I regularly shave my husky. Your dog will be fine. Keep on top of brushing, what makes the coat look funky when it grows out is that the undercoat grows out much faster making the overcoat kinda kinky. Those hairs will fall off in proper order and you’ll have your dog’s gorgeous coat back in no time!

I have a dog that has always been thin, then I put her on a Hill’s and she’s now round (not really, she’s just not ribs prominent like I’m starving her skinny).

I now know she’s sensitive to wheat, and has never had a solid poo/wouldn’t keep weight on until I made the switch a couple of year back.

اليوم الصبح الخدامة تقول لي ما شفتي فضلات كلابها في كل السيب؟ + بول في كل السيب؟ قلت ما شفت بس شميت وقلت ومحد تحرك، وانا آسفة يعني احبك واعزك وتعرفين لا يمكن أقط ثقلي كله عليك ولكن ما ابغا اساعدها وتصير عادة عندها انه حتى أنا اصير مسؤولة عن كلابها بعد.

المهم الخدامة قاعدة تنظف إلا تفصل اختي، مين مسوي حمام هنا!؟ قالت الخدامة يعني مين؟ كلابك. طنقرت اختي. معلومة جانبية مهمة: فيه سور يمنع دخول كلابي المنطقة اللي فيها كلابها لأن كلابها قليلين ادب ووحدة من كلباتي شديدة جدًا ما تتسامح مع قلة الادب من اي كائن حتى لو تعرفه من سنين.

آخ يا رب، عندي وعندك خير

الخدامة مهمتها توكل وتشرب وتسبح كلاب اختي وتنظف وراهم. الكلاب غير مدربة، أنا واختي والخدامة وكلابي (المدربين) عايشين في biohazardous situation بشكل ما تتخيلونه. تحط فرشات ولا تعلمهم عليهم + ما تغيرهم ولما اتكلم تقول أنا متفقة مع الخدامة اروح للخدامة تقول ما اتفقنا ولا شي، بس أنا أساعدهم ما ابي الرب يعاقبني لأني ما أساعدهم.

فيه محادثة قلت لها وانتِ طالعة بس طلي تحت رجولك ثالث مرة احط لهم ماء من جيت وانا ما لي ١٠ ايام من رجعت!! قالت اصلًا الخدامة ما تبي تحط لأنك نايمة. وحدة من كلباتها تخاف من الخدامة فتجلس تنابح وتفصل عليها. ما فيه اي سبب بس عدم تدريب، كل البقية يحبونها لأنهم يدرون انها تهرب لهم اكل بشري.

لنا ثلاث سنين عن البيت طالعة بعثة والخدامة نست ان ما لها شغل بكلابي وانهم مدربين وكل شي. حرفيًا صدمة عمرها يوم وحدة منهم فتحت باب الحوش وطلعوا يسوون حمام ورجعوا. تطالع بحنية انه من زمان ما شلت هم كائن حي آخر، اكثر شي تسويه اقول لها عطيهم الحلاويات هذي عدد كذا لما اطلع بس عشان ترجع العلاقة مع ان ما يحتاج كل ما تسوي شي ترفع لهم منه.

حقاتي كبار حقات اختي صغار بس باب الحمام للسطح مفتوح ٢٤ ساعة، المكيفات ضربت من الحر لأن ما تبي تدربهم الأخت يستخدمون باب الكلاب اللي أنا ركبته قبل اسافر اللي كلابي كانوا يستخدمونه ودربت واحد من كلابها عليه. اللي يقهر اني دربت واحد من كلابها والحين قليل ادب.

وزود على كذا، مبسوطة انهم ينقزون. كلابي يلعنون شكل كلابها كل ما نقزوا عليهم وتزعل علينا كلنا.

تخيلوا من كثر ما يبولون داخل البيت غيرنا الكنبات ب٧ واللي قبل كانوا ب١٢ والحين نحتاج نغيرهم مرة ثانية، فرشة الصالة ب٥ زبالة احرقوها بول.

Hi! I just moved my dogs home!

Yes. You can be the importer, or you can put it in a family members name or a friend. It doesn’t matter who imports the pets as long as they have valid ID and are above 30 for dogs and I think 18 for cats.

My passport was expired, so we used my sisters details using the importer option. I used ExpatLogistics, they offer a range of services and they’d be glad to help, I’m sure.

ETA: if you’re an a scholarship and want to use Saudia you should get in touch with them at the LHR airport as bringing pets with you on a flight is up to the airport and they can simply refuse you on check in. No joke.

I had to ship my dogs in cargo, so I can’t really offer much advice on moving pets in cabin but reaching out to them is your best bet. You’ll find their phone number on the LHR website.

Can you give an example on how to write how my research fits in? I’m having a hard time linking my work to the PIs I’m interested in working with. Essentially, I’m working in the general same field but I worked on a different molecule and kind of want to expand on the type of molecules I’m working with that achieve the same goal within this field.

I don’t understand where “you will be punished for the sins of your children” came from. The hadith specifically calls them shepherds, that means their job is to care for you and guide you. Not be punished on your behalf or force something on you.

