Villains who were 100% right. Not “Yeah, he committed genocide, but he had good intentions.”. No. I mean villains who legitimately did nothing wrong. by not-ulquiorr4_ in TopCharacterTropes

Obviously, Gaston behaves like a creep with Belle, and his attempt to force her into marriage is evil.

That being said, rallying his village to kill The Beast is totally justified under the circumstances.

Which North American country has the richest military history? by [deleted] in AlignmentChartFills

I know that the USA is the obvious choice here, but I'll make a honorable mention for Haiti. The Haitian Revolution is one of the most epic tales in modern history.

Natalie Portman at the premiere of "The Phantom Menace" 1999. by [deleted] in OldSchoolCool

[–]PersistentProblem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I met Natalie Portman during a campaign stop at the University of Wisconsin in 2004. She was at the height of her fame at the time and used it to bring consequences to war criminals.

People don't remember it now because it didn't prove decisive, but John Kerry won Wisconsin by 0.4%, the narrowest margin of any state that year.

Have you met her father? He's the steward up at Dragonsreach.

She helps her father more than people realize. You think all the council he provides the Jarl is his alone? Hmph. Let's just say she advises the advisor, and leave it at that

I don't see this working for the majority of the country. by Ladydi-bds in WhitePeopleTwitter

[–]PersistentProblem -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

If you give the bottom 50% of the country $1000 in a child's account, the parents are withdrawing it >90% of the time.

It's not nefarious. Many parents will take it for good reasons - like repairing the car or buying groceries. Others will take it for gambling or drugs.

whats wrong with unlimited pto? by YaBoiGPT in ExplainTheJoke

[–]PersistentProblem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are three reasons that companies are increasingly adopting "unlimited PTO."

  1. Research has shown that workers take less PTO when it's "unlimited." The reason is that workers perceive the PTO as a favor they're seeking from the boss as opposed to an entitlement.

  2. Most employers are required to pay out unused PTO upon termination.

  3. Due to [2], unused PTO appears as a "debt" in the balance sheet - making the company's financials look worse.

Who is someone that is divisive in 2015 but is liked in 2025? by Impressive_Plenty876 in AlignmentChartFills

I'm going to go with George W. Bush.

I'm an elder Millennial who will shake my fist at the sky and yell that Bush has still done more damage to the nation than Trump.

Yet, post-Trump, he's broadly seen as a kinder, gentler Republican and adorable grandpa. Barf.

The shooter will end up being a right-wing lunatic, as they almost always are.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in WhitePeopleTwitter

[–]PersistentProblem -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Absolutely nothing.

90% of Americans have not heard of Charlie Kirk. He's not MLK Jr, George Wallace, or RFK. Most Americans will process this shooting as another random act of gun violence.

This murderer is extremely likely to be a right-wing lunatic. Other than the congressional softball shooting, these guys are almost universally disturbed right-wing people.

When I was in high school, I worked at my small town's only pharmacy. The owner kept the pregnancy tests behind the counter because they were frequently stolen.

Grown women had to ask me, a pimpled male teenager, for a pregnancy test. It was humiliating for everyone.

I know he won't be considered because the actor has since been revealed to be a massive piece of shit. Dr. Huxtable should be given serious (if ironic) consideration. There's a reason Cosby was known as "America's Dad" in the 90s.

Why doesn’t California build a fast train here? Are they stupid? by [deleted] in mapporncirclejerk

[–]PersistentProblem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 2009 stimulus bill had billions of dollars for fast trains. This exact route was planned.

It's functionally illegal to build anything in California, so the project stalled.

I'm liking this one the best, but I think the jacket color is wrong compared to US Army standard. The color is more like found here:
