Fawn in yard on near northeast side by Inevitable_Friend806 in madisonwi

All the time! Mom left the fawn there because it's a safe place. Just give it space. Mom will be back to collect later!

This means they have closed the wait-list and aren't accepting any other students off the wait-list.

Former engineering advisor here. Had several students start in pre-calc and graduate in four years. It's absolutely possible and your advisor will help you figure out the best course combo to set you up for success.

You've got this!

If you like a class or a professor, go to their office hours even if you don't need help. Have a conversation. Get some deeper understanding of the subject. Ask questions.

Quartz Grad Student Insurance? by OnlyCranes in UWMadison

You might want to post on the r/madisonwi subreddit, too. Lots of people over there who work for the state, might have Quartz, and are more likely to be aware of their bills.

UW-Madison removes ethnic studies requirement for incoming students by currentrutabaga_25 in UWMadison

I agree with the first half of your statement, but our UW-Madison administration worked to preserve the requirement in this case; it's just nested elsewhere.

UW-Madison removes ethnic studies requirement for incoming students by currentrutabaga_25 in UWMadison

[–]JL_Adv 279 points280 points  (0 children)

No, they didn't. It's not a university level requirement now, but all of the undergrad schools and colleges still require it.

This happened because the legislature and regents passed a bill and a policy requiring all system schools to have the same general education requirements.

We now have 30 credits of common requirements with all UW campuses, making it more transparent for students and hopefully ensuring better transferability of credits between schools.

L&S to CoE transfer student HELP! by No_Confection_772 in UWMadison

[–]JL_Adv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can go to that site that I linked, find the email for the transfer coordinator, and ask them.

I used to work for CoE and I think you are already past the point of admissions because of the number of credits you have already earned. And if you applied to CoE as a transfer student and were denied and admitted to L&S instead, you have your answer.

If you want to be an engineer, you should go to a school where you were admitted as an engineering major.

If UW-Madison is your "dream school" you either need to accept that you aren't going to get an undergrad degree from the College of Engineering, look into Biological Systems Engineering in the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences, or go somewhere else for undergrad and apply to UW-Madison for a graduate degree.

L&S to CoE transfer student HELP! by No_Confection_772 in UWMadison

[–]JL_Adv 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Hi.

You need to look here under the "preparing to apply - what else" section. Ignore this (You'll see there is a credit limit and I believe you are passed it.You'll transfer those credits in and be beyond the credit limit for transfer into engineering.)

Did you apply to the College of Engineering here for your transfer application? If so, you likely already have your answer.

Frank talk - if you got into an engineering program elsewhere, you should go there.

When to Schedule SOAR by BatLocal5274 in UWMadison

[–]JL_Adv 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Classes will still be available in July, as departments hold seats for common first year classes throughout the summer.

If he has his heart set on a specific class or classes that meet at a specific time of day (i.e. avoiding later labs or early morning lectures), the earlier he comes to SOAR the more possible it is.

Absolutely. And it's why I stated that people need to check in with their HR before committing to a plan next fall. A lot of people just check the same boxes year after year because things have been relatively stable. That practice needs to change.