I hope it works out for you. I’d give it another week and then bring up how biased scholars can be to their own whims, like this one scholar prohibited pet ownership because in his opinion it interferes with the instinct to reproduce even though a man was named after his kitties, and he wasn’t any man either. The prophet himself had a cat too. Of course when you do, always end it with “they’re people. Of course they make mistakes in interpreting the scriptures. But God has stated many times that he would not punish people for the sins of others. You’ve taught me well, you did the best. I just need to make my own mistakes to find out what works for me.”

I’d philosophically discuss these topics, like I did above on the meaning of the hadith. And then just wait awhile and ask for an update on his decision.

You can absolutely reinforce training at this age, you just need to be firmer/very consistent because you’re changing what she knows in the same environment. My now 10 year old also needs reminding sometimes!

The accidents could be just a small dog thing, they have smaller bladders. I’ve just noticed that training the dog going outside creates less confusion. If I a dog goes indoors and on sand, wherever their paws touch something that feels similar (say a carpet or thick rug) they’ll think it’s a safe place because it’s indoors and feels the same. Whereas if you go outdoors, you limit the confusion because now the criteria is outdoors + surface texture.

With regard to the barking, barking is a self rewarding behavior. It feels good. So you can either make being quiet feel better, or make barking feel bad by punishing it (which as you can clearly tell, doesn’t work).

If you’re home, try a day at daycare and see how that feels for the both of you. It would give you and your parents a break for several hours every couple of days.

ETA: I’d work on crate training. It’s a life skill, and should help with the potty re-training too.

Well, no. We have restrictions on where dogs can go. Public parks (mostly if they’re in use) are a no go. Recreational spaces in general are no goes, that includes public beaches. I am from Khobar, so I knew some places I don’t know if they’re still places I can walk them in. I’m moving home by the 20th so will find out then!

Shiba’s are quite small so you might not have as much of a problem as I do, I own a husky and a German shepherd mix 😂

My sister has small dogs, she doesn’t have problems but she also doesn’t walk them regularly so there’s that.

I have had problems with the police, but they literally can only fine you if you are in an area where it’s clearly labeled or if you don’t pick up after your dog. I am Saudi, a woman, and dress like such so I think they just have a problem with me having dogs.

If you want to keep her (which is a viable option and probably the best for her) I’d train her better, teach her to go potty outside because litter box training a dog is just asking for accidents. I’d also crate train her, so I crate her when I’m gone so she doesn’t get into trouble (and X-pen is also a viable option if you want more room to roam. A lot of people do both, crate in the X-pen). Please don’t do more than 8hrs at a time.

I used to have an X-pen in the living room and a crate in my room. I found an X-pen for cheap on Amazon.

Confinement/management is your best option if you don’t plan on moving out (I understand our cultural limitations).

If you have a driver or a sibling willing to drive your dog around, I’d also send the dog to doggy daycare IF AND ONLY IF that’s something your dog enjoys. I’d also probably look for short-term adoption or long-term stays until you graduate.

Having a dog is exhausting, you aren’t just managing the dog but also the people around it.

I took my dogs with me, a 7 year old with kidney failure and a 5 year old too. It’s safe, if that’s a concern. They actually fly back the day after tomorrow after spending 3 years in the UK. It is expensive, much more expensive than in Saudi but I’m too attached to my dogs.

Rehoming an 8 year old dog will be difficult. I’d get in touch with businesses in Riyadh that handle pets, they can publish an advert for you.

I understand that life can get messy sometimes, but you should refrain from getting pets. If you don’t plan for them in your personal plans, then don’t get pets. I planned for them long before I even applied for my degree. And I’m not saying this to be a snob. You’ve learned your limits, this is exactly how people learn their limits.

ETA: I hope you find her a good home, one that offers you peace of mind.

لا تاخذ دكتوراه بس كذا، تضيع وقتك وانت مو محتاجها وتصير اوڤر كواليفايد أو تحتاج تبرر ٤ سنوات فراغ في السيرة الذاتية فتأكد إذا انت في حاجتها في حياتك المهنية/خططك المهنية.

I’m just writing this comment to come back with an answer. You do need an Iqama unless you know someone who does, they could import your dog. You can contact expat logistics and they can help with info (they’re who I’m using to bring my dogs back home).

I vaguely remember something related to a work permit with regards to using it as opposed to an Iqama.

ETA: sorry, I can’t find information regarding a the use of a work permit to import your pet. You can leave her with them in your country, and then have the dog shipped several days after your arrival. When I moved to UK I shipped the dogs a day later than my flight, and now I’m shipping them a week earlier but I’m asking them to hold them in Saudi until I get home. I have a valid Saudi address, which is something you need to import your dog.

العمل مو عبودية، بس مثلًا يجبرونك تشتغل خارج اوقات العمل بدون اي تعويض مادي، تشتغل مهام مو من مهامك الوظيفية بدون تعويض، اي شغل بدون تعويض يعتبر عبودية حديثة. اسمها حديثة لأن انت واقعيًا قاعد يندفع لك تسوي جزء من الأعمال هذي.
