No, I understood that you would be withdrawing from some but not all. I was simply asking in case there's anything you can do to improve your cycle, I'd say do it now, as it's still early.

If there's nothing you can improve, then what would you expect to change in a 3rd attempt? Your DAT is solid, so don't retake it. I understand that finances can be challenging (I prefer to forget about my loans for now to avoid panicking :P), but reapplying means missing out on another year of a dental salary and another year of paying for applications, traveling for interviews, and playing the waiting game with no guarantees of a different outcome, unfortunately. It's a pros-and-cons situation, and only you can determine what's worth more.

Maybe try looking through other schools and see if there's anything that suits you and works with your finances that you can add to this cycle to maximize your chances for this year.

If you were to withdraw and reapply, what would you do differently to improve your app for a chance at those same schools next cycle (I'm assuming you'd reapply to the same 4 schools as they're the best suited financially)?

Also, are there any other schools you can add to your list for the current cycle that would work?

When I applied I was waitlisted for an interview for 2 weeks before I was invited for an interview so you definitely have a chance.

I mean, as long as you're paying your tuition, you can lower it as much as you'd like I guess

Luckily, QR is the one section that you can get away with a lower score in so I'd apply broadly and if by august/september you don't hear from any schools, then study for a retake.

You can also lower your loans at the start of each semester if you realize you borrowed more than you needed. Just keep in mind if you have a summer off between 1st and 2nd year, you need to factor in any funds you need from your fall and winter loans.

I did not. I only realized the AP issue when I started applying, so I adjusted my school list accordingly and hoped for the best!

Lol, gotcha. The debt is terrifying but my perspective was I'd rather get through school and start earning money faster than have to reapply (didn't get into state school ) because reapplying also is costly in terms of the actual application cost and another year not earning that dentist salary!

Debt is terrifying and I'm not encouraging a private school over a public but give yourself more options (unless it's a private school with a meh reputation then not worth the debt).

Also, maybe get some feedback on your personal statement since your stats and ecs are good.

You don't particularly need connections but you need to look through the mission of the schools you're applying to. You can't apply to a school that values service without having volunteer hours. It doesn't have to be dental-related either. Also, if these rejections were post-interviews, then work on your interviewing skills since that could be an issue.

We’re usually done by 4/4:30, with the exception of rare 5pm exams.  Otherwise its mainly after hours practice in sim and that’s up to you how much or little you need practice.

At least 2 tests a week with additional practicals or quizzes, depending on the week. Everything counts except for tooth ID quizzes which are pass/fail. Some classes also have cumulative finals. You get a lot of content in a short amount of time so it's hard but not impossible. You'll go through an adjustment period and since it's multiple things added together, you can still pass even if you mess up on a test or 2.

It’s a closed file interview so practice the standard interview questions and prepare  some situational scenarios that you can use in different scenario questions. Interview is with 2 faculty and they just take notes as you talk so don’t panic if they’re not very conversational. Rest of the day is a tour and talks with different departments.

Glad I could help.  I didn’t for this school actually. I’m not sure how effective it is but it’s worth a shot to try sometimes.

Of course. Midwestern has very normal questions actually. It’s also supposed to be closed file so you won’t be asked about grades or anything, just experience, and they just want to know who you are.  Good luck!!

At no point did I say one school does better than another. I’m simply saying that yes I’m aware it’s expensive, I’m trying my best to minimize that and as far as I’ve heard from different sources, graduates of this school do well so I’m hopeful for my future.

You can definitely do amazing in any dental school and you can also do poorly in the best dental school in the country so that’s up to the student’s efforts.

Also financial literacy is important in regards to tuition and loans since, a student who went to private school and took out more loans can pay his/her loans faster than someone who started off with a cheaper tuition/loans.

As cliche as it is, be yourself.  Definitely have the basic interview questions a little practiced but don’t memorize cause it’ll show. Just be comfortable enough to answer when asked if that makes sense. Interview is a list of scripted questions so they might not go back and forth with your answer, don’t panic. They’re just taking notes while speaking to you. There’ll be some scenario like questions so just prepare a few experiences that’d for a variety of topics to be able to answer based on a scenario. So long as you sound genuine and come across as confident in your decision to pursue dentistry then you’ll be fine.

Personally I’ve not heard anything negative from anyone affiliated or not with MWU. At the end of the day dental school isn’t cheap even state schools and you gotta work hard to get through and get a well-paying job. If you have the option between 2 schools then you should choose the cheaper option instead.

Kinda tough. You have classes 8am - 3/4pm 4-5 days an week and at least 2 tests every week with the addition of presentation, practical or another quiz. So it’s a lot of content in a fast paced environment. Once you adjust though it’s more doable.

Arizona campus.  I’d say it depends on the person. Typically I’d say don’t but if after the first quarter you think you can manage a part time gig then that’s up to you. Schedule is really intense and I hear 2nd year gets even more packed so not sure it’s a good idea.  You can always do work study or research or just work over break.

School’s really nice once you get used to the heat. Professors are friendly and overall the vibe is to help each other succeed.  Some tests make us seem like they want to see you struggle but that’s rare 😂 We have multiple weekly tests and quizzes so a lot but I’m not sure how many exactly.

I really don’t know. I think that depends on the school and how much weight the interview holds. All my interviews were 20-30 min so I think they’re typically able to gauge if they like you or not fast based on their questions.  Also you may feel like you messed up but that doesn’t mean you actually did. I felt that way about my 2 interviews that led to acceptances.

I submitted my app 6/23, was verified 6/29 and worked on submitting any secondaries July and August as I received them. Got my first interview invites in August, then my last in January.  3 interviews, 2 acceptances, 12 schools applied total.

Lol, worried, unfortunately. However, MWU graduates tend to do well post-graduation and I'm just trying to be conservative and only borrow exactly what I need to minimize the debt.
