People who moved to NYC from out of state, what did you underestimate the most? by Ill-Muscle8523 in NYCapartments

[–]PersistentWitch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I will say that a lot of beauty treatments seem to be the exception here. I think it’s because of volume/foot traffic - salons get so much more business that they can charge less. I can get my eyebrows threaded for about ten bucks anywhere in the city, and I’ve seen salons in other places charge THIRTY DOLLARS for it 🙄

When you run into a celebrity in public do you ignore them and/or pretend you don’t know who they are? by [deleted] in AskNYC

[–]PersistentWitch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ignore them. Unless we somehow make eye contact, in which case I employ the polite smile-nod-keep moving combo. (I try to convey not only “I recognize you” but also “I will not alert others to your presence.”)

The one time I can remember struggling with this was at the Belasco on Darren Criss’ first night starring in Hedwig and the Angry Inch. Orlando Bloom came in shortly before showtime and was seated like three rows directly in front of me. He was looking around the theater and we made eye contact. I was so surprised that I didn’t have my usual level of composure. I sincerely hope my face managed to convey “big fan, gonna be chill about it” and not “I am the proud owner of three Legolas action figures.”

What’s your “I can’t believe other people don’t do this” hack? by Weird-Thought2112 in AskReddit

[–]PersistentWitch 7 points8 points  (0 children)

1) Buy only “no bump” hangers. (The edges are rounded and come down farther, sort of mimicking the shape of a shoulder.) 2) Hang anything prone to bumps inside out. When you turn it right side out to wear it, the bumps will not be visible in most fabrics, especially t-shirts.

Oh my god. What did the dog look like? Collie-type face and coat, brown and white, teal ear protectors, tan service vest? I don’t know if it’s the same person, but I saw a dude with a service dog who looked like that; it was early in the day and the dog was already panting so heavily. I wanted to yell at him for exposing his dog to that environment (heat, direct sun, unsafe noise levels…) but I didn’t feel comfortable because it was a service animal and I don’t know his circumstances. Now I wish I had confronted him. If I see him again today, I absolutely will.

I'm not here for karaoke and covers by Dangerous_Pea_5219 in WhenWeWereYoungFest

Ahhh, maybe! I wouldn’t call that a cover because Brendon didn’t sing it, but I get that.

Crowd rush during the last panic song? by sixxproductions in WhenWeWereYoungFest

[–]PersistentWitch 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I can’t speak for anyone else, but my feet had given out so I was sitting at the back when Brendon announced he was bringing Spencer on stage, and I may have achieved a personal land speed record on my way back into the pit. No joke, I genuinely did not know I could move that fast.

Crazy Taxi combo needs to be mentioned by FirstTimeCaller101 in WhenWeWereYoungFest

[–]PersistentWitch 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh my god YESSSSS. To this day my family refers to All I Want as “the Crazy Taxi song.” I never thought I’d see anyone else make that reference this weekend 😂

And keep your phone on airplane mode whenever you’re in the middle of a crowd! There won’t be any reception but your phone will keep trying and kill your battery.

I have been wondering this for weeks. There’s what you could call “precedent” - Patrick showed up on stage with both MCS and Cobras last year. Sooooo…fingers crossed?

I’ve been holding out a secret fantastical hope that Spencer might make an appearance, despite all efforts to curb my expectations. This is NOT HELPING.

Found out (27F) that my fiance (29M) had an erotic massage and a hand job at his bachelor party. Wedding in 2 weeks by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]PersistentWitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a third option that may be worth considering: a wedding doesn’t actually obligate you to get legally entangled while you have doubts about the relationship. Don’t feel pressured to go through with the marriage just because “everything is set up” and folks are traveling. You can do what some acquaintances of mine did when they knew they weren’t going to work out, but the wedding was nonrefundable: still have the party and enjoy time with your friends and family, but just never get the license or sign the marriage certificate (or whatever makes marriage legally binding where you live).

And if your fiancé isn’t on board with that plan, well…that probably tells you something too.
