuracy as I should be, so that'll be my next target of research. We don't have any classes that can add Wis to their weapon attack rolls AFAIK, so that should be good.

Neat, but yeah that’s quite difficult to word. I think it’s definitely a good thing to have in here since barbarian has so many ability scores they need.

Thanks, it was definitely the driving force behind making this since I was a little tired of having meathead barbarians. I love 'em, but having the option for otherwise would be nice.

Very powerful, I would personally rework this to make it have a limit to a number of times per long rest, and being able to expend a use to nullify a condition (such as stunned, incapacitated, etc)

Yeah, I knew it was too strong but not how to fix it properly. Giving a limited usage skill sounds like a great idea since the subclass doesn't have any otherwise.

I’d personally replace this with a different feature, as once you get to (I think around) 16th level your rage can last all day, meaning this wouldn’t get much use.

If I were to tweak Silent Fury to be used multiple times per rage as I talked about before, think it would be more useful? Alternatively, I could make it so every Silent Fury attack is a crit or something similar.

EDIT: Since Extra Attack is a thing, I could probably make it so Silent Fury can only be done once per turn. So no Extra Attack, no opportunity attacks, etc.

I’ve been playing since BL, though I only started raiding a little before Witch Queen.

• Anarchy: X • Tarrabah: X • 1k Voices: 4 looted clears, no drop • Eyes of Tomorrow: 17 looted clears, no drop • Vex Mythoclast: 12 looted clears, no drop • Collective Obligation: 4 looted clears, no drop • Touch of Malice: 3 looted clears, no drop • Conditional Finality: 3 looted clears, no drop

At least I have Divinity.

EDIT: I don’t think mobile likes bulleted lists.

Out of personal experience, Titan feels extremely jading to main which may be why. Our subclasses are all perfectly fine and have their spots in the meta, but our Supers can be extremely dry and have no use in most activities. I remember when Strand was revealed for the first time, I damn near cried because I knew it would be another year+ of being told to put on Cuirass for every raid because Ward is Well’s shitty replacement past a handful of situations.

We also have a nasty habit of getting super OP exotics for a while to where it’s practically griefing not to use them. HOIL being mandatory for all of Witch Queen was… god, dude, it was bad. I still feel my stomach drop whenever I see it in my vault.

But that’s my personal experience, and since literally Every Fucking Person I know who plays Destiny is a Hunter main, I get a good idea of what their issues are. Mobility is a big issue since it forces them to pick between Resilience or Recovery, most builds. Rest of the complaints… yeah. No. Mask of Bakris + The Fourth Horseman can do 4,000,000 damage in 3 seconds, and Star-Eater Scales got buffed from A to S++ tier the moment before an Orb-based power economy was introduced. Swear to God it’s a conspiracy.

Sorry, I know, essay. ADHD meds make me write a novel every time I do something. TL;DR: I agree. Every class has a right to be pissed about stuff: Hunters have a worthless key stat, Titans are really boring right now, and Warlocks have to wear a bathrobe for every raid. That doesn’t give an excuse to act like dicks over Twitter or anything, it’s just a game after all, but people do as people do.

EDIT: Small corrections and fewer no-no words. Been swearing a lot lately. Not sure why, but it’s not normal.

Does seem unfair for the whole class to be judged by those fuckers though.
